  • In this video, I will provide a personal review of the 72 set of Paul Rubens Oil Pastels. These pastels were sent to me by the manufacturer for testing purposes, and I have spent quite some time experimenting with them.
Firstly I would like to highlight this set's impressive range of colours. With 72 different shades, artists have a wide variety of options to work with. The colours are also highly pigmented, which means that they offer excellent coverage and vibrancy on different surfaces.
Another aspect that I appreciated about these pastels is their smoothness. They glide effortlessly on paper and blend easily with one another, making it easier to create gradients and other effects. The pastels are also relatively easy to handle and don't crumble or break easily, which is a plus.
Overall, I think that the Paul Rubens Oil Pastels are a great investment for artists of all levels. They offer excellent quality, versatility, and value for money. If you are looking for a reliable set of pastels that can add an extra dimension to your artwork, I would highly recommend giving these a try.

Agree with your dislike of soft pastels. I can’t even watch anyone using soft pastels, much less touch them. 😂 Literally makes my skin crawl. Like scratching a blackboard. 😖

I like this, it looks rather impressionistic - I have been wanting to work with oil pastels for a while but wasn’t sure how to go about it. Thanks for the warning that it will remain tacky

You can use water and a paper towel to lift watercolor. It depends on the paper. Your painting is very pretty, I like you style! 😊

I find in soft pastels, the darker they are, the harder they can be. I think it has to do with the kind and amount of pigment that’s used.

Thank you for sharing! It was super interesting to see how you use the oil pastels. I really like using them in sketchbooks or on top of paintings as you just tried. But the only issue is that they never dry, so those nice thick textures can get smudged easily. I'm looking to try oil sticks but they are a lot more expensive.

Yes, this is the main reason that I do t use them very often in sketch books either. They are really best suited for artworks that can be framed behind glass
