Never been a fan of the Clans nor their 'mechs, but Red tells their tale in a compelling manner. BattleTech, for me, is a perfect mix of technical details, drama, stompy Robotomachy, and and pure setting. You really captured the spirit of the Cat in this piece. Between the tech, history and storytelling- it’s beautifully sculpted and very successful as a research. The Cat was always a mech I loved in clan that I didn’t. Its playstyle of long range control was always a personal favorite, and I grooved with the way this machine functioned. Thank you, Professor, excellent class 🫡
I appreciate that the Nova Cat is a heavy Omnimech that _doesn't_ go 80 kph at full tilt. It's a more methodical, harder hitting platform that can stand up and slug it out instead of zipping around the outside of the battlefield and taking pot shots where the opponent can't effectively return fire.

I love the idea of the Nova Cat. I first saw it around 20years ago in Mechwarrior 4...where i was sorely disappointed. That game to this day is a reminder of how to "break" energy weapons in Battletech/Mechwarrior by excluding Double Heat Sinks. Its Prime configuration does go nova, then shuts down. The Nova Cat is truly the totem mech of Clan Nova Cat. Whilst it was inspired from the Night Gyr, it was built based on Nova Cats' debacles from Luthien & Tukayyid, to match the Spheroids' way of warfare doctrine. The Nova Cat has a lethal firepower of an assault mech in a heavy mech package that puts a Warhawk to shame. It represents the Clan's strength in fortitude perseverance with lopsided firepower & good enough mobility & decent armor. As well as represents the Clans' strength in their absolution in righting their wrongs from the past - believing that they were doing the right thing for what they thought it was the best for their Spheroid allies, only to be often misguided by a mystic vision that eventually became a self-fulfilling prophecy leading to their tragic end. In the end, even the Nova Cat Omnimech, as a totem mech for the Clan itself, imbued the legacy of what came before that was rooted from misguided sense of absolution that others would perceived it as "an intolerable betrayal punishable by death" as a ramifications the Nova Cats thought they don't deserved, even though they did prove themselves they genuinely fought against tyranny With the Spirit Cats being the descendants of the Nova Cats through their totem mechs, would they learn from their past mistakes to avoid making a self-fulfilling prophecy to become flesh?
One minor mistake at 2:08.34, Kev Rosse was not the leader of the Nova Cats in the Republic of the Sphere, he was only the Galaxy Commander of Nova Cat militia clusters in Prefecture III. The leader of all Nova Cats in the Republic of the Sphere was Juno Devalis, mentioned in one of the documents CGL/sarna editors collected after Wizkids closed up shop. I believer she/he was invented by those editors for that document specifically.
Thank you for the correction. I just tried to compile what I could based on the resources to hand, I didn't see this Juno mentioned. I also saw Kev getting his senatorial seat and just put the facts together wrong. Apologies.
@@BigRed40TECH Dude, you do not have to apologize. I love the amount of care you put into this video for my favorite factions. To be frank, the only people who know Juno Devalis even exist are me, all the other weirdo Nova Cat fans on the BT forums, you, and Phillip Lee, and everyone after me only knows about Juno because I keep bringing them up. Dark Age lore is a mess of pdfs and documents that most people don't even know exists, and Juno is from a pdf that is currently in dubious canon territory. Still I love Dark Age stuff since I got in via clix so I try to know everything about it I can. Thanks again for this great video. I learned stuff I didn't even know, like the FWL-connection with Phillip Drummond.
@@BigRed40TECH Everything Wizkids put out always had Kev Rosse as the leader, so wherever Juno Devalis cropped up, it was after they stopped producing things and was presumably a retcon.
This has always been my favorite clan. Absolutely love the Nova Cats. Between their aesthetics and amazing mechs. The sphinx is still regularly in play in my battletech circle because of one fateful headcap from a large laser lol. The nova cat mech is one id take any day over a hellstar or warhawk just because of its sheer flexibility. Direct fire is always just more glorious than otherwise. Long live the Spirit Cats.
