Chicago Wendell Phillips beat the Benton Rangers 54-47 to win the 2A State Championship. Phillips was led juniors Phoenix Childs and EJ Horton who had identical stats of 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Phillips scored early and got as big of a lead as 11-4 in the first and led 14-10 after one.
In the 2nd Rangers picked up the offense as they had a 24-23 lead, but the Wildcats regained the lead before the half at 27-24 after the Elijah Harris buzzerbeating layup.
In the 3rd Phillips had a 34-28 lead, but Benton pulled within 37-36 after 3.
In the 4th Phillips up on a 12-2 run including a slam by EJ Horton that electrified the Wildcats crowd. Benton tried making a rally pulling within 52-47, but Wendell Phillips hold on to win their first state championship since 1975.
