Loved these games. The squad combat is what set it apart from the big franchise like COD and Medal of Honor. It had a great story and you really cared about your soldiers, because if they got killed it was probably because of a bad choice that you made 😂. You really felt like a commander! Without doubt the best second world war fps I've ever played. The characters were superbly well written and believable. The graphics for the time were gorgeous. The A.I both enemy and friendly was excellent. And the gameplay and firefight are world class. Battles were, inaccurate, chaotic, visceral and incredibly intense. First shooter I've ever played on a ps2. This game got me into to milsims and turned into a history nut. I remember my dad gave me and my brother a ps2 he got from a friend to give to us. My parents didn't know about the age rating at the time and didn't lets us watch anything too violent. But this game was deep in the stack and i remember loading it up on the living room tv early in the morning, and had a real eye opening moment to what war was. That prologue mission was probably one of the most immersive experiences of any game I've played period. Went through so many emotions and adrenaline spikes i still remember my young hands were sweating lol. I've played the hole series on several consoles they really should bring it back such an underrated gem.
I enjoyed the hell out of this game. It was way ahead for its time. It wasn’t hordes of enemies coming at you it was 8 maybe 10 Germans and that was it, that was the mission. It wasn’t run and gun it was pretty damn realistic especially for a game set in nazi occupied Normandy. It reminded me a lot of saving private Ryan but instead of saving one man you’re saving your entire squad. The AI in this game was superb for its time. A single player squad based game that I would still recommend to any fps gamer even today. The soundtrack was excellent! It was blended so very well with the game and it sounds exactly like something pulled from the WW2 era. That main theme was something else! I would start the game and just let it sit at the start menu. This game was just all around well designed and it truly shows how hard gearbox worked on it. It shows the true bloody violence that was WW2 and I respect the hell out of that. To date, WW2 is still the deadliest conflict in human history. At the time this came out you didn’t see much gore in do’s games until this came along. It showed what war really is, a living hell.. Much respect to the veterans of WW2 and the soldiers that didn’t get that ticket home. You sacrificed so much but for the greatest cause in history. You truly were the basest of the bad. And to the German soldiers who were forced to fight or be killed by its radical government, you are also not forgotten, you weren’t all nazis, you weren’t all bad men. You were doing what you had too, doing what you were told and that’s not your fault. You had families just like every other soldier in WW2.
what i love about first BiA games is the mix between FPS and RTS, the RTS element is really simple and intuative, in this game you're not the doom guy who runs and shoot, you are the mind of the squad, providing tactics and flanks to ensure victory for you and your brothers.
