Great Stuff!! If your digging the prog metal scene, I highly recommend the band Scardust. They are from Israel and should be way more famous then they are. The song Concreate Cages is a good starting point!! Arrowhead, Dials, Gone, all amazing tracks!!
One of the reasons that Jordan Rudess (keyboards) was courted by Dream Theater in the 90's was because he was so incredibly creative on the keyboards... a graduate of Jullliard School, Rudess was a top session musician since the 80's, and an accomplished pianist and composer. Since joining Dream Theater, Rudess has also incorporated samples, programming and various sound effects w/ electronic devices. He has also recorded instrumental solo records. Kevin Moore was Dream Theater's original keyboardist, but he quit in 1994 (he was unwilling to tour... he was also apparently not very willing to compromise on the music he wrote) ... Derek Sherinian (keyboards) joined from 1994 to 1998, because Jordan Rudess had turned down an offer to join the band. In 1997, Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy (drums) and John Petrucci (guitar) got an opportunity to jam w/ Tony Levin (bass) who is legendary for his work w/ Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, etc... Jordan Rudess (keyboards) also signed on, and that became Liquid Tension Experiment. 2 albums of instrumental tracks were released in 1998 and 1999 and were successful (A 3rd album was recently recorded in the pandemic)... The band was more confident as they had worked together and created new music... so they asked Rudess to join Dream Theater in 1999, and he accepted (Derek Sherinian was let go, but he stayed friendly w/ the band and has been working w/ Mike Portnoy recently). A lot of what u hear on Dream Theater records is the musical partnership that John Petrucci (guitar) has w/ Jordan Rudess... the 2 musicians share a very symbiotic bond when it comes to playing together... feeding off each other and putting Dream Theater songs together. John Myung (bass) is also a vital part of creating the music - he adds his effects and grooves on a 6-string bass... and then there is Mike Mangini (drums) who adds his mathematical beats to the rhythms. A lot of DT fans rag on James LaBrie (vocals), but he is the voice of Dream Theater, and he does contribute the vocal melodies to the music they compose... John Petrucci writes a bulk of lyrics, but he depends of LaBrie to incorporate those lyrics into the songs.
What sounds like a growing vocal presence is a mellotron program on one of Jordan's keyboards. The mellotron was a huge keyboard instrument in the 60s and 70s, particularly for progressive rock like Genesis and Yes. It consisted of a keyboard in which the stroke of a key triggered a pre-recorded tape to run, offering sounds so real that it became a preeminent instrument for many years. The strings, choirs and orchestral instruments were legendary. The instrument, itself, is notorious for it's fragility when moved, for it's tapes to break or heat up and go out of tune. It was common for many touring bands to have two or three mellotrons touring with them in case of failure. They were almost irreparable on the road. Today, there are digital samples of the mellotron which are much more reliable.
DT is one of my favorite bands, this is off their latest album. You want soe great DT check out images and words, awake, scenes from a memory, or Octavarium.
Ooohh if we're doing DT, im gonna give you some list right here Octavarium Metropolis part 1 Dance of eternity Glass prison Under a glass of moon Panic Attack Pull Me Under The Count of Tuscany A Nightmare to remember The Alien As I Am
This is the life, the mirror, 6.00, surrounded, learning to live, spirit carries on, bigger picture, best of times, on the backs of angels…..all KILLER no FILLER
Favourite song on the album 🤘 Also, thanks for getting straight into it and not droning on with the whole "like, subscribe" BS before we even know if we like the video 💪
I'm so happy with whoever recommended Smashing Pumpkins and Dream Theater. My two favorite bands. I can't wait for these songs to be reviewed: Smashing Pumpkins: Soma, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, Muzzle, and many more Dream Theater: A Change of Seasons, Octavarium, Illumination Theory(all the 20+ minute epics lol)
Rabbit. Hole. Dream Theater has many sounds, from the 80s til now, with two different drummers, three different keyboardists, and even different singers if you go way back. So much great content available, you are in for a treat.
Once again you came thru with Truth! This is one of the most amazing bands ever to have formed. You haven't even began to go down the rabbit hole. I sent you another donation request. This ones more of a true to life story that involved John Petrucci and the band touring in Tuscany. Lyrics are a must so you can follow the adventure. Yes it epic, but you'll never even know. Short songs went away a long time ago. Thanks again Polo...
Octavarim, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Scenes From a Memory, Images and Words, Awake, Train of Thought... so many good albums to choose from. Were I to pick one song for you to react to, it would be Learning to Live. Edit: DT *is* nerd music. But that's why we love them, along with Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Tori Amos, Devin Townsend, etc...
Just adding a drop to the ocean, as others have already stated, you should listen to old DT, Images and Words is a landmark, I do not hate new DT but that album is literally a classic.
Dream Theater are one of the Top 10 Musicians ever lived. it’s unbelievable how they influenced the modern metal and what they deliver live its mindblowing. every Album is a Masterpiece
Bro, I'm a big Dream Theater fans from South East Asia, can i request The Great Debate song from Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Its a 46 and 2 with steriod! 😅
It would be true if the songs were women. Steroids would make her bigger, stronger, more defined and more muscular… But those are not the things I look for in a woman. 46&2 is a practically perfect woman. The Great Debate is her version of her on steroids: she has all these beautiful qualities, but she's more fake, awkward, less feminine and has a lot of pimples and hair that she could have avoided. This is my general opinion when someone compares the two bands. D.T. are exceptional in many things including technique, but being all virtuosos they tend to overdo it a bit and in the end what comes out is almost never as good as it could have been. TOOL instead do exactly what they have to do without necessarily showing off and the result is always and only perfection.
Great reaction my friend. You definitely need to react to The Alien and, if you can stand the more than 20 minutes A View From The Top Of The World both from the same album as Sleeping Giant!!!
Some of the members met while at Berkeley school of music and the keyboard player if this is Jordan dudes was a child prodigy who entered juliard as a child of 9 I think is what I heard and I believe the drummer taught drums at Berkeley
Anything after the 13 album is boring …. Speaking as fan from 1995…. and my channel name… Petrucciator…. 😂. They lost the killer chord progressions. Listen to LTE 1 and 2… NOT 3

Barstool warrior! The song, the guitarsolo.... Brings a tear to my eye, every time!😍
Please give us more Dream Theater!
"In the Presence of Enemies Pt. I and II". That's all I'm going to say.
Mr Mike Mangini is on drums since 2011!

