After Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, you'll watch the 3 Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel movies. Fate Stay Night originally was a visual novel with 3 alternate routes, the Fate Route, Unlimited Blade Works Route, and the Heaven's Feel Route. The 3 routes, while all alternate timelines, were unlocked and played in that order as each route reveals different information or focuses more on certain characters in such a way that expects you to already have information or preconceived notions towards characters and events from the previous routes. Unfortunately, only the 2nd and 3rd routes (Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel) have good UFOtable adaptations. The Fate route was adapted by Studio Dean years ago and it was not a great adaptation at the time, nor has it aged well. Most people don't recommend watching it as it can be tough to sit through since Shirou's character is portrayed quite poorly among many other issues, but if you're a die hard Fate fan then it does exist if it's something you're interested in, though I would not go into it with very high expectations. This is one of the reasons why there is such a big divide on whether to watch Fate Stay Night or Fate Zero first in terms of the anime. The Fate route of Fate Stay Night focuses the most on Saber and generally serves as the basic introduction to Fate and it's core characters, but since no one recommends the poor Fate Route adaptation, Fate Zero kind of acts as the placeholder for it, as Fate Zero will also give you some of the same basic information for Saber that you would normally get from the Fate Route. The problem is that Fate Zero overplays its hand since it is a prequel to all 3 routes. As such, it gives too much information and spoils a lot of the mystery elements of Fate Stay Night for all 3 routes, though not all of the mysteries. If you watch Fate Zero first, you'll go into Fate Stay Night with a lot more information than you normally would have which makes a completely different viewing experience. As an example, even something as simple as the familial relation between Rin and Sakura as sisters would normally be unknown for a considerable amount of time without the knowledge from Zero, which can add completely different context for some of Rin's actions in particular. If you watch Unlimited Bladeworks before Fate Zero, you can still get by without the Fate Route of Fate Stay night, but their is certainly some missing context to some events or scenes.
your chat seems to confuse stay night and unlimited blade works, first route would be stay night, then second route would be unlimited blade works and final route would be heavens feel
12:45 LoL the chat was comparing Shinji from Eva to this Shinji. I wonder if people know that Nasu really hated Shinji in Evangelion although he really liked the series. So he made a character called Shinji in his own story but made him the most unlikeable character ever.
I mean I respect the guy even more knowing that, I could not stand Eva because of shinji. I’m not saying it’s a bad show, but damn it feels like his arc is meaningless and it ruins the story for me.
Basically Fate/Stay Night is adapted from a visual novel. In the visual novel, when Saber attack Archer, you get a choice to stop her using a command spell or not. If you didn't, you go into the Fate rout, which is Saber's route. But if you did stop her, you go into Unlimited Blade Works route, which is Rin's route. And there's Heaven's Feel, is Sakura's route. Basically Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel are what if scenarios of each other.
IIRC, you got that choice only after finishing Fate route) And after UBW you get additional choice (when Taiga said that Sakura left early I believe) to check Sakura`s house that initiates HF
Interesting thing is that, when playing for the first time, you always start with the Fate route, and you actually don´t get the choice. Only when playing the second time you can choose to stop Saber. It´s one of the big hints that things are going to be different in this route. And I suppose calling it a "what if?" isn´t wrong, but it´s really an alternate universe. All that happens is canon, one way or another. (Also of note is that Zero most likely isn´t 100% in the same universe as any of the 3 routes, just very close. It´s its own "what if" retelling of the past. We simply don´t know what the differences might or might not be.)
@@johnyshadow F/Sn is built that way that you using your knowledge and understanding from previous route for next one. Not to mention that even routes are different the main themes are still the same, we are just expanding them and going deeper.
@@BekindBekbek Totally. This first choice is basically "Hmm, Archer was pretty useless in the last route, because he was badly hurt by Saber. So, let´s try stopping Saber." (Which is why I always think it´s sad that people start with UBW and skip the Fate route, even if that adaptation was a bit of a mess.) PS: I´m exaggerating about Archer. He still did a good job, just not UBW level.
