In this video you get to spend the weekend with me doing some work in the garden and helping my grand uncle Tage with some forest work, and also cleaning out the old barn on the property of my art studio. All this while struggling with our nordic vampires. But the magical summer has finally begun and I enjoy every second being out working on our homestead or on our garden.
I hope you will enjoy the video! Thank you for watching! ♥

Hi ! Try to plant repelling plants everywhere in the garden and even have some indoor like citronella, catnip/ mint, rosemary, lavender, thyme, lemon grass, and basil and there are some very beautiful like marigold, nasturtiums and bee balm. You can make you own repelling spray by using the essential oil of these plants. Have a good day !

      Hi Jonna!
I just heard about this mosquito repellent device - Thermacell, haven't tested myself, but seems to work very well basing on some videos.

Hello Jonna, my name is Matt. There are several things to know about mosquitoes. First they are crepuscular which means they come out more at dawn and dusk because there is more food available. Mosquitos are attracted to CO² your body secretes when working, and they are attracted to the color light blue. A few things you can try. Planting lemongrass and citronella in areas where you don't want them, like close to the house. You could make some bat boxes, more bats less mosquitos and it gives bats a place to hibernate (not in the barn) when it's cold. You can make them look however you want. There are many plans online or you could buy a few bat boxes and paint them. Lastly you could get a floppy hat with mesh screen like a bee keeper's hat but then we couldn't see your beautiful face 😊 I hope that helped. I took film study in college and love your cinematography, the drone shots are always so beautiful. Thank you!

      @ReadRose-zj8dd 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +105

      Hi Matt
Love your suggestions about the bat boxes. Our family, if we’re having a back yard gathering we use a pump sprayer with a mouth wash of any kind and we spray the grass maybe 30 minutes prior it works nicely to hold the mosquitoes off for the night. Good for a few days as long as it doesn’t rain. I can hardly watch with the mosquitoes landing on your face, gives me anxiety. For the bites place a hot table spoon on the bite for a few seconds. I place 2 or 3 tablespoons in a cup of hot water then alternate using them. It works, we have a lot of mosquitoes at our cabin and we use this method on the kids before bed. Releases the itch around your ankles so you can sleep:)
For planting when your not filming can you use a head netting?
Would you two enjoy kayaking or paddle boarding?
With Uhan’s back as soon as you feel you’ve tweaked your back take two Tylenol. This enables the swollen nerves in your back to release the pressure. I assure you it works. My brother broke his back when he was younger and he’s the one that mentioned this method to my husband.
So satisfying to clean out such a beautiful space, I love it!
Wow great treasure in the beautiful bike! The barn looks amazing, the brick wall and the floors are beautiful!
Please tell your grand uncle Tage that one of his million fans says hello! He looks amazing what’s his secrets to staying so young! Oh a hell of a hello from Canada! Love his humour! 👋🏼🍁🇨🇦🤗🦟
I too have Norwegian roots 😊
Bless you all, thank you for another wonderful video! Loads of love coming your way. 🩷🤗🙏🏻 🍁🇨🇦👋🏼

What I like about Jonna and her videos is the semplicity of them, showing real life. No urge to show new purchases, no useless PR boxes, no expensive bags or heavy consumism; playing an old music cassette in an old stereo, wash the wooden floor, enjoy the sun: that's what we need to see, refreshing reality to prove that we don't need to see and follow the mass in the crazy trend of the moment.

This will be an odd comment, but I have to thank Jonna for something. For years I've been using opiate painkillers to manage chronic pain. This week I decided I'm finally ready to get by without them. I'm now on Day-5, the final day of withdrawal and very intense suffering. I'm watching Jonna's new video and for the first time in 5 days, I don't feel like I'm suffering. I've stopped shaking, hurting, sweating and feeling like I'm on the edge of breaking down.
To feel peace and happiness in this context is a gift beyond words. Thank you for helping me through this, Jonna.

Misquito tips: bug net hats, wearing beige and not dark colours, and if working in one place gardening you can set up a fan as the breeze drives them away . It feels funny working in front of a fan outside but some days it's the only way to get anything done . You can even get shirts with built in bug nets in the hoods, they help so much with the frustration.

Hi Jonna, I never comment on your videos which I've been watching for a long time now, but I'm on the night train leaving Sweden (to back to France) after an incredible week of nature and wildness. I still wanted to keep Sweden with me for a while, so your video was the perfect comfort. I'm leaving this country with a heavy heart. I don't think anything has ever made me happier than the midnight sun, the night swims and the evening lights. I couldn't go home to sleep. I wanted to spend all my time outside. I wanted to stop time. This wonderful country moved me to the very depths of my being and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! Thank you for your beautiful videos. 1 - Make an infusion with orange peel.