Nova Cat configurations are strange. Either long range punch, or short range punch. Not a lot of having solid long range punch supported by short range crit seekers. How hard would it be to slap 4 ER LL into the arms and back that up with 4 SRM-6 launchers with 4 tons of SRM ammo? Or if that is too much crit space, then 2 Streak SMR6 launchers and a Snub-PPC for short range backup.
Hey Red! Have you heard of Caveman Delta? He makes AI music where the topic is Battletech... It's really good, particularly his piece on the Nova Cat clan!
I kept hearing Bears 8th Curious Ears and my mind immediately says “that’s their recon Cluster” and it made perfect sense. Might need to make a Trinary.
Hey, it's been a while for me. Took a hiatus from Battletech content for a while. Good to see another video from you. It's always good to hear a familiar voice!
It is a shame that the NCats are no longer around, they like the Smoke Jaguars were the more interesting clans. The Ghost Bear are just another Innersphere collective. Clan wolf is just writer plot armor with a wolf skin , Raven and Fox is merchant magicians who have seemingly unlimited resources and the power of money .. Jade Flacon is all but gone and HH is finished as well.

Down with the patriarchy
Everyone got their vineers?
Another Great . but long Video 🙂
I play Coyote but the Nova Cat is my favourite clan heavy alongside the Summoner
Wow...this mech is just...nasty.
Much agreed.
Is its name Miss Jackson? Hee hee! 🕴😂🤣
The greatest coup of all time
Ahhh just got to the End for the 1st time , now im sad........
Thank you.
Wooooo!
Mewoo prrr prrr!
In my sleep deprived mind, I read the thumbnail as "Not a Cat"
It's not a Cat! lol
Pro tip; Pair it with cougars so it's not targeted first.
I hope the video lived up to your expectations! I tried my best to cover all the most important beats.
I am so ready for this
I love a good energy boat!
RIP Bentley.
I HAD A VISION AND ITS FINALLY CAME TO PASS! Wonderful work as always red glad to see my favorite back stabbers get there time in the spotlight
Excellent
Did this meet your hopes and expectations? :)
@@BigRed40TECH Yes it did.
Cat scratch fever!!
let's gooo
Like the Wolverines the Cats will rise again.
In theory they kinda have, they are just Spirit Cats now.
Ah Red. I'm sorry. Animals are more special than I even think they know. Hugs.
I have fond memories of this mech constantly overheating after each alphastrike from MechWarrior 4 Vengeance
Nothing is quite as satisfying as achieving shutdown :P
@BigRed40TECH it's hilarious; the AI would fire 1 alphastrike and keep shutting down consecutively
I don't listen to AI music.
@@BigRed40TECH Missing out
@@Ownedyou Not my point of interest, so I'm not missing out.
Sad this mech wasn't in the new game
Too many years out. introduced 10 years after the start of the invasion.
Hey red, whats the name to the music before the stream starts?, ive tried using shazam, but its not telling me, please and thank you
That's just from TH-cam. It's their "Sci Fi" premier.
Thanks man, that was driving me crazy trying to figure it out😅
It is a shame that the NCats are no longer around, they like the Smoke Jaguars were the more interesting clans. The Ghost Bear are just another Innersphere collective. Clan wolf is just writer plot armor with a wolf skin , Raven and Fox is merchant magicians who have seemingly unlimited resources and the power of money .. Jade Flacon is all but gone and HH is finished as well.
Kitty! 🐱
no u
MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED WHEN I GET THESE HOURS LONG VIDEOS FROM YOU
Good job RED. Another Masterpiece and the Conch on my shoulder is applauding as well.
we are here for the nova cat supremacy... oh ...oh no
Treachery and tragedy. . .
Sorry to hear about Bentley, but 17 years is a good run, thats about 84 in people years...
Absolutely. But it's still sad all the same.
@BigRed40TECH yeah
Anyone else having issues downloading?
