Just when I thought I couldn’t love her anymore, she shuts down plastic waste like a boss! Thank you for being a wonderful example and a wonderful human, Lisa 😊
My favourite 3 tips in your video today 6:16 Wobbly wobbly embeds 10:40 Maths headaches off setting embed oils 13:30 Multi pot swirl in squeeze bottle hassle averted
I did the straws first and then tried your method with soap dough.. so glad I had your large extruder gun I just bought. I put on one of the fimo discs and went to town making huge lines of soap dough.. Beautiful soap!
I have some stainless steel tubes that my grandmother used when she was a cake decorator. I used them already to make polka dot soap after watching another you tuber. They are way more versatile than the straws. Perfect sharp holes everytime. This soap looks amazing! Thanks for sharing this technique with the template.
What a clever way of doing this! For me, using embeds would be so much easier. Side note from this 80’s kid: seeing all the perfectly round, chalky white embeds instantly reminded me of candy cigarettes😂
I know exactly what you mean and thought that as I was rolling them all out, the sweets had a little red bit painted on the end too. Gosh could you imagine them nowadays
I really like the soap dough method! That one seems much less complicated than all the straws and multi-day pours. Thank you for sharing! I also adore those colors!
You’re genius , very creative problem solver person. Such a complicated design make it look so easy that even myself an amateur soaper challenge me to give it a try.
Hi Lisa, I love that you did this tutorial on the Polka dotted soaps because I had been thinking prior to your video how unfair it was for those soapers who don't have 3D printers and maybe no 3D printers for competition soaps would be a good idea. Your soaps turned out amazing and these 2 colours are 2 of my absolute favourite duo colours. Thankyou for sharing your video
Hi Tanya, thanks a lot. I do think 3D printing is growing and for some challenges it can be an advantage, but there are always lots of ways around it and I've never felt that you actually need to have one to make a stunning soap. But I am obviously saying that from the point of view of someone who has one :-)
The punching out of the holes reminded me of one of those coloured pencils with the different coloured nibs where if you wanted a new colour you had to kinda move them all around in a loop
LOVE IT!!! I've been waiting to see how you did this one Lisa. You've made a complicated looking soap, with a very easy technique. Totally agree with you about the straws - this way is FAR better. And honestly, I'm one of those people who would just make extra soap rather than getting a maths headache. :D
Your polkadot soap has given me some idea for when I get back to making soap. I had to stop my soap business for medical reasons. Monday May 3rd I have surgery to fix some pinched nerves in my wrist and elbow. This is a cute idea. 😍😍😍
Thanks so much for this wonderful post. I am much too new to try this just now but so appreciate the many gems of knowledge and advice throughout this piece. Is there a "rule book" of FO's and EO's that one should avoid in order to produce a slow batter?
I love the way you approach putting a design together and the way you explain the mathematics for soaping. Btw I did pop into the shop and purchased the disks I contacted you about xx
The Polka Dot Soap Challenge is the most interesting of this years challenges for me and this is simply the cleverest method to make the polka dot soaps challenge I have seen. I had thought to use paper straws, but why use straws at all, when you can simply extrude your own! That is rather a genius step in my opinion! And I love the melt and pour template idea too, which resolves the problem of using some kind of hard template base. Suddenly clear melt and pour has become more useful for me! Using the fondant smoothing plate took me way back to my pastry cooking apprentice days! video Cheers Mike
HI Mike, so pleased you found all my little swaps helpful. I think some people tried paper straws, some work and for others the straws just got stuck on the soap and would not come out. I agree with the melt and pour. I've had the same tub of it for about 2 years, I never make soap with it, just use it for blocking up moulds and all sorts.
Ok, when the pictures came out a few months ago for this type of soap, I figured you somehow had to make the polka dots with rods of soap in your loaf mold, and everyone said that was insane, and it was impossible to do it that way. I figured there had to be a way, but couldn’t figure out how to hold all those rods on place. Then everyone came out with the straw method … and I was annoyed that I was wrong about the rods. But I was right! You can use rods! The way you hold them in place is brilliant!!
There's very rarely ever 1 right method. I'm forever looking at ways things are done and thinking, hmmm is that the best way? So if you think it can be done another way, you should go for it :-)
Absolutely gobsmacked! A lot of work, but the result is brilliant. I wouldn't have thought of the top and bottom template. I would have been struggling to think some way to do it. 😜 Cheers 👍 💕
This is fantastic! Thank you for this tutorial. I joined the challenge in April and tried multiple times with (paper, compostable 😜) straws but had the issue you mention of getting a solid polka dot in each hole. I gave up and didn’t submit an entry after the fourth try. But! I think it’s worth trying again with this technique. I really appreciate you sharing this tutorial!
Oh, that's a shame. I think some people were OK with the paper straws but some certainly had problem, I would imagine not all paper straws are equal. This method is a bit of a faff rolling the soap dough, but it works very well and no unfilled holes :-)
This is cool! I was really wondering how you would get those poca dots 🤔, but this was interesting. Beautiful soap and colors, thanks for sharing, you are very informative Lisa. 😊
What a great execution of your polka dot soap Lisa!! I want to try it as you next time without straws, but it`s a long way i think ;) Don`t know how it works with extruder and soap dough ... Thank you very much for your great video tutorial, i love it every time to watch it, TINA
Hey Tina, so lovey to see you again. I like the extruded soap method. It is a process to extrude all the dots but then you don't have to pull straws and try to fill the holes.
Hi. I love your soap! You are a genious of soap. My mothertoungh is not english and sometimes i don't understand. Can you please tell me how you make the strow? I watched your video several times but i don't understand. Please help me. Many thanks
Gorgeous! Love your colour choices. Perfectly executed, love your technique. I wonder if you could make reusable templates from the same material as your clear soap mould? Thanks for sharing! Always excited to see your next soap adventure! x
this is such a unique approach to making polka dot soap and i absolutely love it! you always explain everything perfectly and i always learn something when i watch your videos, thank you for that you are so very helpful, i'm forever grateful.
Would silicone straws have worked? Maybe with a skewer to keep them from flexing too much? I wonder if they would be easier to slide out of the soap then plastic too.
I would worry with silicone straws that the batter would squash them and ruin your polka dot shapes as silicone is quite soft, they would slide out well,
@@IDreamInSoap that’s a good point I hadn’t thought of. And they’d probably still have to be glued down with something like MP so might as well use soap dough and not risk the design not coming out as intended.
Lisa, do you have any tips for avoiding those dreaded bumpies that sometimes appear after using a wire cutter? Or are they just to be expected and need to be planed off?
These are so cool, I can’t imagine how disappointed you’d be using the straw method imagine cutting it and there was heaps of places without soap 🤦🏼♀️
Thanks so much Kasie. I think quite a few people struggled, I have done the hole filling method myself and it was ok, but you do need to be very careful filling the holes
Like what is the difference between soap bases, soap paste, and soap dough. I know what soap dough is, I've been watching the soap pasta and base a d I'm totally confused?? Beautiful soap!😍😍😁
They should all be the same, the soap base is just your normal recipe, I think some people just call that soap paste, but I could be wrong. Soap dough, is just your soap once it's gone through saponification, but wrapped up so it's not able to cure and go hard