Hi Jonna, I really do understand how annoying the mosquitos are. Because here in the Scottish Highlands we are plagued by midges during the summer months. They love still mornings and evenings when it's warm and humid.
The midges are worse as the sun goes down in the evening especially near water. Fishermen call it "the Rise" because the fish rise to the surface to eat the insects.
When you fish with 'fly' they are small fishing hooks that are dressed with small pieces of feather of different colours to mimic the insects that the fish eat.
The midges can be SO bad that they could drive you mad.
So, when we're fishing or sitting by our tent when we're camping, we wear a midge net over a hat with a brim, which stops the net touching our face.
We also slowly burn wild sage, and also wear it around our neck and over our ears, which keeps the midges away.
Citronella candles also help to keep midges away.
The most popular repellant spray used by the British armed forces is "Skin So Soft" by Avon, so it not only keeps midges away it also moisturises your skin!
On one campsite I visited at Gairloch they have a midge catching machine, which is basically a bowl of beer and a net (like a sack). Midges and mosquitos are attracted by carbon dioxide from the beer. They get trapped in the net.
I've seen a net bag filled with millions even zillions of midges. So, the beer trap really does work.
Burning incense sticks and cones also works really well, and smoking a pipe also works. I can imagine you smoking a pipe Jonna 😁.
You did a really great job clearing the barn. You are truly an inspiration Jonna. I too have some clearing out to do. But I also love to go busking with my violin Love your videos Jonna, Thank you. ❤️🙏

Your comment made me so wish to be back in Scotland! We were there in September and on Isle of Lewis the midges were so awful!!! We were prepared though with our midge nets and spray. Your country is so beautiful. Thank you for your comment and the nostalgia! Love from VT USA.

Oh midge nets? I live in the Swedish forest and have a vegetable garden and there are a LOT of midges (knott in Swedish) this season, and quite early. They go through mosquito nets easily and then go into your hair, clothes and bite you everywhere .And the itching is sooo annoying. It's like a swarm around you when I'm working outside. I often go outside in the rain or when there is wind, otherwise I try to delay my chores outside as much as I can. I really hate them! Okay, but special midge nets. They won't get through?

    • @denysmcnair302
      @denysmcnair302 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

I actually arrived in the Isle of Lewis last night. No midges because it's windy, wet, and very cold. This time last year it was so hot that I felt I was in the Med! Today it feels like mid winter.
I feel blessed to be surrounded by the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, but it can be very bleak especially mid Winter when nightfall is at 3:30pm
When people visit during summer and are fortunate to have good weather, they think that is 'normal'. In reality you have to accept I that even in Summer we can have 4 seasons in one day.
I brought my small caravan for this holiday, and I'm SO glad that I have my woodstove to keep me cosy.
On the one hand I have my duck down jacket for cold days like this, and my Factor 30 sunscreen, and swimming trunks for hot sunny days.

You can make a mixture of water, baker's yeast and sugar. Mix it all well and open a circle in plastic bottles, in which you will pour the mixture, then hang it near you and different places around your homestead. One such mixture in one bottle can clear the size of a football field. It works! I've done it every summer in Minnesota and California where i used to live. Good luck and God bless.

Mosquitos hate the smell of organic unrefined coconut oil with essential oils added, worn on face & exposed skin.
The natural preditor of mosquitos is dragonflies and they can be purchased and released to multiply and spawn near ponds and wet bogs where there is water.
Do an internet search as to which essential oils to put into the coconut oil as a skin moisturizer. For example frankincense with clove, eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender, great for skin and repels.

Jonna, there are invented machines to reclaim your outdoor space - which take HUGE chunks of the mosquitoes and really reduces the problem. I used to live in Sweden - in forest like you - and I had open stables with horses there, and it pained me to see the horses get eaten out there, while not being able to run away - so I bought one. for a period, I emptied that machine of tons of mosquitoes every single day, but it Actually reduced the problem in and around the open barn. they have like 2-300 meter reach of attractring and then catching. It is 10 years ago and I am very sure that new machines with even greater efficiency are invented by now.
    Best Wishes, Pema from Denmark.

Consider adding a perimeter of plants that repel mosquitos. Catmint though a pain to control was found more effective than DEET, you will need to keep it isolated to keep it from taking over though. We use that along with Mint, Lemon Grass, and Sage to reduce the number of flying blood suckers in our outdoor areas.
