I’d say for returning players first have them learn the mechanics of fusion, Scyro, Xyz, pen, Link in that order. Then after that give them the basic understanding of card effects and once per turn
@@mohammedhussain6749 I would argue fusion synchro and xyz before link namely because those 3 methods are not restricted by Extra monster zone. Link requires you to go into specifics about that zone, which would be necessary to then move into pendulums
My current deck revolves around summoning, “The last warrior of another world.” It somehow evolved into stealing my opponents monsters with super poly to fusion summon a ton of different monsters.
This is a true story: I'm a high school kid who enjoys his Yu-Gi-Oh and last year I was obsessed with D/Ds (I still think they're awesome and need more love) and I have a few friends that I played with. One day my friend turns to me and looks me in the eye and says "I'm gonna make a Rocket deck". Now this guy was the one who always had the top tier meta deck and considering how I was the only kid who could deal with his Trickstar BULL***T I said "Hey sounds cool". So he then proceeded to buy three of the rocket revolt structure deck and makes a surprisingly decent deck from it along with a few handtraps he had. It was an enjoyable period of time. Now I should mention that not long after this, people started realising the trauma that was guardragon. Fortunately they were too pricy for him so we were safe. UNTIL he discovered a freshman who had the playset of all 3 and he conned the poor kid into trading them. It was a traumatic week. The reason I say week is because the next week, the gods smiled on me and nerfed the sh*t out of them in the ban list and I bullied my friend's ass into the floor for putting me through that.
My first packs got me FIREWALL Under 10 minutes and I had 4Link monsters I could actually play and a few more cards XD Having lost my old Extra Deck after moving, that helped A LOT to get back in gear!
10:28 - That one was based on a guide I wrote for returning players a few years back. The section on Xyz Monsters starts with a picture of XYZ - Dragon Cannon crossed out and going "NO, NO, NOT _THOSE_ MONSTERS!" Nice to see that joke aged well. XD

@@joshuawenninger6439 Absolutely right. Like pot of desires is seriously a piece of shit and is totally unplayable in any combo deck. Also Cardcar D is essentially a pot of greed with the additional effect that you can't normal summon on the turn you play it and is not anywhere on the banlist and can be played at 3 copies. So actually it's you can't normal summon, special summon or attack on the turn you play this card but it's still better than desires if you have good trap support.
@@ivanpaijolin9128 You can activate monster effects equal to the number of different summoning mechanics. For example you control 1 link and 1 xyz monster that means you can activate 2 monster effects, but if you control lets say 2 synchro monsters you can only activate 1 monster effect. Also the total number of monster effects you can activate under boarder per turn is 6.(If you control 1,ritual,1 fusion, 1 syncro,1 xyz, 1 pendelum,1 link). So the most decks can only activate 1-2 monster effects per turn (Link and xyz/synchro).

I stopped after GX....mainly because my stepdad toss all my yugioh card, but kept my baseball cards. Im not even into baseball, yet i had baseball cards
That ban list one actually happened to me when my tournament at my college this was when card of safe return was legal and dark worlds were still using it I believe in the middle of the synchro era