2:50 is the most accurate commentary for what listen to DT feels like.

Definitely, images and words is a must.
A change of seasons..
You forgot dramatic turn of events 😊. For me, it’s IaW part 2 ❤

IMO OG Dream Theater is where it's at to be blown away. Images and Words through Train of Thought.
Thank you Polo for some Dream Theater!
Masters!
My friend you must listen to the official video for The Alien off of the same album as this song. They won the Grammy for The Alien
Check out 'The Glass Prison' by Dream Theater... that will blow your mind 🤘🤘🔥🔥
One of the subtle, slower Dream Theater songs - 'Sacrificed sons'... 🎶🔥
Favourite song on the album 🤘
Also, thanks for getting straight into it and not droning on with the whole "like, subscribe" BS before we even know if we like the video 💪
Liquid Tension Experiment "Acid Rain" live.
Final boss music engage!
You're comment of "I've never felt like a bigger nerd... respectfully " is how true long time DT fans feel. Music nerds.... well said.

This is the favorite song for James Labrie. He said this song is the essence of Dream Theater band.
Rabbit. Hole. Dream Theater has many sounds, from the 80s til now, with two different drummers, three different keyboardists, and even different singers if you go way back. So much great content available, you are in for a treat.

Not a usual track to listen to from them. I wouldn't have started there. But check out "As I Am" . 🤘
Agreed! Or the Great Debate! Portnoy is the best of the best for a damn good reason!
As I am is terrible lmao. Cringe lyrical phrasing. Sounds like hair rock.
Great sound
You're right, in music there are simple and complex time signatures, in addition to polyrhythms
Great reaction, I have a song suggestion you may like, It Bites - Once around the world. I think this fits in well with the stuff you like.

Kinda agreed but as musician, DT is my preference over Tool. I love Tool discographies and music. But i love DT more. 😊
So is Home by Dream Theater. Tool riff but with more shredding.

If you like DreamTheater, you really need to check out An Endless Sporadic sometime. Awesome jazz/rock band with a similar style.
Excelente reacción, te recomiendo. FATAL TRAGEDY, DE DREAM THEATER LIVE IN LONDON. SALUDOS DESDE MÉXICO
Bro, Dream Theater is amazing
Mike Mangini is the drummer
Great reaction my friend. You definitely need to react to The Alien and, if you can stand the more than 20 minutes A View From The Top Of The World both from the same album as Sleeping Giant!!!
Hey Polo, what is this thing behind you that moves all the time? How can i search for it, what's its name? Thank you!🙏
Some of the members met while at Berkeley school of music and the keyboard player if this is Jordan dudes was a child prodigy who entered juliard as a child of 9 I think is what I heard and I believe the drummer taught drums at Berkeley
He still teaches drums at Berkley
Definitely some nerdy vibes but as a guitarist I can’t get a enough of it haha
If you like Mike Manginni on drums try anything from Chris Turner. Mind blown!
More DT!!!!!!!!
Mike Mangini on Drums.
DT nerds are the coolest
I don't why but that perpetual machine in the background is giving me super anxiety lol
Nerdism is okay if listening to DT!
Do your ears & mind a favor and check out any songs from album called IMAGES AND WORDS
Good call, definitely nerd music. I only listen to DT out of guitar nerdery. For general music appreciation, that's a higher level.
FREE TOP G
16:10 IMHO I think Mangini should stop requesting people to react to his DT era...
So Oriental harmonics included
I’ve always wanted to get into Dream Theater, but the vocals always drive me away. The instrumentation is killer, though.
Does he really sing “like a chicken farm”?
John Petrucci is one of my favorite guitar players... still isn't DT without Portnoy though :(
This definitely IS DT and this song is a DT classic.
They have done very well without Portnoy. He wants people to stop the criticism of Mangini. It's is DREAM THEATER!
You are ripping yourself off of great Tool quality music by not checking out those Karnivool songs
Anything after the 13 album is boring …. Speaking as fan from 1995…. and my channel name… Petrucciator…. 😂. They lost the killer chord progressions. Listen to LTE 1 and 2… NOT 3
So many better songs, i dont get why ppl aways ask for the most crappy songs 🤦♂️
Check out the older stuff with portnoy on the drums
Best song from the last 5 albums is “at wits end” he definitely should’ve did that, the last great dream theater album was black clouds
I love this tune man, great messaging.
This song isn't crappy, while I agree that most of my favorite DT stuff is from the Portnoy era. I do enjoy Mangini's era too though.
Oh ffs!
portnoy fanboy
Lame unoriginal lyrics. Very contrived as well. Not their best.
You favor your own voice over the music you're playing. Stop that.
Please watch dream theater- in the presence of Enemies live 2007
This is an absolutely insane performance!!!
Polo! You have to do a deep dive into the band, Marillion!
‘White Russian’, off of the album ‘Clutching at Straws’, would be a good start.