I like how Luke gives attention some details. Like pendulum one. This one I noticed only after rewatching UBW which IS HUGE for plot in future and he is noticing it right away. We found right lad to react to this franchise lol. By the way, Shirou's teacher is also like adopted older sister for him. She is a daughter of landlord who was friends with Kiritsugu. She grew up with Shirou and was always hanging out with Kiritsugu. I'm telling it because this details are not presented directly in anime and it's not like it is spoilery. Hope it helps you to not think any sus ideas about teacher's and Shirou's relationship lol. Also, as you noticed Shirou has some skills in fencing(he had fence moment with his teacher and dodged Lancer's attack), teacher was the one who taught basics to Shirou how to use sword. If you remember the start of the episode Shirou was doing push ups in dojo at his own home. That is the room for traditional Japanese fencing. I also don't know whether you did gave attention to this or not but Shirou is also good with bow. He quit archery club as it was implied by various characters both in episode 0 and 1
IIRC, Taiga (the teacher) is also currently Shirou's legal guardian. Took over that role after Kiritsugu passed away. edit: oh and also she comes from a yakuza family, hence the "sent one of my guys with her" line.
The reason fate zero is so different to the Stay Night series it's because Zero is a prequel made by a different author, and, it's not canon, it adapts some things told by the original author in the main novel but with a lot of liberties... The reason Zero is considered canon it's because it forms part of the multiverse of nasu thanks to the Fate Grand Order game, but it's not the real events that occurred in the stay night timeline
I noticed people seem to be confused on the fate stuff. We got Fate Zero, the mid 2000 fate stay/night series, which we seem to be skipping, people like to ignore this one. Unlimited blade works which we are watching now which is definitly more modern. Then we have the Fate stay/night heavens feel movies. after zero the 3 different timelines all have a different "Main girl".
To explain the "senpai" word you asked about: It refers to one's senior, in the sense of "upperclassman" or "someone who has been employed at the same company for longer" or "someone who's gone to the same dojo for longer" or "someone who has practiced a craft for longer" or such. If you watch Hololive clips, you'll hear a lot of them refer to earlier gen members as senpai. The counterpart to senpai is kōhai, who then is the "junior" in the relationship. Kōhai isn't used as an honorific or name replacement nearly as much as senpai though, and the kōhai of the senpai-kōhai relationship is usually referred to by name (often surname in a more formal setting like a workplace or a dojo, but first name is also possible if the two are personally close - like you can see Shirou calling Sakura by name here).
The main story routes are, Fate/Stay Night, Unlimited Bladeworks, and Heaven's Feel. Fate Zero is like the prologue story written after the main story was released so it kinda acts as a filler for the world and other characters (like kiritsugu for example). Honestly, even with the reputation of the first Fate/Stay night, i highly recommend you watch it if you don't wanna read the VN. Even though it was poorly animated, it's still not that bad, it also has great music, and VA's did a good job and lastly, it's the only adaptation of the Saber route which is unfortunate but i still enjoyed watching it back then.
The first route isn't called fate stay night. That's just the name of the first anime. Don't make it confusing. The routes are fate, unlimited blade works and heavens feel. The vn itself is called fate stay night
"we know she's worm girl" was zero watched before this? if so, technically it is chronological order, but would release order not be the intended viewing?
When this was airing, and the 2nd season was approaching, I went to SakuraCon in Seattle, WA and they showed us the first 3 episodes of season 2 BEFORE Japan!
One thing I ABSOLUTELY love about Fate is its uniqueness in designing the concept of magecraft/magic. Magecraft in fate is intricate and unique like Shirou’s ability to understand, strengthen the structure of objects(without spoiling too much), Rin’s specialty is to transform her mana into different forms - hence able to transfer/store mana in gems for different uses. It’s very original and unique unlike your generic magic tropes of throwing fire, wind, earth, water, lightning around like in other shows. Bear in mind that magic isn’t even the MAIN SPOTLIGHT of the show, the core concept of fate is a battle royale between historical figures (servants). And to think Nasu came up with this complex and sophisticated magical fantasy world building for a 18+ H game really put a lot of creators to shame. Another show that has really unique design for magic is the Toaru series - A certain magical index, A certain scientific railgun, A certain scientific accelerators.
When you play the Visual Novel you follow different routes based on your choices. Fate Stay Night is Saber's Route Unlimited Bladeworks is Rin's Route Heaven's Feel is Sakura's Route They all diverge after Saber being summoned, until here they are all the same.
