I am not a huge horror reader but I recently read Certain Dark Things and liked it a lot, a really cool urban fantasy take on vampires and vampire lore. And then even more recently I real The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas. I thought the Hacienda was ok but not my favorite but I was really surprised that I like Vampires of El Norte so much, maybe because of the romance, historical setting and again a really cool take on Vampires (they are not good, the romance is not with a vampire) 😅 Maybe you will enjoy them too, as you said you like vampires. I also read Darling Rose Gold and I enjoyed it a lot, it is a thriller, not horror, and more of a domestic thriller, but the characters were so twisted and it had the dual time line, I had a lot of fun.
You need to definitely read September House I couldn’t put it down it will grip you from the very beginning! An excellent horror book for the spooky holiday! #1 horror mystery thriller I read thus far this year! 🧟♀️
I recommend “Summer of Night” by Dan Simmons. It’s about a group of kids fighting evil forces in their small midwestern town during summer break. The evil is rooted in their old Gothic style school house. Great book for Halloween! I love “The Passage”. The whole trilogy is terrific.
The Library at Mount Char is incredible! I think you’re reading that soon right? Empire of the Vampire is great! Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Boo is a good graphic novel. Seize the Night New Tales of Vampiric Horror is a book of short stories by various authors, stories are a mixed bag, but overall I enjoyed it. I’m reading Night Film by Marisha Pesel this season. I just finished Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia and it was just fine.
Body Rides by Richard Laymon, also his other books: Endless Night, Island, In the Dark...I also liked Dan Simmons' Summer of Night, that scared me lol.
I just read “The Only One Left” and loved it! I hope you enjoy it too! I also recommend Isabel Canas’s books “La Hacienda” and “Vampires of El Norte”. I found her through BOTM and both books were amazing, I loved La Hacienda a bit more though, was Mexican gothic haunted house vibes.Vampires is still Mexican gothic genre but more forbidden romance/thriller. I’m currently reading “The Stand” by Mr. King and finishing up “Hallowe’en Party” by Agatha Christie, which in my opinion, is not one of her best books. Was disappointed and expected more. Going back to Stephen King though, I’d recommend his son Joe Hill’s books too. Especially NOS4A2, which is vampires. I’ll leave it at that lol I have a huge spooky/fun Halloween book TBR for the next month, doubt I’ll get to them all but I like pulling out a bunch to work on and then save and add more over the next Halloween seasons. Happy Hauntings to you, and really look into Isabel’s books. I love her and if she does a third and I love it, she will be a spooky author auto buy for me.
omg jessie the sponsorship part was so cute 🥰 love all the poses and showcasing the leggings!!! have you ever read and the trees crept in? i listened to the audiobook for that one and it's soooo spooky!!!
Duuuuude Head Full of Ghosts! Definitely my favorite recent horror read. I hope you love it as much as I did! Not sure if you’re interested in horror comics, but I just read The Nice House on the Lake, and I definitely recommend it. A man invites friend groups from different points in his life to a weekend away. As these different groups of friends come together, they come to realize something is off about this vacation. “Let’s play a game. How do you think the world ends?”
I think you’re going to love The Weight of Blood. 5/5 for me! also, I am currently reading Bunny and also loving it. I think you would really like it too… but I haven’t read her other books… the one on your TBR sounds great as well.
I think you’ll enjoy Confessions. It gets a bit bonkers and is a fun ride. The Saturday Night Ghost Club is very light on the horror elements and more literary leaning. My favorite horror novels are probably My Best Friend’s Exorcism, You Let Me In (a pretty dark vampire novel that is also titled Let the Right One In), Devolution which is about a Sasquatch massacre, and Into the Drowning Deep which is about ferocious mermaids. One of the only horror novels that has ever scared me is I Remember You by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. It’s a wintry Icelandic ghost story that freaked me out. 😂
The Saturday Night Ghost Club is wonderful, I just listened to it last week and I highly recommend. The September House is also fantastic! The slow dread that builds and the way the hauntings play out are perfect for creepy and unsettling but not terrifying. You have some great books to choose from.
I liked Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It is a Swedish vampire story that hits a lot of the horror element s you are looking for. The audio book is really good.
Yeahhhh can't wait for you to read The Winter People, I read it as my first Jennifer McMahon and she became an auto-buy author for me after loving it so so much. I hope you have a great time with it! You have a fun TBR lined up, can't wait to hear your thoughts at the end of the month!
The September House sounds so good. I read You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight over the summer, and it's so much fun! And it does have some very meta elements to it that I thought really heightened the tension. My favorite horror novel is a tie between The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones and Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. Those both have some scenes that have just lingered in my memory for years
Omg, I've read The Passage 10 or maybe even more years ago and absolutely do not remember vampires *immediately puts it in the soon to (re)read pile :D
The "Find him where you left him dead" sounds so incredible! Need to order this NOW!!! 😳 My favourite horror novel is "Sur le seuil" from Québec author Patrick Sénécal. I don't know if it's been translated... but I had nightmarea about the book three nights in a row! 😱
Favourite horror book I have to give to the first Stephen King book I have read. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon! I read it like 20 years ago but it was so darn good! Current favourite horror book I give to "Hex" by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Read it this month and loved it. The idea is so cool and I would love it if they made a movie out of it! Looking forward to his upcoming release "November"
My favorite horror book is Red Dragon by Thomas Harris - it's the prequel (I believe, or it's just where we're introduced to Dr. Hannibal Lecter) to The Silence of the Lambs. I read it well over 20 years ago and I don't remember much from it other than it scared the crap out of me! You've got a good list here! Thank you for another great video.
This book is not a new release, but I really enjoyed From Below by Darcy Coates. It was creepy and atmospheric. Two other books I also enjoyed recently was the Vampires of El Norte and Dracul. The later two more gothic vibes.
Horror genre is something that has yet to blow me away. I've read horror books and they were clear (in terms of the narrative) but they don't scare me. I was able to read It and Carrie during night/in the dark. 🌃 The Long Walk is the only Stephen King book that blew me away so far. Thank you for sharing Carissa Orlando.
I enjoyed 'The Island' more than 'The Chain' personally so I hope you enjoy it! One of my fave psychological thriller/ horror novels is 'Intensity' by Dean Koontz - my first and only Koontz novel but it was just that, intense! I was on the edge of my seat until the end.
My favourite horror this year is my last month's read, Stranger by Taichi Yamada. It's so good and original. It's only translated to audiobook for now. Please read it. There is also an upcoming movie about it - All of Us Strangers.
Such a pretty smile by Kristi Demeester, Penpal by Dathan Auerbach, Things have gotten worse since we last spoke- Eric LaRocca, Devil’s Creek by Todd Keisling, Dear Laura by Gemma Amor, Brother by Ania Ahlborn, The grip of it by Jac Jemc, The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. So many more .. 🖤🖤🖤🖤love your channel!
What are some of the strangest horror books I've read? Feels more like long summer read, but Stephen King's Duma Key & Lisey's Story. Two slowburn reads 📚. For "proper" horror, Bram Stoker's Dracula Barnes & Noble Edition. The Passage yes! Justin Cronin! and The Strain trilogy by GDT Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan! And Mike Mignola's Hellboy graphic novel anthologies! 🎉 📖 📚! A strange older book is The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker, a garage find! And for King, his short story collection, Everything's Eventual! And Neil Gaiman's American Gods! And King's Desperation (a summer horror read).
I think the Institute is a little overrated, but I could see you really enjoying it. Firestarter is fantastic! don't watch the new movie haha, the original 1984 movie with Drew Barrymore is great.
I am not a huge horror reader but I recently read Certain Dark Things and liked it a lot, a really cool urban fantasy take on vampires and vampire lore. I just bought this book yesterday. I'm finishing a book, then diving in.
Jennifer McMahon is very underrated. She always blends so many genres so seamlessly. While the endings don't always land, the ride is always worth it.
Ghost Story by Peter Straub might be right up your alley.
You need to definitely read September House I couldn’t put it down it will grip you from the very beginning! An excellent horror book for the spooky holiday! #1 horror mystery thriller I read thus far this year!

