    We were recently in the town of Rosemont Illinois having lunch at the nearby Subway. As we were feasting on our sub sandwiches, we happened to notice DONALD E STEPHENS MUSEUM OF HUMMELS. The name of the establishment piqued our curiosity. We thought to ourselves "What do you think DONALD E STEPHENS MUSEUM OF HUMMELS is exactly?" At the time, none of us knew what a Hummel was. The answer was just a quick google search away. Unfortunately, DONALD E STEPHENS MUSEUM OF HUMMELS was closed at the time we were there. However, we were delighted to find your video on TH-cam. There truly is a video of everything these days. Thank you for posting this video on DONALD E STEPHENS MUSEUM OF HUMMELS. Maybe someday our family will take a trip to DONALD E STEPHENS MUSEUM OF HUMMELS.

    Reminds me of my Mom & my aunts, as they loved Hummel. I had no idea they had such a variety of figurines and they're just beautiful. German craftsmanship and quality can't be beat.

    Had no idea such a place existed - I grew up with hummels as decorations and recognized several of the classic figures. Thanks for sharing and keep exploring!

    Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful trip to the museum. I think you might also be fascinated by the creator of the Hummels-
    Maria Innocentia Hummel (
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Innocentia_Hummel). Hitler hated her work - her images of children did not reflect his ideal childhood- but she saved the lives of her religious community during world war 2 by continuing her work, for which there was a market. Hitler took half the money she made but the rest she used to keep the sisters from starving. She was a true hero I think. I think the real reason her figures are so popular is because she was so caring; her spirit comes through. The fact that American soldiers could leave Germany after the war with the little figures based on her art was a wonderful way to spread that spirit. Thanks again for taking us all on the trip with you, and continuing to spread that spirit.

    I haven't ever been a Hummel fan, but I hadn't ever seen the Disney collection or figures like the tank and those huge eagles. Those I could collect. Mayor Stephens had an amazing collection. I wonder how he displayed them all in his home.

      That's a good question! I know he moved the collection from his home to the museum in 1986, but before that I don't know.

    You guys always go to the most interesting places! In a world of mass produced ceramics it was really nice to stop and appreciate the authenticity of Hummels. Thanks for taking us along. Did they happen to mention how much he spent (on them) compared to how much they are worth now? As a collector I am always interested in that aspect :)

      They didn't say anything about the price of purchase vs. the value of them now. I would imagine some of the pieces are worth quite a bit. He had some there that were numbered #1. 😲. There were a few he had multiples of that were numbered 1 thru 20! I can't even imagine the value of those! 😉♥️☮️

    My husband did some work in Rosemont, Illinois last year... I asked him why he didn't go to the Hummel museum....he said "are you kidding me, It was 50 below zero and the buses were going around picking up homeless people". I can't even imagine anything that cold. That's a neat place.

    • @wheretheheckarethealbans
      @wheretheheckarethealbans  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember that! That was during the "Polar Vortex" last year. It was SO bad and SO cold! ACTUAL temps were -30 below 0. Wind chills were -60! That was absolutely crazy!!!

    I had no idea Hummel made Disney figures. It was interesting that he collected multiples. Was this collection in his home prior to creating the museum? Very impressive.

    • @wheretheheckarethealbans

      It was in his home until 1986. That's when they moved it all to the museum. He died in 2007. He added to the collection until he passed away.

      So sorry. I'm not Spielberg. LOL! This was filmed a few years ago when we were just getting started. Hopefully I've improved on my camera work a bit since then. My goal was just to show people that this place exists. If I had spent time looking at each individual piece to catch the true craftsmanship of them all, this vlog would have been 10 hours long. Best I can tell you to do at this point is to pause the video and look at the different pieces. Sorry we made you dizzy. 😉♥️☮️