Everyone keeps calling Sakura worm girl, sad how people are not aware of the show and story. This is canon to reg Fate/Stay Night series. The circumstances on everyone is diff here. Look at who gets killed, who gets picked as mages and everything. It's different than reg series. Next thing we know everyone will think illiya series stuff will coincide with this story lol.
The problem with zero is that everything in ufotables fsn just becomes an extension of zero not their own characters. So shirou becomes kiritsugus son. Illya becomes iris daughter, Sakura becomes worm girl and is more known related to kariya than herself. And Rin is super tsundere who's dad got killed
Fate zero saber is so different to stay night, in stay night she fights 2 high spec servants deflects an attack that rewrited causality to always kill and all of that while having a low mana supply, meanwhile in zero, only saber and gil are high specs and gets hit by a normal attack while having kiritsugu's good mana supply and 0 reason to conceal her identity
yeah, Fate/StayNight Saber it's like playing AAA games using a laptop with 20% battery remaining in high performance mode, while Fate/Zero Saber it's like playing normal games using a laptop with 100% battery but uses battery efficient mode. (I know my comparison is quite strange 😅)
I think there is a missunderstanding there is fate zero then fate/stay night (old anime, not by ufotable, the "basic" fate/stay night experience) fate/stay night Unlimited blade works (you are here) and fate/stay night heaven's feel (three movies) the reason it's like this is because fate/stay night is a visual novel and different choices lead to different routes and endings.
So, regarding a few of your questions during the episode: 1 - Emiya is his surname (which he got from Kiritsugu when he was adopted), while Shirou is his name, much like Kiritsugu was "Emiya Kiritsugu" (hence why Saber reacted to his name). 2 - Taiga became Shirou's legal guardian (no, the following is NOT a spoiler, the show alredy made it quite obvious) after Kiritsugu died a premature death (probably due to all that grail mud from the end of F/Zero acting as turbo nuclear radiation on his body), iirc technically she owns the house until he comes of age 3 - Regarding lancer - What Saber called him (Ireland's Child of Light) is his "title", rather, a nickname. If you google it his actual name comes up, so if you are curious about the historical character/legend, feel free to google! 4 - Regarding the routes: There are three routes in Fate/Stay Night: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. Fate HAS an anime adaptation from *2006* by Studio Deen but it's kinda... ass. Not even talking about animation, but they really fucked up the story from the mid point afterwards. If you are curious about the VN, feel free to read Fate there if you want to, more on that later The next route is UBW - The one you are watching And the third one is Heaven's Feel, the movie trilogy They all have the same starting point and branch from there. 5 - Regarding the visual novel: It first started as an Eroge... aka a game with porn in it. HOWEVER once the series got popular they released versions without the porn, with voice acting from the anime VAs, improved soundtracks, sfx, etc. You can find them quite easily online fan-translated (no official translation, like, AT ALL.) But they did a stellar job I think that's all for now?
@@BekindBekbek well, if we are being truly technical he is in the care of her family, who are the ones who sold Kiritsugu the house. In the original material they actually mention that Taiga’s dad runs a Yakuza clan, treats Shirou as his grandson and handled Kiritsugu’s burial, and handles all his taxes. The anime can’t exactly tell you all that without adding more content and it’s really superfluous to the story beyond “Taiga eats there because her family are Shirou’s guardians”.
UBW is not meant to be first unlike people say, as it is the 2nd route of Fate/Stay Night, it was written assuming you have all the knowledge of completing the first route of the visual novel Ufotable have done their best to adapt it to work as a first viewing or a sequel to Fate/Zero, but some things still feel a little off and confusing either way, but thats just due to the story itself not being suited as an entry point. The Visual Novel version of UBW skips over information and scenes or mildly covers them as it knows all that has been established in the previous route. Unfortunately the anime suffers a bit, but its still very good. Having the knowledge of how the Fate Universe works from Fate/Zero imo is the best way to go into this anime as it fills in a few gaps which the Fate Route would have done
From my understanding of the Fate series, the visual novel of course came first which means the canon main stories are the Fate, UBW, and Heaven's Feel routes. The game is made by the developers of the series while Zero which came later is the prequel novel made by a different writer although under the guidance of the game's creator himself. Just saying that since it's a prequel that was made later by someone else, some information probably won't completely match as they had to elaborate what happened in the previous grail war based only on the backstories/info given from the original VN. So if there're things that seem weird here cause of what you know about Zero, the reason is maybe that.
