    two thoughts:
    1. Julian Lage is the best guitar player alive.
    2. I know video recording can be distracting for audience and performers, but it would have been a shame to deny the rest of the world a chance to hear this astounding improvisation.

    Just when you think he can’t possibly play anything more astonishing, he does

    He is definitely on a level all by himself. As a guitar player, I must say that even after 56 years of playing I don't think I've ever come across another player who is so fluid in their playing and style.

    Lage is like a fish you'll never grab. You can't expect what he will play, he's always searching somewhere else for something new, for something fresh. He's actually inspired by Bach but Bach had a very geometrical way to create his melodic lines, you hear the pattern coming before it's played. All is perfect, but all is closed like in eternal circle. Lage usés the predictible lines and patterns which compose Bach's circle to open spaces we didn't imagine yet. Incredible.

    The art of improvisation, so casual (it takes years), a moment in music that will never come back but done night after night.

    Julian's playing is even more stunning than Dave's brushes matching the color of his socks.

    Let's see anyone in our Pop Music culture do anything close to that.

    • @theethanatorem
      @theethanatorem ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Julian accomplishes his aesthetic goals and so do many pop musicians. Why compete?

    • @StephenLewisful
      @StephenLewisful ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@theethanatorem Good observation. To my ears, there is no competition. The level of ability is clear with Julian. He plays a tele, going through pedals that may add tone qualities in front of the amp but it's all Clean Tones. Anything he wants in his music comes from his fingers. I think if Pop Music, which I enjoy as much as the next guy, was at a higher level of performance we would have much better Pop Music and a much smaller list of GOATS, as they say. Now, anyone can Autotune and Sound Affect their way to fame and fortune and I don't think that's good for music in general.
      That's the spirit of my comment above.

    Not a trace of Emily in that intro....but some amazing playing...Take a look at his solo version of Darn That Dream....more amazing imagination.

    It reminds me of Greg Koch, which is a compliment to both. Julian is obviously from another planet, however.
