Saturday Autumn morning (around 8 o'clock), cold and foggy weather outside, no one outside, in my bed and playing SH1... So clearly remember church scene and this soundtrack. It looked like time stopped. Wow, it was really great feeling. Wish all games would leave great memories.

Ran a D&D session where my party opened a door in a mysterious lab conducting horrific experiments and used a bunch of Silent Hill tracks for it. They opened the door and found themselves in the foggy town, this was one of my favorite tracks to use. None of them had any idea what the Silent Hill series was, but i could tell that they were terrified.
For those who care to know, the sound used here is a sample from AMG Terminalhead: Underfire Volume 2. Specifically the WAV file "Pads & Sweeps 08." Yamaoka took this sample and put it on his synth and came up with the melody you hear here.

I bought original copies of the first 3 games (which costed me over $350) just based of the music. Played though the first game and instead of immediately moving on to 2 right away like I planned to, I kept playing this one over and over until I got all the endings. I'm not much of a horror game fan but, I was shocked by how much I ended up enjoying this over 2 decade old game. Every playthough, when meeting Dahlia for the first time, I spend a little extra time in the church just so I can enjoy this music. To anyone who hasn't experienced the original Silent hill, It absolutely holds up. Sure the voice acting isn't the greatest and the tank controls can take a minute to get used to, but the PS1 graphics actually help the overall feel a lot. I'm gonna play through 2 soon and then 3 after that. I can't wait to sink even more hours into them.
Yep, I love SH1 - it's my personal favourite of the series. It's so replayable and I've played it so much that starting a playthrough I can just let my muscle memory take over, atleast for 75% of the game. But I will never forget my first playthrough, exploring the town for the first time and experiencing the emotions of loneliness, anxiety, fear and confusion the first time playing it. It's so good. SH2 was also incredible and objectively the best. I just find SH1 my personal favourite.
I just finished a front to back playthrough/deep lore stream of Silent Hill 1 yesterday. While preparing my notes. I reheard to this song after some time and it instantly became quite possibly my favorite Akira Yamaoka song. Truly brilliant work done by him and all the following games he did.
@jose miranda it deserves a remake more than sh2 because the PS1 visuals are kind of dated, whereas the PS2 visuals of sh2 and sh3 still hold up pretty well today. Also it only release in the PS1 making it very and accessible for people who don't know how to emulate PS1 games. Plus the Xbox version of sh2 is really cheap and it's backwards compatible so it's way more accessible than sh1. Sorry for the essay it was just something I was thinking of.

one late night, while my family was driving on a long and dark country highway, this HUGEEE dense fog fell on us. and where i live, the only kind of fog we get are the tiny ones. the fog that only goes up to your feet and you can still see. this covered up EVERYTHING. it almost looked like we were in a dark void. i was so happy. because it was the first time i was in an ACTUAL MIST. every time i listen to this song, i think of that moment. in my restless dreams, i see that mist.
the small village i used to live in had three churches in it. religious events were common, and it was pretty much everywhere. when i went to visit it this year after not seeing it in a long time, i put this music on and it felt ethereal. it helped that it was foggy at the time, too.

the small village i used to live in had three churches in it. religious events were common, and it was pretty much everywhere. when i went to visit it this year after not seeing it in a long time, i put this music on and it felt ethereal. it helped that it was foggy at the time, too.

I may not know much about silent hill, but when I came across this video, I could you not it made me want to buy the game badly.
The second and third is on sale for £6 on Xbox rn. Currently playing them for the first time
@@gemxx6248 keep in mind that the HD collection on Xbox is not a great way to experience the games. Check online for the best way of playing them.