@@johnyshadow there will be tons of people literally Screaming how bad it is and demanding to drop it, even if most of them never saw it. They are just follow trend. I tried to argue with some of them, it`s pointless. Unfortunately I saw that more than once on smaller channels. And let`s be honest it`s not the anime you`ll recommend to anyone and it`s not best way to start series (Fate in general of just FSN) for most of the people.
@@BekindBekbek It´s the way I started (if you don´t count amv/songs). And it´s the starting point I´d recommend for anyone interested in actually following through to the end with the Fate series. (the 3 Stay night routes plus Zero, at least.) As for the other thing, different experience I guess. The few reactions I did watch, comments were usually positive/impressed they actually started with the 2006 version (But I´m really not an expert on the matter.)
senpai often refers to teacher....but it means someone who has walked the path before me....kinda like wisdom with age and has been through it already....
Senpai literally mean seniors, and Kouhai means juniors. It is a big thing in Japan and Korea where people must respect the ones who come before them, age wise or experience wise. Sensei is teacher. Totally different thing.
Miyuverse Kiritsugu taught Shirou all of his majic. IIlyaverse Kiritsugu and Iri eliminated the Fate/Zero holy grail war, spent most of the time off stopping any other grail wars from happening. Somehow Illyaverse Shirou still ended up being adopted into the Emiya family despite the fire not happening
Of cause this is good at introducing characters as this was stil from the time when you were supposed to f everyone. Wouldn't have gone this far if with that premise it's not good at introducing characters
Fate Stay Night (FSN) just have charms about them that makes me prefer them over Zero, they have various atmosphere to them. When I watch Stay Night for the first time I didn't like it because I was a kid. And like Kiritsugu more (I like anti-hero kind like of a character and still is). But when I read and understand more about FSN, I really really begin to love it, I respect Shirou more, he is my top MC ever, he has charms and his character is huge but deeply concealed. He seems like a transparent person that everyone can figure out. But when I learns more about him, when I try to understand him with open heart and mind because there's no way that Nasu choose to created Shirou to be the MC to be a transparent character while he can create many great characters. Then I got to FGO and play FSN VN and I can say Shirou is my greatest MC and I have seen many anime. This is a just a weeb ramblings, I just want to say he is my inspirations. It seems childish but I once dream to become a lawyer because of him (I want to do good too to save someone too, to continue contributing a justice to society) but.. I don't think that I will be a good lawyer (maybe I will become blind to the money and popularity), in the end I pursue in studying accounting still searching for the goals in life.
The nerd in me felt compelled to give exposition about Lancer, especially when I’m living in Ireland. Just to give context to the show as not many people are familiar with Lancer like Alexander the Great or King Arthur, I try to limit spoilers of the show to the minimum Lancer - Ireland’s Child of Light is Sétanta (birth name) or Cú Chulainn (given name, pronounced Ku Hul Lain), he is a demigod/warrior in Irish mythology, son of Lugh (God of Justice) and a human princess. Cu Chulainn literally means Hound of Chulainn. He got this name from killing a fierce guard/hunting dog of the Chulainn in self-defence as a child and offered to be its replacement until the puppies grown to do the job. You will see multiple references referring Lancer as dog in Fate anime. He is trained by the legendary martial art queen Scáthach, who lives in her Fortress of Shadow in Isle of Skye. She is also the one to gift Gáe Bulg (meaning the spear of pain/death) to Cú Chulainn. The spear is said to have 7 heads, each with 7 barbs and is said to pierce the enemies body from the inside with Barb. In all of Cú Chulainn stories, whenever this spear was thrown as a last resort, his opponent invariably dies. Fate picked up on this lore and added a curse to the spear “reversal of cause and effect”, in simple words, usually the spear strikes first, then your heart get pierced, but the curse reverse this cause and effect, the heart is ALREADY pierced BEFORE the spear strikes - which is why it is impossible to dodge this spear. Saber was only able to dodge it because she has battle instinct A+ that allows her to see very slightly into the future during battle. He is a fierce warrior that is known to go into battle frenzy (a berserk mode if you will), fight from his chariot, use magic in battle (spit fire from his mouth) and used a sword to divide the stone of destiny Lia Fail so by lore he could also be summoned as Berserker, Rider, Caster and Saber as well. Medb or Maeve, the queen of Connacht launched an attack on Ulster. Cú Chulainn was supposed to watch the border but he was busy with a lady and got distracted. Medb cursed all Ulster men to experience labour pain and Cú Chulainn is left to defend Ulster alone against the whole army. He challenged the army to duel in single combat one after another and kept on winning. This battle attrition lasted for months and he single-handedly fought off the whole army. He was 17 years old at the time. Medb then conspired with Cú Chulainn’s other enemy to kill him. They prepared 3 magical spears to kill him, one breaking his chariot, one killing his horse and the last one mortally wound him. Cú Chulainn has a curse/limitation/taboo/ “geis” on himself that he vowed to never eat dog meat. However, he was forced to break this when an old lady serve him dog meat (refusing hospitality is a BIG taboo in Ireland) which is said to be what weakened him and led to his death. Cú Chulainn tied his feet to standing stones in the last battle so he could die standing. He went berserker again in his last battle and fought so fiercely his enemies wouldn’t believe he was dead and didn’t dare to approach him to check, it was only until a raven landed on his shoulder (there is a famous statue of this posture in Dublin) then they knew he had died.
