If the wealthy were limited on what they could go private with and had to use the NHS for their healthcare, the NHS care and service would improve immediately.
private compaines and private investment under labour ,pfi ,up to 2010 cost 1.4 billion it cost nhs/taxpayer ,nhs needs a royal commison to sort out the nhs and put a plan in for next 10 years min
@@BrianRhind-d2c I am not some football fan-type supporter of Labour. I know Tories came up with and launched PFI, and Blair expanded on it like a numpty. I understand why he did it - to improve waiting lists and cancer care, which it did (and figures and satisfaction for/by the patients in the NHS rose as things were SO much better under Labour) but now the taxpayers have got it in the neck! Every single time the Tories come in the NHS goes to wreck and ruin though - the statistics and the experience of NHS workers prove it. I also would love to see a Royal Commission but it needs to involve Social Care as well.
No, there should be no private option with healthcare or schools, then the rich, who have the majority of the wealth in the uk, would be motivated to help fund our public sector, so they aren’t only coping but to a high standard that everyone will benefit from
Exactly, its an extra option for the rich. The whole framing of this discussion is off. The rich aren't being forced to do anything and especially not to be the 'saviours'.
Many consultants, Senior Registrars not only work in the NHS but also do work in private health care. An orthopaedic surgeon who does hip replacements in NHS also does the same in, say, BUPA. It's just that the patient is getting the operation quicker via insurance and the Consultant is getting paid a nice sum of money extra to his NHS pay. I've seen Doctors do a day shift in a private hospital and then do a night shift in NHS.
No registrar in the United Kingdom, in any specialty, can work in the private healthcare, It's illegal and the doctor should have their licence removed by the GMC .
I thought of one day when I get more income about getting health insurance. Sadly though, Nuffield health is the hospital that would be used. These people scammed me out of thousands of pounds and badly abused me. They sent me spiralling into major depression and physical issues. Something as result has then cost nhs to pick up the pieces. This has been years. Ive been out of work for over a year and still trying to sort my life out. I've considered going into permanent sleep many times. They owe me thousands, so no way I'm using them, nor will I trust them to do what they say. So this means no choice but to rely on nhs.
Where the doctors and nurses in the private sector get their training and qualifications to work in the UK , mainly the NHS so when being train they must contract to work so many years to work ing the NHS before subcontracting into the private centres and some dr s and nurses in the private area work in state hospitals as well
If MPs had to send you their kids to state schools and only use the NHS then it would improve damn quick. We expect people in power who have no interest in the system to fix it. A people's parliment and a true democrsy would shift priorities fast.
Even in the 1980s consultants had some private patients. They used NHS buildings and equipment. Nurses and other staff also served without even the reward of a box of chocolates I might add 😂 Now, with fewer resources, the same consultants have expanded their private work encouraged by the ideology and love for privatisation. Of course it is queue jumping. Of course it causes suffering to the poorest who can not beg steal or borrow to pay for private health. Anyone that can find the money to go private in the UK is relatively rich.Fairer tax would restore the NHS to being much fairer deliverer of health care.
The whole premiss of the question is wrong. They're not asking or forcing the well off to go private, they are just giving them a choice where others have none. Letting the well off jump the queue while others have to wait in line in an underfunded NHS. Tories, just as Labour nowadays, say that its not about just pumping money into the NHS but that obviously is the point. The lack of investment leads to longer queues and more vacancies. The question should be why it is OK to allow the well off to jump the queue while undercutting the solidarity at the heart of the NHS.
We have the main presenter and the other (bar Owen) who both use private healthcare, dentistry and I'm sure private schooling too, so why the hell would be care what these people think.
Sorry but the private sector would go out of business without the NHS. It relies on the NHS for training, emergency and intense care and initial diagnoses.
I'm reasonably comfortable, not wealthy by a long chalk and have used private healthcare. I would do so again as it's convenient and saves time. I'd also like to think it saves me clogging up NHS waiting lists. The first thing I would sort out for the NHS is procurement and tendering because there are a lot of very rich people and companies using it as a cash cow charging it extortionate amounts of money for products and services that could be cheaper. Have a look who is making money out of providing it with agency staff and so on and it makes sense why the government have little interest in changing it. As always follow the money!

How to dismiss someone’s views without actually giving your own point. Owen is a political commentator who is respected by a lot of media outlets. I don’t agree with everything he says, but I respect him as his views are based on facts and offer an alternative to what many in power put forward . So basically aim to stay poor, for if you work hard & become wealthy as a result you will be punished by taxes so that those who are poor or do not work as hard get everything free! 🙃

@@TomMAF4 How would you be rich if you aim to be poor and do not work hard as I said? Once one becomes successful or wealthy one becomes resented and hated, as is obvious by the discrimination and jealous hatred shown towards Jews because of their history of being hardworking and successful in business, unilke their unproductive cousins, the Arabs, who, if not for the discovery of oil to make some of their states rich would be found smoking water pipes and playing backgammon whilst their women carry all the heavy burden of food etc on their heads! The problem in saying the rich should use private Health care is it will force the NHS to check patients bank accounts before treating them.
The rich aren't forced to do anything. They are given extra options and that is being sold as a win for the NHS. That is some monumental spin.
It's not just not fair, it's not right!