I second "Summer of Night" ! It was so atmospheric and creepy.

Body Rides by Richard Laymon, also his other books: Endless Night, Island, In the Dark...I also liked Dan Simmons' Summer of Night, that scared me lol.
Some horror books I enjoyed which have haunted houses in them:
Gallows Hill by Darcy Coates
Bag of Bones by Stephen King
'Salem's Lot by Stephen King
I just read “The Only One Left” and loved it! I hope you enjoy it too! I also recommend Isabel Canas’s books “La Hacienda” and “Vampires of El Norte”. I loved Near the Bone by Christina Henry. A genuinely scary wilderness monster horror.
I think you’re going to love The Weight of Blood. 5/5 for me! also, I am currently reading Bunny and also loving it. I think you would really like it too… but I haven’t read her other books… the one on your TBR sounds great as well.

Also… you will love that Riley Sager book and you hooked me with Find Him Where You Left Him Dead!
The September House sounds so good. I read You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight over the summer, and it's so much fun! I read Firestarter this month and loved it!
I'm excited for your thoughts on all of these, especially The Weight of Blood!! I just adore Tiffany D Jackson!
This book is not a new release, but I really enjoyed From Below by Darcy Coates. It was creepy and atmospheric. Two other books I also enjoyed recently was the Vampires of El Norte and Dracul. The later two more gothic vibes.
I rated 'The Passage' 2 star-ish. It was initially very good but then I found it messed up. I hope you liked it more than I did!

The original Fire Starter movie starred Drew Barrymore as the little girl. I saw it in the theater - YES, I'm that old!
Me too 🤗
The Only One Left is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite Riley Sager book!
My Heart Is A Chainsaw is a fantastic first SGJ book to read!
I really loved The Only One Left! I always recommend it when people want a fast paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I love Dean Koontz. I read modern horror books and they are not scary, back in the day, they did horror right.
Well my favorite is your favorite haha IMAGINARY FRIEND!!! Have you read any Zoje Stage? I recommend Baby Teeth and Mothered
Firestarter the movie is actually really good. Its old school, but still fun. It stars Drew Barrymore when she was young.
The Ruins by Scott Smith. Love both the book and the movie!
Confessions is great! there's a bombshell in almost every chapter lol
My favourite horror this year is my last month's read, Stranger by Taichi Yamada. It's so good and original. It's only translated to audiobook for now. Please read it. There is also an upcoming movie about it - All of Us Strangers.

I absolutely enjoyed the passage I really should finish the trilogy I have read the second book

Great list! 12 nights at rotter house was a food one not sure of the authors name
I love Sign Here!!
i liked Chasing the Boogeyman. And it will have a sequel soon named Becomming the Boogeyman
I'm planning on reading your not supposed to die tonight in October
House on Needless Street and Hidden Pictures.
You need to read Mexican Gothic
I’ve read that one! I unfortunately just found it okay 😩 I’m not a huge body horror fan!
Ehhh. The Shadows was a little of a let down for me.
The Island was super disappointing...