I remember I got one of my friends in highschool into Yugioh and we bought some cards from a shop then went to play with some people at the library. I bought like several packs and he only bought one. Legit just one. I am sitting there pulling absolute garbage. He hits me with the, "Is this good¿" shows me what it is and it was a fucking card car d secret rare back when it first came out. I went from being tight he pulled that to being his bodyguard because everyone was trying to trade with him for that and they were trying to rip him off since he was new to the game. One of my favorite Yugioh memories of all time.
pretty sure its the scene when yugi plays exodia from episode 1, the red and the blue being the lifts they were in. Idk why he and us should hate ourselves for knowing though.
7:34 almost had this happen once. Was when pantheism of the monarchs was new and not limited yet. Bought 2 of the structure deck, looked at it an went "YEA THATS GETTING NERFED" and traded the second one off to a dude who was thrilled to get his 3rd one. Not even two weeks later it was cut to one.
8:01 me with trickstar. I fell in love with the deck when some guy beat me at locals with it back in gouki format so i bought the trickstar core and scapegoats and things. Then scapegoat and light stage got limited.
That last meme was me when I turned up to locals with a Gravekeeper's Endymion deck. I got trashed, mostly because I barely had any cards that were effective, the rest because I was a bumbling buffoon
6:02 Whoever made this meme did a great job with sticking to the original context of the show. Every time I see this meme, people make it look like things are progressively worse, but this fits the scene perfectly!
I literally started like 5 months ago my friend taught me the basics in 2 days I found the good yugitubers (obviously including Cimoooooooo) and found about all the hidden rulings and well play it well but I prefer two rouge decks atm they are fun but don't always win
Wow, I'd never have guessed that, but I think you're right. I was trying to think of specific cards like a blue warrior with a shield and a big rock meteor thing on the right. Yugi being a red square isn't a great depiction.
7:06 no joke, this is how one of my friends stopped playing yugioh and switched to magic. There was a set that had a ghost rare he wanted so he bought an entire box and didn't get it, only for our mutual friend to pull it in a single pack.
10:28 LMAO. I feel that one. When I was getting back into the game 2 years ago. I didn't know what Xyz monsters were. I got a random card lot on amazon and got a Barrage Blast. Read that card from the perspective of someone who thought it was talking about XYZ-Dragon Cannon.
Yugioh is like war: Ever evolving. For example, trap cards are like fortifications, but as time goes on, trap cards are rarely used, just as how fortifications are rarely used nowadays.
I felt the "have to pay for hand traps" sad agumon one deeply. I'm trying to get back into Yu-Gi-Oh by learning about meylta strategies and had to settle for Effect Veiler for my irl deck over ghost ogre and impermanence just because of price.
10:28 I remember one of my last moments with Yu-gi.oh. I started with the first structure decks Kaiba and Yugi an loved the game. One day after some years I walk into a shop an see Generation Force with :"The rise of the XYZ-Monsters" on it. I was like WTF?! We already have that. New support. Stoped playing shortly after I found out, what that meant. ^^
My first locals experience was insanely embarrassing. I took all my best high level monsters and built a deck I thought would be really powerful. I entered the tournament and started dueling and tried to summon a high level monster without tributing... oh boy. My opponent was like you cant do that... then he explained to me how the game works and recommended I buy starter deck Joey because it had 7 colored fish, the strongest level 4 monster. This was a loongggg time ago and how ironic that I get Joey's deck when I was deck building just like Joey XD
2:19 "Yeah, well I can still destroy you with an effect!" "Yeah, well I can't be destroyed by your effect!" "Yeah, well my effect doesn't destroy!" *visible confusion*
I think when it comes to teaching new players that vrains era did a pretty decent job with trying to dull the learning curve with the way they released mechanics in their sets. So they gave us links first in the first booster which gave players a chance to adjust and learn how to play with links. Then they released the next set months later with the addition of rituals then set after with fusions and so on. So new players had a chance to learn each summoning mechanic with a window of grace before the next one came out. Sure the new players weren't gunna get a competitive edge and the structure did mostly stick them to just vrains era stuff but it made learning mechanics slower and more bitesized for a second. Though if you missed a set or jumped in later to vrains you were once again behind and had to catch up to the modern players and the previous wave of new players.
Honestly the players that get so mad over their opponent stopping their play that they would try and physically assault their opponent those players should get banned for 1 or 2 years from playing the game at any locals and tournaments.
1:33 I only started really learning the game itself within the last few years. Played a little bit when Yugioh first came out, dropped out for a while, then picked it back up when XYZ came into play. Millennium Duels on PS3 & Legacy of the Duelist on PS4 helped out A TON when learning the game!

