I’ve read up that Johnny Cages actor was offered to come back in the role, but he quickly rejected it after reading the script.

On the widescreen DVD, if you pause it while Liu Kang is helping Sub-Zero up, for a few frames, you can SEE Scorpion hanging out in the shot behind Kitana waiting for his queue in the next shot.

Wasn't just him, Christopher Lambert also didn't do the movie for similar reason. They both dodge the bullet. I'm glad they got Lambert to reprise his role, only as a skin for MK11
Even without the powers, they could've still had Raiden carry himself like Lambert's portrayal of the character (Even the likes of Conquest and Defenders of The Realm managed that task). Now he just seems like a random middle-aged man with a mid-life crisis.

The scene with Jax and Sonya and the fight with Mileena were filmed at Parys Mountain, a copper mine in North Wales.
The pools of water in that scene were drained shortly after they filmed because they were contaminated with acidic copper, and the underground dam was on the verge of failing, which would have devastated the nearby town of Amlwch.
I've been there many times. No mention of this film being shot there can be found these days.
...Can't imagine why.

Jade was played by Irina Pantaeva, a Russian actress/model, of Buryat origin (hence the asian looks). She moved to Paris in 1992 and her modeling career has been pretty good since then. In 1994 she moved to New York and that's how she got involved in MK:A and some other films.

Quan Chi was a random movie staffer in costume with no lines, so ultimately his bit was cut from the movie.
I’ve heard that he was originally going to be the main villain in the scrapped Mortal Kombat 3 movie. Though I have no idea what they were going to do with him considering most of his deal involves Shinnock and they butcher him in this movie.
You know what’s a travesty? The modern MK franchise can license characters like Robocop, Terminator, and Freddy Krueger but they can’t won’t make Siro canon!

Rain was my favorite character (I played 3 ultimate first and I like Purple) and I even had a costume of him for Halloween. I was so upset that they killed him so stupidly XO. I was like 11-12 at the time.

I efen LOVED the first move, albeit goofy but the cast was fantastic. Was supper stoked to see a sequel coming out. Rushed out to see it asap. Not even a minute in and my jaw was on the floor in disbelief. What a joke. I think I spent the rest of the movie just sitting there going "What?!" Sad how some of the cooler characters were hardly there. I thought they did ok with Shiva and Motaro except for reducing them to bickering lackeys.
Not mentioned : the $70 sunglasses who replace Jonny's $500 ones 🤣
I feel like taking a person's soul is this movie's version of sending someone to another dimension.

Though he never would be able to replicate Chris Lambert's performance as Raiden, I think James Remar COULD have been a great Raiden in his own right because he is quite a good actor and has a great voice, but it's a shame that the filmmakers had no idea what they were doing when they made this movie and didn't give him anything to work with.

Seems to me they got Jade confused with Tanya, as backstabbing is more the Yellow Female NINJAs thing (a trait she shares with Mileena)! Or they used Jade to surprise members of the audience familiar with the source material!

I bought this film purely for the (Raiden & Baraka) Ray Park scenes, and was pleasantly surprised to find loads of BABYLON 5 actors in it. It's utterly bonkers though!

Moral of the story, Don't add half the MK cast if ya don't know what to do with them! The thing is adapting a big roster of fighting video game characters can be difficult. Adapting a big roster of fighting video game characters into a TV series is much more easier, with plenty of room for them to grow.

They did it with Conquest, and Conquest was also a disjointed mess.
@Throgg KingofTrolls MK Conquest takes place before the events of the games & only adapted a small chunk of the characters. Also, there's an old saying. That was then this is now.
It takes Annihilation to teach you about the restraint of Mortal Kombat.

As bad as Annihilation was, and it was bad, and as awful as Sindel was in the movie, THAT RETCON IN MK11 was awful. I still love the game, but Lednis as I call MK11’s fake Sindel is pretty much my punching bag character.

This movie hurt to watch, especially for me since at the time I was still hyped up from the first movie so this was like a nut check and I do not appreciate how they wasted my boy Baraka. Will the new Mortal Kombat movie be good? I don't know but it will definitely be better than this. Although I have to admit Scorpion yelling "SUCKERS!" was amusing.
Also do not get me started on how badly they FAILED with Mileena.

This movie was a mess especially the pointless use of character cameos. I really felt real bad for Rain who showed up only to be killed by Shao Kahn for succeeding in his plan, same thing with Jade too.

Yeah. Rain was one of my favorite game characters at the time. Sucked to see him killed, though. Then again...this entire movie was awful and I saw it in the theaters. That's $6.50 I'm never getting back...or maybe it was $5.50...I don't recall, but either way, I lost out on that money. lol
Jade was also a favorite character for me game wise. Her combos were more fun to do with that staff of hers.

Huh, apparently Johnny Cage was killed in Mortal Kombat III the game, too. Off-screen, even. And surprisingly this second movie is more about the third game.
Well yeah Motaro and most of those characters are from 3. They pretty much just skipped over MK2 lore.
The first movie technically was MK1 and 2 combined. I mean they cover how the tournament start and how Liu Kang and Kung Lao I mean Johnny Cage enter Outworld to rescue Sonya and Kano (if he's still alive) and actually win the tournament. So yeah the first movie covers MK 1 and 2 whereas Annihilation covers MK3 and maybe a little of 4 had they not cut Quan Chi out. Quan Chi was gonna appear in the cliffhanger scene where they show Shinnok being banish to the Netherealm but since they don't had any plan for a sequel that part was not included.
Ah Mortal Kombat and the palet swapped ninjas.

With 100% honesty, the cast of MORTAL KOMEDY brutally beats this cast of characters any day.

I think they thought this movie was going to be a hit for toys when they made it. Kinda like Batman and Robin. It's the only reason I can think of that they made this movie the way they did.

I'm glad that Talisa and Robin are back, at least they spared us of another terrible miscast.
Annihilation isn't as good as the original 95 Mortal Kombat movie but I personally still love this movie not because it's good but because it's fun, cheesy, over the top and has a kick ass soundtrack that I even have saved as a playlist on Spotify.
For me this is more entertaining than the first one and more rewatchable