She apparently did lost a small amount of power because Lancer’s weapon has an effect that should result in death. Saber is just so OP she shrugs it off. And yes, Archer was about to be killed had Shirou not stopped the earlier fight.
Not really spoilers because they don't explain it in the anime, but Taiga is the granddaughter of a mob boss Kiritsugu knew (he bought the house from him, for instance), who ended up hanging around his house when he settled in Fuyuki to raise Shirou. She had a one-sided crush on Kiritsugu, and learned English to try to get closer to him, eventually leading to her becoming an english teacher at Shirou's high school in the current day. As a result of her hanging around Kiritsugu and Shirou so much, they treat each other like brother and sister, with Shirou referring to her as "Fuji-nee", basically "Big Sister Fujimaru"
not sure if Luke reads comments here but I'm gonna say it anyway, I understand why u immediately prefer this over zero because I believe fate zero was just to clear things out and give answers ,or that's how I felt anyway
Actually, Zero exists because Urobuchi was having writer’s block issues and Nasu offered him the opportunity to try something new to get over it. As a story Nasu actually does not thinks there was much need for Zero as he answers most of the important questions about the 4th war in either Stay Night, Hollow Ataraxia, or the material books for both of those. If anything, Nasu has said Zero is not directly related to Stay Night, just similar to the OG events of the fourth war (because Urobuchi messed up some details).
this ending is where the UBW and the FATE route diverge (in the game) ... in the FATE route Shiro doesnt stop Saber and Rin has to use ANOTHER (her second) command seal to save Archer... this means she got only a single command seal left after the 3rd day of the war while Shiro has 3... she is in a MUCH weaker position (since even tho he isnt dead Archer is seriously injured) and this has several other consequences that snowball to make Fate and UBW so different... if the player chooses to stop Saber with a command seal it puts you in the UBW route (you only get this option if you played the full FATE route tho) meaning that BOTH Shiro and Rin have only 2 Command Seals each and both their servants are at similar strength (Archer uninjured and Saber Injured by Lancer) this means Rin has actually some advantage over Shiro since she has more knowledge (this affects how she reacts after some future events)
To understand the end of heaven' feel and other references from the teacher of kiritsu in fate zero, you NEED TO WATCH BEFORE the garden of the sinners.
I may be very selfish in asking this but I hope you react to the 2006 anime as well It adapts the first route in Fate/stay even though it has some discrepancies
Even though Fate/Stay Night was written first, the anime is made with Fate/Zero being first in mind, and they are expecting you to have seen Zero first. As someone who's read the VN, that is very much obvious.