I, a budget player, traded my common ash blossom which i had 3 of for common garbage cuz i was obly playing 2 back then, if that guy knew what he was doing i want to fuckign srangle him so badly
as a new player (almost 2 months ago I started playing) i found that its quite easy to get into, and I have taught my younger brother how to play too. My friends that got me into yugioh always complain about link summons and I personally think its fine. its not hard to understand once you get the hang of it
Big tip for people recommending budget decks, 5 dollars is the MOST expensive a single card in the deck should be and there should only be a max of 3 that cost that much. Saying a 100 dollar deck is budget and going with "Well you should see some of the $500+ decks" is like recommending a 400 dollar pair of shoes to someone as budget because there are shoes that cost thousands of dollars
5:04 - Honestly, I have two experiences when it comes to this. The one is when the opponent asks what I'm playing before play, at which I would never answer because that would spoil the surprise. The second is after they beat me without me have a single way to counter (second turn OTK). They ask, and in a slight rise of sodium, I respond that it doesn't matter since you've already beaten me.
this is purely hearsay, but it seems magic's problem is actually getting pretty rough for at least standard, The idea of a 50 card banlist especially containing cards that haven't even seen play seems like a bad sign for power creep
I play magic also and in the last year or so they have come out with half of all the bannings ever in magics history. Honestly it seems like their company stopped caring and is destroying the standard format just to make a quick buck. Its really sad which is why i took a break from magic and am strictly playing yugioh atm. At least yugioh and konami have always been upfront about their blatant power creep lolol
@@VegettoBlack Have you seen a "new" TCG that's been gaining traction recently called Flesh and Blood? It comes from New Zealand and it's looking to be a pretty good game.
1:10 yeah, I use to be on the opposite end, of those. I was kind of an emotionally unbalanced brat, back when I was a kid that played at locals. I got along with most of the others, especially since my dad would come along too to play and socialize. Luckily my scene had a lot of older players, so they were either understanding or put me in my place and I don't remember getting too out of control. When I was a kid I used to play Yugioh, Pokemon and MTG as a teenager ,before the internet was a huge thing and it was great. We would all get a structure deck and a few boosters, swap some cards out and just work on 1 or 2 decks over the year with our couple booster pack a week allowances. Every game was fun and competitive. Now everyone, without thinking or experimenting, just googles the current meta, and buys the cards needed for that specific deck online, then they play 3 rounds of a game in 60 seconds because that's all you need to know which deck is going to win. It is about as fun as flipping a coin.
I recently got back into yugioh after quitting before gx came out, it’s crazy to see how much it changed since I was a kid. My god, each card effect now is a whole novel, you need a magnifying glass to read it all
0:25 my first time was when I just bought the LEDD box and then use that Odd-Eyes deck with out putting anything else in and duel with a Cyberse deck, and thats the first time I know about Extra Monster Zone lmao 😂😂😂
My first locals... it was the height of Blackwings. I played MTG, but it was YGO night and so I was just hanging out. One of my friends talked me into playing with his spare Blackwing deck, and walked me through the basics of how to do the big winning combo. So I sit down for my first match, and I go first. I pull off this ridiculous combo she taught me flawlessly, and swung for game. And then my opponent confusedly reminded me that you can’t attack if you go first. I don’t exactly remember what happened after that, but I had used every asset I had and left myself super vulnerable to some removal and then a quick curbstomp, so I believe it could be summed up as ‘Understandable. Game two?’
My first time at locals was in Spring 2018, I brought my 3 structure deck counter fairies. First game is against the guy who had just won dragon duels in the most recent YCS. Pretty humbling experience
My first time going to locals was around 2014, I was 13 then, and my first game I used a scrabled deck of really random cards because I actually wanted to start playing the game, but didn't have much. My first match was Boujins.
This all just reminds me the first time I happened to bring my quickly made dragon deck to a card shop since i was in the Pokemon TCG, but we ended early, so someone who played yugioh was like "Hey, do you wanna play a match?" and I said sure. Given, I didn't know of the existence of Link or Pendulum monsters, and the guy filled up his field on turn 1 and ended the game turn 2. He quickly realized he wasn't playing a good player by any means, and then decided to play me again with his casual blue-eyes deck. That one lasted longer, but I still lost. Apparently, he wanted my deck to progress, since before i left, he just up and gave me 2 more BEWDs, having a total of 3 then, along with maiden with eyes of blue and some other BEWD support. I won't ever forget that time, for multiple reasons.
To be fair about the Magic-Analogy: we have cards that allow us (recalculated for Yugioh) to Look at out opponents hand at any time we want to for 800 Life From turn one onward look at their hand and make them discard any 1 card Counter any one summon by banishing one card and pay 400 life With a slight setup look at the top 7 and pick two of them without revealing any of them (those we do not choose get put back under library) In combination with mentioned discard-card we can pay 800 life at any time to make them banish not only a card in their graveyard, but search their hand and libraries for the same named card and banish them as well (sude note: once cards are banished in magic, it is close to impossible to bring them back in any form, we have about 3 cards we can use to get cards back opponents banished for us) So given that power level, I think saying 'whenever we get a card that warps a format' it isn't any less of a problem to the meta, but it is a different league. I like those memes though. Wouldn't get back into the game because screw synchro and anything following that, but I appreciate the memes and the effort put into those videos Maybe if you want to, someone like the Professor from Tolarian Community College (who once collabed with the guys from Team asp) can tell you a thing or two about the game. Or if any of you want to I would be glad to answer a question or two about the game.

