-- Nice build for the time. On a scale from one to ten of budget versus ultra expensive builds, this is probably about a 5.5 ... 10 being absurdly expensive (considering a year a go). I'm going to go on the assumption that you wanted a power efficient, cool running, stable, budget build, BUT that would go pretty darn good at 4k for a good long while, and absolutely shred at something like 1080 (1k). Selecting the 5700x over the 5600, what are you a college student? Need a little more multi-tasking. Gaming and work/school? Would make sense.
I see the Kingston NVME in there too. But even back then I think 240gb is way too small for the NVME considering price point even back then. Weighing price you break almost even (unless you already own the SSDs) and your performance is much higher.
Good choice on RAM but I don't think there's enough of it in the system. Also 1 year ago, why not the B550 chipset? Was the price that different back then. And why single channel memory? Makes conceivable sense to me.
I wonder between the chipset/RAM quantity if you're not building this for someone else now, that is really going to run 1080 and needs room to grow in the future. AM4 now, in 2024 still is not a bad choice for budget systems. I question the B450 chipset over the 550 is all. That makes me wonder: did you already have this Mobo and some of the parts? This is not a fresh build, but a significant upgrade?
Your case looks budget, but so far, quality RAM, GPU, MOBO, CPU and that's priority. Looking forward to seeing the PSU.
Your CPU cooler. UGH! You might not have known this back then. But MSI had serious clogging problems, especially with those 240s. Bacterial growth would clog the heat exchanger fins in the block. You'd know by now if this happened to you. Worse yet MSI really dragged their feet on helping customers out. Also, my opinion, but I think you really want to put that 240 in the case first. Assuming it works the way it should, that's more than enough for a 5700x. Also, need to rub that CPU with some rubbing alcohol and the surface of the water block. Putting thermal paste on should be the last thing you do, right before installing the block (eliminates dust and skin particles sticking in there). But I have an embarrassing cooler in a different way on my daughters rig as well.
Not a bad rig, or assembly. Things I would have done different, but hey. I'm very interested to know who you built it for, future plans, what you expect it to do now and at what level.
My daughters rig (similar - my way - build) Incidentally: This was about a year ago as well.
For my daughters computer I used: CPU: AMD 5700x, and I have that exact board (but B550), but better cooling with the ROC Strix, so I took it back and swapped for that.
GPU: Gigabyte EAGLE OC 3060ti, because I knew overclocked more, I could put up (and I've even beaten it) 3070 performance OC'd.
Storage: Samsung 980 pro 2tb NVME with a ACIDALIE passive heatsink (those things are cheap and they really work)
PASTE & PADS: All heatsinks/gpu/cpu use Kryonaught Thermal Grizzly Paste and Gelid thermal pads.
RAM: GSkill Trident Z Neo 2x16gig
CASE: Thermalright Core P3 - Overkill but the kids wanted something they think looks better than my rigs.
CPU COOLER: Arctic Freezer II 420 AIO - as I said: embarrassing in that it is EXTREMELY OVERKILL for this processor. But there's several reasons for it. It looks really good in the case style, you don't see them everyday, they're some of the best out there, it probably will be useful in another system down the road. And MOST IMPORTANT, my daughters had to have bigger fans in their computer than daddy.
POWER SUPPLY: Corsair 850 Gold. Overkill but could be useful in the future if this becomes a file server down the road.
I'll spare you my main rig specs, but it has a 4090 and ended up costing me almost 7 thousand dollars.
Dont daisy chain your GPU power connectors, each 6 pin connector should have its own cable to ensure safe power delivery.
Are you kidding me? Your BIOS clearly shows you're running a Ryzen 5 3600 not a 5700X at 20:40

Hi - I want some advice please... I'll be posting this on a few sites... I have a MSI Tomahawk Max II, 5600X, 32GB DDR 4... Now I'm looking to fill the slots. So - My 1050Ti - Old but... erm... working... fills two, and the one next door to the GFX will get very hot and also heat up the GFX card... SO... I'm looking at the other slots and thinking what I can use them for? That other long one looks tasty - but I have no interest in dual graphics... what else can I use that for?

There is a bad way to apply thermal paste on cpu because remember there a space between socket and CPU to the air can move too.

You will need to have at least F10 BIOS to boot the 5800X3D, and a graphics card

@@1ku54 I mean, you should be able to. As long as the Mobo you have supports the BIOS flash. I do question why you're looking for a 5800 with that motherboard though, you probably only need a 5700 max? Just be wary of any overclocking.