Yeah. The trajectory of fsn first only applies if you are intending to read the vn as that's the most important order. But since by going anime only your going to miss a lot of things anyway and spoil yourself on stuff inevitably especially if you start where ufotable started adapting, how nasu wrote his story and the order of event matters a lot less. Since casual anime viewers are most of that demographic not people trying to consume the nasuverse. It will leave gaps in ones understanding but that is just inevitable with that path
@@ssjokg4952 well technically all the Kiritsugu cameos were added in as extra fanservice for people who watched Zero. Its also the case though that Zero was made with the expectation that you've seen the Deen adaptations or read the VN first. Newer fans tend to think that before Zero anime, Fate was a dead brand, despite all the games, spin-off projects (like Prisma Illya) and a literal theatrically release animated film about a year and a half before the Zero anime released
@@ssjokg4952he's talking about Ufotables zero to ufotables ubw 2014. Ufotables heaven's feel is more like a spinoff. I don't like it but it's a lot different than vn interpretation
@@ssjokg4952The fact that you started with the second route you miss a lot of the knowledge you should have from the Fate route. A lot of the motivations of Saber, Shirou etc.
this feels more like fate stay night than unlimited blade works, I suggest watching unlimited blade works after stay night, there is a big quality jump in the animation
The proper way to watch Fate main timeline was Fate/stay nigh Fate/Zero Fate/UBW Fate/Havens feel Zero is just prequal of everything and other 3 are 3 route of same story. also Fate/UBW was the series which made me more appreciate for Thighs (Rin Tohsaka) LOL
They're both leaving? Yeah Sakura has a shitty family to go home to and Fuji-nee is the landlord's daughter... and his homeroom teacher (I think that was homeroom...). Edit: Day 1 early to school/summon archer, day 2 relaxed/showed archer around, day 3 Baeber returns.
@@BekindBekbek I know she is an English teacher but I am pretty sure the school day always starts at homeroom in Japan and being the "____" teacher doesn't stop you from being a Homeroom teacher. Like I don't want to say this is proof but as an example in Persona 5 Kawakami is your homeroom teacher and she is also the Japanese Language teacher.
Hey Luke! Another stellar episode, thanks for covering another GOAT series. Still want you to get to Fate Grand Order:Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia! So a little confusion I saw near the end, so I'll explain and keep it spoiler free! Fate has 3 timelines, and they all stem from Fate/Zero. Fate/ Stay Night follows one romance, and is a set timeline. Unlimited Blade Works follows another DIFFERENT romance, and is considered the best. Heavens Feel Movies (3 movies), are another timeline about another romance. They're all based on the same VideoGame/Visual novel. So like different paths on a choose your own adventure. The major "Choice" difference is who the Main Character romances. Who is the wifu!
@@CandorianWonder Avoiding spoilers is great. +1 It´s just, lately I´ve seen some wild people basically dismiss the other routes and only wanting to watch one of them (usually UBW) because: "It doesn´t really matter, it´s just a different girl/romance." (It´s probably a vast minority, but it kinda stuck in my head.)
@@johnyshadow to keep it spoiler free, it sounds like those people didn't see the palette swap of Baber in heavens feel? Like, that's such a major difference. And Bellepheron? (not a spoiler because it's just a word that won't come up in UBW)
@@CandorianWonder Pretty much. Going into a series blind is usually a good thing, but if you have mistaken ideas about the show, it can lead to some weird takes. Edit: Actually, it also (mostly?) applies to the VN. Like: "I played one route, surely the others aren´t that different/worth it.") Also spoiler! - - - - - If I´m not mistaken, Bellerophon is the name of a Greek hero who tamed the Pegasus, so for some greek mythology nerds, that could be a spoiler. xD
You said somewhere in this reaction that you really liked how UBW started compared to Zero! its definitely good, but think of it this way- Fate/Zero you have no idea about ANYTHING to do with the world, characters, holy grail war and youre completely blind so a LOT of information needs dumping on you so you have your bearings, but UBW gets to skip over 90% of that and take a slower approach to ease you in since you already 'know' the basics from Zero.... (idk why i brought this up, i also prefer UBW, it just came to mind)
I mean, technically they do not. They actually explain the war later, and the concept of servants…. And everything really. They just do not bother you with all the crap about what every Master is doing.
Ill say again now, this show you 100% want to pay attention to just like Zero. You have spent a lot of time being distracted by chat and missing little flashes of scenes and dialog. This whole franchise is very "Show dont tell" so there are many details trough out you can miss easy by not paying attention.
Got only says it dosnt matter because he is unaware that heavens feel is a mystery wich zero ruins Fandom generly treat fate zero as non canon seperate verse due to how characters and events are interpreted wronglt by the other author.
I thought the general agreement was that everything and anything Fate-related (even the lewd stuff) was canon, it just happened in some other universe. Like, Zero might be what happened in/before an imaginary "4th route" we didn´t get to see in the VN.
