I just placed my order yesterday! I'm a bit nervous since i've seen a lot of information on how oily these pastel sticks can get, as that would make the drawing process become extremely messy. I've only used Mungyo and pentel as a beginner set, so i would love to try out a different kind of oil pastel. I think this set is great to get impasto effect, and I can't wait to try them out, and hopefully, get good results from them😊

Where did you order? We struggle recently to order from Amazon. I hope you will have amazing time using them! Only a few of my set were were oily.

@@artcraftblog lol i don't think my answer is gonna be helpful because i live in Vietnam, a country shares borderline with China so the shipping cost is almost free. I mean i can get them for almost the same price that you do have to pay if you were in China. In other words, i got them for dirt cheap, and not through Amazon, but i will come back with a review when I got them. I used to be obsessed with reviews to see which oil pastel are the "best" and hating on the cheaper pastel bc i was struggling with them, but after seeing beautiful artworks that are created by the same pastel that i am using, or even cheaper ones, and everything i considered negative abt the cheap pastel are actually good for the kind of drawing they want to created. I realized that i was just using them wrong and what might not work for me might work for somebody else. So yeah, you just have to learn more about oil pastel to find the exact kind you need. Don't hate on them just bc they weren't what you're looking for, bc you looked for the wrong thing. I think a lot of people buy them bc they were somewhat famous for being a decent sennelier dupe and a cheaper alternative, but they are just a dupe, not sennelier. They are not going to work as good as sennelier, bc that's not what they offer. But they can still make perfectly good drawings, you just have to learn how to do it. Give the art piece you think you can't use another chance, or just quit it and stick to the one you love. It's your choice to make, but i hope no one falls victim to the "i will buy this as a cheaper alternative to xyz". No they are not and you will be very disappointed when your expectation weren't met. Just stick to the pricey one that you are used to, i have learned this lessons so many time the hard way.

@chiluu1774 aah I see! You are the lucky one to get it quick! I think there are good and worse art supplies in any category and it doesn't matter how expensive they are sometimes it's just marketing!

Oil pastels need to stay in cool environment. Unfortunately delivery vehicles can be too warm or the weather is warm or package is delivered to your home & left outside etc. Open box carefully…if they look ok, place in refrigerator or cool place for a little while before using them. Store them in cool place too. If they are a mess when you get them, return them immediately. Amazon is good for that.

Very dissapointed to see that a 72 set of colors doesnt carry a true red.... not even one! Like a firetruck red.
Also the lack of the same consistency throughtout the sticks is a deal breaker for me. I was unsure about buying these, since I have their previous sets, Im not happy with for several reasons... and I thought maybe they improved their formula with this set, and they did to some extend, but not to my expectations.. I better stick to the brands I already have.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! ❤

Hi! Thank you for the heads-up! Let's share where you are based (region) so people will know too! What kind of smell you think it was? Mine didn't smell at all!so it's definitely worth investigating! I have holbein, cray pas, my colleague has sennelier and we loved these ones! Would you like me to reach out to the brand to find out what it can be?

    Hello
Which paper would you recommend to improve these oil pastels to grip (adhesion) on the paper surface and hide the paper white color?
    Thank you
    Maryline

    • @artcraftblog
      @artcraftblog  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, Maryline! There is papers that labeled "for pastels", they work great. Normally they are papers 200gr , and they do have some texture (tooth for pigments to grip). But the white color can still be visible. If you don't like it, you can use tinted papers - the one I have in the video is Mungyo- they can be pink, beige, grey etc and even the background is visible it is nice (especially of you choose paper of a complementary color) OR you can also press a bit harder or use a cotton ball to smooth the pigment.
But in general, pastel application techniques can make paper visible and it is part of the charm :) you need to blend it or use finger/cotton to really smooth jt around.
      Does it make sense?

I tape a piece of wax paper or glassine paper on top of the finished page so avoid the oil pastel from get the smeared or marking other pages.

oooh! that's amazing tip! I am a beginner with pastels! always good to learn. I will get wax paper! As I made for my friend quick sketch of her cats and couldn't figure out how to transport it safely... But it make sense, I use parchment paper for storing unfinished acrylic paintings, could have guessed I can use it with pastel haha :) Thank you so much!

Hi, there! which Amazon you are with? (I mean country). The US one doesn't have it...I see...hmm. I got them directly through the brand (I'm in Asia now and it was easier for me to get it directly from China), you can check the official website!
But yes, as tlembro says, they are also on Ali Express.
If you want, I can ask my contact with them when the 72 colors will be on US Amazon!
