Teddy, this segment, to me, is the best you have done with Kevin. First, the mutual respect and genuine friendship between you two really shines through. Second, rest assured, your work, while perhaps in some respects resonates with a younger demographic, truly appeals, as well, to watch enthusiasts in my age class of 60+. Why? Because your content is alive with countless fresh topics and perspectives, slants that are not age restricted. Finally, I found the economics discussed in this presentation highly-informative and stimulating. While Kevin is obviously quite attuned to business dynamics, as someone who has watched your videos from the beginning, your ability to articulate your views on various aspects of the business of watches has grown in both breadth and depth. Thank you again for another fine presentation. All my best.

I agree. While I've appreciated and enjoyed the previous videos with you two, it has seemed to me that Kevin is typically, subtly, jostling against the young lion who is clearly an expert in the history and the current trends of watchmaking. Even though the denim jacket comes off as contrived, Kevin seems more relaxed and authentic here than in any previous session with these two.
As always, an informative and entertaining presentation.

I am a 16 year old and Teddy got me absolutelly obsessed with watches. In just a few months i learned SO MUCH about watches and recently i bought my first ever mechanical watch, a Seiko 5 snk361, an older Seiko 5, with the old logo and a beautifull dial for the money ($100). I love everything about it, it is just so mesmerising to look at a mechanical watch and i wear mine absolutely everywhere, to school, to town, at home, the only time i dont use it basically when i sleep or when i shower. Thank you Teddy.

That depends. What if you are given the opportunity to buy a 41mm Sub of a Ceramic Daytona at retail? If you take out a 100% loan to buy that watch at 8% interest, you are going to make money if you sell it next day. Granted, it's pure hypothetical.

Kevin's comments on never financing a watch is spot on . I've collected for a long time and have acquired some really nice peices and have always paid up front for them . For many years I had to save in some cases for a few years in my own separate fund just to buy a specific watch . I always made sure my financial house was in order first and always family first .

The pandemic got me into watch collecting. First it was a New Yorker article, which led me to Hodinkee, to TGV, to Teddy and all this content on TH-cam. The pandemic did wonders for watches, meme stocks, crypto, art and all sorts of other asset classes. But I really did appreciate all this extra time to learn about the artisans of watchmaking.

If I bought watches with the idea I need to make money on them, I would miss out on a lot of great watches. As a collector, I will ONLY buy a watch I love. The very second I worry about the resale value of a watch I like, and don't buy it cause I'm worried about it, it will kill my love for collecting. and it would ruin the hobby for me.

I've been into watches around 10 years now. For me it was the first time I saw a mechanical watch. I was born in the 90's so growing up around technology which as it advanced left me jaded. Then I see an old watch from the 60's that runs on nothing but cogs and gears. It absolutely captivated me. I now run a small side business of buying broken vintage watches then repairing and reselling them. As a result of this my personal collection now includes 2 Tudor Oysters, A Cartier Tank, 2 Tag Heuers and many others! As Kevin says, never get into debt for a watch. It's taken me 10 years but anyone can do it.

    Dear Teddy and Kevin,
I hope this message finds you both well. I'm reaching out to express the sheer delight I've experienced while tuning into your TH-cam channel. Believe me when I say that for the first time, I've been so engrossed that I've watched an entire video from start to finish without skipping a beat. The last time I felt such enthusiasm and attachment to a show was with Topgear during the Jeremy Clarkson era. The camaraderie and organic chemistry he shared with his co-hosts was unmatched - until I stumbled upon your show.
Teddy, I'll admit I wasn't familiar with you before, but I've quickly become a fan of your channel. Your passion, expertise, and genuine love for watches shine through in every episode. And, Teddy, just a little observation (all in good fun!): I've noticed when you're with Kevin, sometimes it feels like you're tiptoeing a bit, perhaps a tad intimidated? You're such a dynamo on your own channel! Don't let Mr. Shark Tank's aura throw you off. Go on, push his buttons every now and then. We'd love to see it! 😉
Kevin, most of us recognize you from Shark Tank, and to be frank, I wasn't always a fan of your on-screen persona there. It felt a bit too arrogant and unyielding at times. However, witnessing the more vulnerable and authentic side of you on this channel, discussing and marveling over watches, has entirely shifted my perspective. It's heartwarming to see you as just another watch lover, much like myself.
The duo you've formed is nothing short of electrifying. After a long day at work, I've now found myself eagerly dumping my daily relaxation habits just to immerse myself in your episodes. Even in a domain I thought I knew extensively, you both manage to bring fresh insights, introduce lesser-known brands, and spar energetically over horological masterpieces. The authenticity is palpable - it's evident this isn't some scripted endeavor but a true passion project.
And this brings me to my earnest suggestion: Your show has the potential to become the 'Topgear' for watches. Have you considered taking it a notch higher? Platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime could be the perfect stage to amplify your reach and showcase the intricate world of watches to an even broader audience. A dedicated series, focusing not only on the rare, high-end pieces but also on affordable, yet spectacular mechanical watches, would be a dream come true for enthusiasts like me.
Of course, I sincerely hope that irrespective of the path you choose, your episodes continue to grace TH-cam, offering free access to horological wonders for many.
Thank you for the joy, education, and camaraderie you bring with each video. Here's hoping you'll consider my suggestion and take the watch world by storm, even more than you already have!
    Warm regards,

I bought a VC 4500V in rose gold from the boutique for $54.5K, watched it hit $140K and held it because I love this watch and it took me 2 years to get one, which is not over 5 years... so do I care that it's "down" to $90-95K now? not one bit... it can dip to $60K and I'll still keep it.. I have no desire to invest in watches, and BTW, VC has a blockchain certificate now.. my watch's authenticity, and it's entire history now is digital...

To Kevin’s point early in the video, more often than not if I want the time…..I look at my cell phone. Watches to me are essentially a combo of jewelry and art. I love looking at my watches!

What a great conversation. Two thoughts - great one from Kevin - not to buy a watch if you can not afford it. Two - the reason why at the begging of the pandemics the supply of watches was smaller. Isn’t that at least partially due to the fact, that so many brands rely on parts from Asia?

I love the Mr wonderful answer to the finance question. Since watching this channel I've always aspired to own a dive watch. I can't afford the submariners or even the tudor black bays of the world. Hell to buy a tissot sea star is stretching my budget. But I recently acquired a casio duro. I've never admired a watch so much in my life. A gift to myself that I will always cherish.

Your time piece discussion was very interesting; however, a basic premise regarding our relationship with it, was missing. Humans are the only creatures on the planet that are aware of time, and what it means. With each second moving by, we move closer to our death, which is why a watch is so important. When you look at your watch to see more than just the time,: you are also looking at your life moving forward. I argue that a beautiful watch should be what is on the wrist. Time, life, is a valuable gift. My life, your life, are an amazing thing. Remember the greatest give you can give another person is your time. Having a beautiful time piece on your wrist tells others that you value time; that you value your life, and that you value others. I think it's great that you are helping people learn how they can have a time piece on their wrist, whether expensive, or inexpensive, that can make them feel good their life as each second of it ticks forward.

Treat yourself to “Reflections of a watchmaker” by George Daniels. The last great watchmaker and the inventor of the co-axial escapement used in most Omega watches today. That book will give you a great understanding of what it takes to make amazing watches.