@@johnyshadowNasu himself said that Zero is similar to what happened in the 4th war of FSN. Saber and Kirei are very different from what their backstories say about them FSN. So yes Zero is canon but it isn't the 4th war that leads to FSN.
@@deadline6149 I heard that there is fanmade cut of 2006 anime that takes away everything that don`t belong to Fate route. And even then it`s still too weak for non-dedicated channel to keep interest, as well as it will trigger some very specific haters of this version.

After this is Fate Strange/Fake which just started. (And I think only the pilot is out). Which is sort of a direct sequel to Fate/Zero.

So, let´s try stopping Saber."
(Which is why I always think it´s sad that people start with UBW and skip the Fate route, even if that adaptation was a bit of a mess.)
PS: I´m exaggerating about Archer. He still did a good job, just not UBW level.
@@johnyshadow Going 6:1 against big old H qualifies for more than "a good job", I'd argue, especially with the two handicaps he had in that fight.
6:00 It's explained in Heaven's feel.
@@IceAokiji303 her grandpa is local yakuza boss, that's how Kiritsugu got this house in the first place
Saber drew the summoning circle herself under the instruction of Irisviel when they first moved in. How cool is that?
To explain the "senpai" word you asked about:
It refers to one's senior, in the sense of "upperclassman" or "someone who has been employed at the same company for longer" or "someone who's gone to the same dojo for longer" or "someone who has practiced a craft for longer" or such.
Prologue isn't really the right word, Prequel is what you are looking for.
Rin's UBW ep 0 is better described as a Prologue than Zero.
@@camil3545 ep 0 and 1 of UBW are VN prologue, it's mostly the same for all routes
"we know she's worm girl" was zero watched before this? if so, technically it is chronological order, but would release order not be the intended viewing?
fate zero won poll to watch on twitch and then ubw won and here we are
When this was airing, and the 2nd season was approaching, I went to SakuraCon in Seattle, WA and they showed us the first 3 episodes of season 2 BEFORE Japan!
Magecraft is as much a science with the many branches therein as anything else.
Gotta try to reach the root somehow, need that proper Magic.
When you play the Visual Novel you follow different routes based on your choices.
Fate Stay Night is Saber's Route
Unlimited Bladeworks is Rin's Route
Heaven's Feel is Sakura's Route
They all diverge after Saber being summoned, until here they are all the same.
You can thank Urobochi for that.
He is not happy if characters are not suffering.
I think there is a missunderstanding
there is fate zero
then fate/stay night (old anime, not by ufotable, the "basic" fate/stay night experience)
fate/stay night Unlimited blade works (you are here)
and fate/stay night heaven's feel (three movies)
the reason it's like this is because fate/stay night is a visual novel and different choices lead to different routes and endings.
So, regarding a few of your questions during the episode:
1 - Emiya is his surname (which he got from Kiritsugu when he was adopted), while Shirou is his name, much like Kiritsugu was "Emiya Kiritsugu" (hence why Saber reacted to his name).
2 - Taiga became Shirou's legal guardian (no, the following is NOT a spoiler, the show alredy made it quite obvious) after Kiritsugu died a premature death (probably due to all that grail mud from the end of F/Zero acting as turbo nuclear radiation on his body), iirc technically she owns the house until he comes of age
3 - Regarding lancer - What Saber called him (Ireland's Child of Light) is his "title", rather, a nickname.
If you are curious about the VN, feel free to read Fate there if you want to, more on that later
The next route is UBW - The one you are watching
And the third one is Heaven's Feel, the movie trilogy
They all have the same starting point and branch from there.
5 - Regarding the visual novel: It first started as an Eroge... aka a game with porn in it. HOWEVER once the series got popular they released versions without the porn, with voice acting from the anime VAs, improved soundtracks, sfx, etc. You can find them quite easily online fan-translated (no official translation, like, AT ALL.) But they did a stellar job
I think that's all for now?
16:17 Fujimura taiga is Shirou's legal tutor it just so happens taht she is his teacher, you can see a young fujimura at the end of fate zero
Isn`t she is his official guardian at the moment?
@@BekindBekbek well, if we are being truly technical he is in the care of her family, who are the ones who sold Kiritsugu the house. In the original material they actually mention that Taiga’s dad runs a Yakuza clan, treats Shirou as his grandson and handled Kiritsugu’s burial, and handles all his taxes. The anime can’t exactly tell you all that without adding more content and it’s really superfluous to the story beyond “Taiga eats there because her family are Shirou’s guardians”.