OK, the pulling the money card thing has literally happened to me twice in my life. The first time was when the Duel Terminal was still a thing and Trishula was the one everyone was after. I had some free time because my round ended early and I decided to test my luck. I put $2 dollars into that Duel Terminal, the first card that popped out was some Naturia monster I don't remember and the second card was Trishula. And everyone freaking swarmed me and the younger that was in middle school me felt very uncomfortable having that many people invading my personal space The second time was weirdly a few months later after the Trishula thing; my locals tournament had just ended and we all got our Astral packs and I pulled the $40 Sangan. The dumb thing was when I had traded it, I didn't realize that I got scammed. Thankfully, the store owner helped me out and we worked out a deal that made it a more than fair trade.
I used to play when pendulum era was just starting. I loved pendulums but stopping playing near tee beginning cause i switched cities and had no one to play with. I came back about halfway through 2019
The best place to start learning yugioh is by playing Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. I just picked it up after not playing since Xyz and I was impressed at the tutorial levels that are in each of the chapters. Very easy to pick up and learn.

He ended up with 3 fusions and a synchro totaling close to 9k atk ....I almost rage quit on the spot

@@bonkchonkxb310 agreed, plus with MR5 it makes more sense to explain links before pendulums
It should be link, fusion, synchro, XYZ and pendulums but pendulums are optional
@@mohammedhussain6749 I would argue fusion synchro and xyz before link namely because those 3 methods are not restricted by Extra monster zone. Link requires you to go into specifics about that zone, which would be necessary to then move into pendulums
I don't know what this new Scyro mechanic is you're referring to, but you forgot about Synchro summoning.
My current deck revolves around summoning, “The last warrior of another world.” It somehow evolved into stealing my opponents monsters with super poly to fusion summon a ton of different monsters.
So basically Predaplant?
I play that one, and it does the same thing, but prefers DARK monsters.
This is a true story:
I'm a high school kid who enjoys his Yu-Gi-Oh and last year I was obsessed with D/Ds (I still think they're awesome and need more love) and I have a few friends that I played with.

@@heavymetal8679 I guess it's only extravagance right now, but still none of them should really be expensive in the first place!! And now the new one coming will probably follow suit. 🔥💀

For example you control 1 link and 1 xyz monster that means you can activate 2 monster effects, but if you control lets say 2 synchro monsters you can only activate 1 monster effect. Also the total number of monster effects you can activate under boarder per turn is 6.(If you control 1,ritual,1 fusion, 1 syncro,1 xyz, 1 pendelum,1 link). pretty sure its the scene when yugi plays exodia from episode 1, the red and the blue being the lifts they were in. Idk why he and us should hate ourselves for knowing though.
Yami Yugi summons Exodia against Kaiba and his 3 Blue-Eyes
I think maybe it's Yugi summoning Exodia to obliterate the Blue-Eyes, but I;m not totally sure.

8:25 Is this the iconic "Exodia, Obliterate!" scene?
That's what I was thinking, with 3 Blue-Eyes
That’s why standard is trash viva la commander
And that's just the mechanical side of things!

I agree with all of these lol

To be fair about the Magic-Analogy: we have cards that allow us (recalculated for Yugioh) to
Look at out opponents hand at any time we want to for 800 Life
From turn one onward look at their hand and make them discard any 1 card
Counter any one summon by banishing one card and pay 400 life
With a slight setup look at the top 7 and pick two of them without revealing any of them (those we do not choose get put back under library)
In combination with mentioned discard-card we can pay 800 life at any time to make them banish not only a card in their graveyard, but search their hand and libraries for the same named card and banish them as well (sude note: once cards are banished in magic, it is close to impossible to bring them back in any form, we have about 3 cards we can use to get cards back opponents banished for us)
So given that power level, I think saying 'whenever we get a card that warps a format' it isn't any less of a problem to the meta, but it is a different league.
I like those memes though. Wouldn't get back into the game because screw synchro and anything following that, but I appreciate the memes and the effort put into those videos
Maybe if you want to, someone like the Professor from Tolarian Community College (who once collabed with the guys from Team asp) can tell you a thing or two about the game.

And everyone freaking swarmed me and the younger that was in middle school me felt very uncomfortable having that many people invading my personal space
The second time was weirdly a few months later after the Trishula thing; my locals tournament had just ended and we all got our Astral packs and I pulled the $40 Sangan.
Regarding that first meme, MTG has been around longer, but was always more fair, if you don’t count the Power Nine. YuGiOh was always like that from the beginning.
