George Jones was a good friend and mentor to Vince Gill. That is why this is effecting Vince so much. This performance is so hard to keep a dry eye through. The strength of Patty to take over when she knew Vince was struggling was great to see. This guitar solo in the middle really isn't a part of the song, it was just Vince regaining his composure and letting his guitar speak for him, it was beautiful.

One show Patty’s guitar player had something happen so Vince stepped in and played guitar for her during her set then came out and played his set. Over the last few years Vince has been playing guitar for the Eagles.

George had struggled with alcohol and drugs for several years before he became a Christian and sobered up, and Vince had a half-brother who had struggled with alcohol and drugs and died in 1993 in his 50s of a massive heart attack. In fact, because George's wife was a Christian and helped him and loved him all through the struggles, George - in a prayer one night - told God that if God would help him he would give up the vices - and he did. According to George's wife, when George died, he had been in the hospital for five days, of which George had been in a comma the last three. George had just laid with his eyes closed and never said a word.
