Hi, Thanks for Hanging Out. In this video we start the demo of the Deck, ready to replace it and extend it while we're at it. We discovered that the structure under the deck was too rotted to use and worse, all the veranda posts have rusted off and rotted at the bottom too. Time to break out the jackhammer and get this back to new again 👍! Thanks for watching!
Did you paint the bottom of the posts ? Main reason the deck failed was it was upside down. The grooves are supposed to go down so air can circulate in top of the bearers. None of the timber looked treated but I might be wrong. Also had a Labrador that used to run around like a mad thing. Looking forward to the next episode. New Zealand 🇳🇿 signing off.
Hi Darryl, Yes the bottom of posts are now painted (I've since started the deck rebuild). You're correct on the deck being upside down, we inherited this from the previous owner 😒 and rest assured it will go back with the reeded side down. This is very old (about 35 years) and it was treated, once you cut into it you could see a faint green tinge of the CCA that would have been used. Labs are great aren't they, she's fun to have around. Thanks for watching from across the ditch, cheers. 😀
