    The war memorial you mentioned is actually a sculpture built during the communist period dedicated to the Red army that occupied us and imposed the Communist ideology. It should be either put into museum or completely destroyed. That's why it is covered with graffiti. It is not vandalism but civil protest!

    • @RyanPelle

      Ah wow this is quite interesting. I did wonder why it was graffitied. What you said makes more sense. I learned something new today.

      As a person who thinks that the monument of the red army should be put in the "socialist art" museum, I must mention that we also have a monument of the "americans who served in Bulgaria during WWII". Basically, the anglsaxons bombed us and the soviets occupied us. So, either we let be both monuments, because they were fighting the same thing, either we remove them both.

      @@SeutesTercero One monument is for pilots who died serving their country the other is for drunk bastards who raped and pillage all over europe ;) The only soviet soldiers who died in Bulgaria are the ones who killed a security guards in Burgas when they were breaking in a warehouse to steal Ethanol to drink like is "Acholol" in aftermath 154 soviet soldiers got affected 120 have gone trough Hospital 6 have been blinded and 42 of them died ..... So is these the heroes who deserve monument ?
      Not to mention that Soviets bombard Bulgaria as well between 1941 and 1944 ;) Bulgaria and Soviet Union got in war at 5 september 1944

      Don't impose your weak-minded liberal propaganda on a simple tourist. This type of grand Soviet monument is in almost every European country as a symbol of the gratitude for the victory over Nazi Germany. In the civilized west Europe people don't draw, destroy or desecrate their monuments. That specific memorial is called the Brother's Mound and it is actually an ossuary where the bones of soldiers from both the Soviet and Bulgarian army lie. Only talibans like the "modern" liberals do this and they think it's cool. If it weren't for the soviets, Bulgaria would have been cut into pieces, just like Churchil and Roosevelt wanted.

    • @ApO__
      @ApO__ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RyanPelle Cool video man, I really dig your style, very fresh and easy to watch. The memorial is build in the soviet time and it's dedicated to the people who fought and died in WW2 against Nazi Germany, including Bulgarians. The person who complains about occupation is part of a small minority of rootless fifth column crazies, who are financed by the US to spit on everything from that time period in Bulgaria, because of the anti-russia agenda.

It really warms the heart that people coming from outside see the good parts of our country first, and are saved the bitter-sweet reality of our situation. Natural mineral spring water is naturally sulphuric, no matter where in the world it is - this is nature. People do not normally drink the water straight from the tap, but they collect the water in jugs/bottles. The reason is, the sulphur will evaporate away over time, and you will have regular natural spring water. Also, it isn't tastey to drink hot water, so you need to collect it to cool down before consuming anyways.

Because of this there is now a stage where on occasion cultural events take place.

I'm referring to what you said at around minute 6. We don't have greek orthodox churches in Sofia . We do have one Russians though. Cheers

    It's not a Greek Orthodox church, it's a Bulgarian Orthodox church. Our church is on it's own, still orthodox, but nothing to do with the Greeks. The center of Sofia is famous for having a church, a mosque and a synagogue in close proximity of each other symbolizing the variety of different ethnicities that populate Bulgaria.

    Sofia is quite a green city, there are several big parks and a lot smaller ones. The center has very nice architecture, strongly influenced by Western European architecture.
    There are many places that are worth a visit, some of them being "Sofia history museum", "National history museum", "National archeological museum". If you are into bars - there are many nice spots offering variety of cocktails or craft beers.
    Whenever in Sofia, find and try "tarator" - a cold "soup" from yogurt and cucumbers (usually garnished with dill, garlic and crushed walnuts".

    Actually the church is not a Greek orthodox church. It is an ancient Bulgarian church named after St Petka. The name of the church is: St Petka Samardjyiska. Also something else you missed - there is also a catholic church in that area. The center of Sofia is known by the fact that there are temples of all 4 religions in our area: Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, Judaism.

      @@RyanPelle Well , the whole country is riddled with mineral water wells and springs . Thousands of them , some have hotels build on top using hot water from the deeps for pools and spa activities. You don't need to go to Sofia next time :) Also over 3000 caves , over 4000 ancient tombs and burrows most of which never excavated. Good thing it's a small country where many places can be visited for small amount of time. Thank you for the video.