6:03 cause fate/zero spoiled that
Shinji`s father is Kariya`s brother, who got shot in leg by Kiritsugu in Zero
I forgot that happened. I do remember he basically offs himself after he fails to mind break you know who.
UBW is not meant to be first unlike people say, as it is the 2nd route of Fate/Stay Night, it was written assuming you have all the knowledge of completing the first route of the visual novel
Ufotable have done their best to adapt it to work as a first viewing or a sequel to Fate/Zero, but some things still feel a little off and confusing either way, but thats just due to the story itself not being suited as an entry point.
Who cares about Levi? shinji is voiced by koyomi araragi hahahahaahaha

UBW should never be watched first imo. Makes no sense without Zero
The nerd in me felt compelled to give exposition about Lancer, especially when I’m living in Ireland. Just to give context to the show as not many people are familiar with Lancer like Alexander the Great or King Arthur, I try to limit spoilers of the show to the minimum
Lancer - Ireland’s Child of Light is Sétanta (birth name) or Cú Chulainn (given name, pronounced Ku Hul Lain), he is a demigod/warrior in Irish mythology, son of Lugh (God of Justice) and a human princess.

Saber did not suffer any nerf, but Shirou as a master is a permanent nerf, because he has little skill as a magician. hahahaha
So, favorite game of UBW reactions starts: will Luke figure out pendant mistery before it will be answered in anime?
Those 2 episodes was just a prologue for actual story and they are mostly the same for all 3 routes
not sure if Luke reads comments here but I'm gonna say it anyway, I understand why u immediately prefer this over zero because I believe fate zero was just to clear things out and give answers ,or that's how I felt anyway
If your watching fate anime casually like he is the rest of the wider nasuverse is probably not in the cards lol
I may be very selfish in asking this but I hope you react to the 2006 anime as well
It adapts the first route in Fate/stay even though it has some discrepancies
What part of UBW was adapted with Zero in mind?
Also read the VN and honestly what you said makes no sense.
@@ssjokg4952 well technically all the Kiritsugu cameos were added in as extra fanservice for people who watched Zero.
Its also the case though that Zero was made with the expectation that you've seen the Deen adaptations or read the VN first.

Major "choice" difference I agree with, but it isn´t just some minor thing on who is lewded. It really changes the plot in some wild ways.

He's just watching casually. No need to tell him to absorb every detail. He will still enjoy
Got only says it dosnt matter because he is unaware that heavens feel is a mystery wich zero ruins
Fandom generly treat fate zero as non canon seperate verse due to how characters and events are interpreted wronglt by the other author.
I thought the general agreement was that everything and anything Fate-related (even the lewd stuff) was canon, it just happened in some other universe.
Like, Zero might be what happened in/before an imaginary "4th route" we didn´t get to see in the VN.
"Fandom generly treat fate zero as non canon"
Bruh, tell me you are not in the fandom without telling me. 💀
@@johnyshadowNasu himself said that Zero is similar to what happened in the 4th war of FSN.
Saber and Kirei are very different from what their backstories say about them FSN.
So yes Zero is canon but it isn't the 4th war that leads to FSN.
@@ssjokg4952 its similar but its not the same thing hence it isnt canon to the story of stay night, since it does get the detail wrong.
@@darklordsatan4383 that be you bruh most people agree fate zero did the orginal story dirty
I say if you don't know who Saber is, watch UBW first. If you do, watch Zero first
Ubw isn't going to tell you who saber is 😂 neither is zero for that matter
@@MrInuhanyou123 zero tells her name several times right from the start. In UBW it was told too I believe
It's bad, very bad, first you see fate stay night in 2006, see it before you spoil this whole saga
He saw zero already. There isn't much left to spoil)
seeing deen before UBW is still the best option, no matter how bad it is. They could just tell him to skip Caster episodes or smth
@@deadline6149 I heard that there is fanmade cut of 2006 anime that takes away everything that don`t belong to Fate route.
And even then it`s still too weak for non-dedicated channel to keep interest, as well as it will trigger some very specific haters of this version.
that audio brihhh...so hard to watch 🥹
