      I'm so jealous. I need to go on vacation for one month. Laos is my top destination. I like the amazing natural views, historical sites, and the French colonial architecture town of Luang Prabang and hot air Balloon ride in Vang Vieng. The balloon ride company is own by a French business man.

    Thanks Gabi. Lao has given me so many wonderful memories from my previous rides there. It has changed so much over the years and like you mentioned, it is a bit bittersweet. On my first visit in 2001-02 Vientiane was a small town and the road to the arch was a literally a dirt road. On my last trip in 2017 it had already expanded a great deal. From the looks of things now, it is transforming even more. i do have concerns about what I call economic colonialism where a country becomes more or less property of the "investing" country. I am happy for the Lao people in terms of quality of life improvements, but I fear some of the methods are somewhat ham handed. Sensitivity towards local values requires nuance, which can be lacking in exchange for fast and profitable development. Enough of the rant. Lao and the people are so lovely and that is where my fondest memories reside. The waving kids are so delightful, at the end of the day my arm is tired and the smile on my face has taken on a permanent presence. I am excited about going back again next month, at 73 it may be my last opportunity to soak up all the amazing beauty, energy and genuine spiritual nature of this wonderful country.

    Thank you Gabi! Your beautiful video brought back great memories of traveling through Laos. I really appreciate the variety of views by riding, eating, walking, talking, and the overhead scenery from the drone. Musical accompaniment is spot on too. It’s apparent that a lot of effort goes into your videos. Nice work! 😊

      The journey is only amazing if you go visit the country in person. You see it with your own eyes. I want to visit the small town of Luang Prabang. It has natural views, historical sites, and French architecture. Laos was a French colony in the year 1886.

    Laos has definitely become somewhere on my bucket list. It's very mixed emotions about the development, we saw Thailand in 2012 and a couple years ago and the difference was crazy (and it was already a fairly developed country!) Unfortunately it won't be long before their is a 7-11 or family mart on every corner and a maccas in Laos. It's good for the economy but like you say it takes away that authenticity of a country and its original heritage feel, like Laos seems to currently still mostly have compared to say Thailand or Philippines.

    • @newgabe09
      @newgabe09 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Luang Prabang in Laois lovely. UNESCO heritage protected so although there are lots of excellent restaurants/guesthouses it's very tastefully done with a lot of local 'normal' as well. Definitely no 7/11s.

      @JK-qv5wm ปีที่แล้ว

      You talk from a privileged point of view, maybe from a first world's white man's point of view. A country don't need to stay "authentic" just to satisfy your privileged taste.

    Lao is a landlocked country that had the most bombs dropped by the American!!! I am happy to see this country growing and modernizing like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia with the help of Chinese investments. They have HSR train and highway now!!! We don't even have HSR in USA!! I was in Luang Prabang in December and I love the easy life style there. Or maybe we as tourists have money to travel and enjoy other cultural. It's good to see poor country like Lao and Cambodia modernized to have a better future! I am tired of reading comments about a poor country improving or changing for better. These new growth are in new areas of the city or a new business in old run down building. They still have the old areas(poor neighborhood) to enjoy. I live in the US for 50 years and I see growth in my city. I don't see anyone complaining about new clean place neighborhood!! I have friends from Laos that have new business or joint venture with other countries to make more money from the new Lao. It better for the people.

    The development of these countries is often from China as we saw in Cambodia. It can be a good thing if it goes not take away the individual characteristics of these beautiful countries but often they completely change and owe a huge debt to China!!
