One tip I didn't mention in the video: pay attention to the frequency spectrum. Don't crowd certain frequency groups (lows, low-mids) with multiple instruments that predominantly live in that register. Otherwise, things will sound pretty muddy. Also, you can carve frequencies away to make room for other instruments in the mixing stage. :)
I have a similar process where i literally only work on the songwriting process and then when i feel its done i move into a rough arrangement and then add in all that little ear candy and effects. great video. there are not enough arrangement videos on TH-cam
Working on two dimension at the same time is what I try to do everytime and I feel overwhelmed and abandon or ship something I'm not proud of. Thank you very much for these precious tips, which are very practical. I needed this! :D
2:07 haha. I do same for years and years. But the buildup depends on what specific composition development technique you decide to use. I.e. melody first, bass line first or perhaps a sample inspiration. 5:48 btw thanks for that book recommendation. Already ordered it.
@@composercode yeah. It's fun. I find it super convenient and quick. I hate thinking about key signatures and time signatures, I sing it, NOT FORGET IT most importantly, arrange it after if need be. Got a nice quality recorder on the phone that has a quick widget access.
Hi Matt! Just came from your blog post on this and it was EXTREMELY valuable. I was able to pick up a lot of things to make my process more structured and efficient. That vertical and horizontal arrangement tip was great!
Nice reminder. I’ve been flooded with work, but managed to catch up on some *me* time. I really enjoy your video/teaching style. Thanks for the work you put out.
Ok I first want to say great job on the videos. I sadly couldn’t be there live but I watch them when I can. Second I want to say that thanks to you I have officially became a full time composer and everything that I have learned in this profession is from your videos. And for that I thank you! I have learned how to effectively write music for different styles and genres as well as 8- bit music which is still a little difficult however I am learning and improving. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your videos

Awesome!!
It’s actually criminal how underviewed your videos are. TH-cam does not deserve you. 😭
Agreed!
Thank you so much!
Awesome content! Thanks for sharing! Have a great day
Thank you! You too!
Thanks very much for you insights. Shit gets heavy on the grid when I have no aim or set priority to write music. You game me some good nuggets.
Yes it does, I feel that. 🤝
Really enjoyed your takes and you convey them well. Working through the rest of your videos!
Awesome, thank you!
All the best and Good luck with your Channel.
