I feel like Johnny Cage's self-loathing of his past-self is one of the MOST realistic character portrayals in all of entertainment. Really makes me wonder what that story mode could have been if Sonya were an actor and not backfiring stunt-casting.
Awful delivery or not, her actual lines were fine. The Cage family was one of the best things in the new timeline. The big problem with the MK11 story is not Sonya, it's that nothing in there fucking matters because it all leads up to another reboot.
The first MK game only had Goro from the Outworld, which makes me think that the tournament originally was supposed to have earth fighters compete for the honor of facing Goro.

You know, normally I'm not a fan of unscripted material. But this video had some good interaction between two people who know literally EVERYTHING about Mortal Kombat. It was actually pretty illuminating.
I really liked the crossover Looks like a good movie, if a bit uneven in terms of character development and ridiculous gore,. but that's a lot like the original live action film in the other direction. I guess every time they tell the story of MK1 it's from a different focus, and this is the Scorpion movie for big Scorpion fans. Hope there's a sequel.
I m ok to have more characters added to the original tournament when they have to give the first game a more cohesive plot. Having only a few of earth fighters fighting each other would make no sense from a narrative point of view
The only way I could see Scorpion making it to the end being a win for Outworld would be if the plan was if an allied Realm made it to the finals against Goro they'd just concede and thus give Outworld the victory. And I guess the rule for Scorpion suddenly being Outworld's rep is just the rule in the event of outside interference killing a fighter during a match.
I've been following the story heavy since MK3, I don't mind the retcon. She's always been a villain in the games, and it adds to the tragic story of Kitana. How many lies has ahe been fed her whole life? And she still chose to fight agains Outworld and trust Liu Kang and the other Earthrealmers. That being said, I get why people like it the way it was. The stories really were the best under John Tobias' writing.
I actually like the sindel retcon. It make her a actually character with motivation and ambition and not a overpowered zombie working for someone else.

Such "motivation" and "ambition" to just copy and paste one character into another. The retcon makes no sense because original timeline Sindel and new timeline Sindel are the same since both timelines are the same (in both timelines Raiden gets visions from the future, meaning both timelines are following the events of the original one). The original timeline Sindel goes out of her way to save Kitana in Deception, meaning it makes no sense for the new timeline Sindel to be evil given that she's the same as the old one. Of course the retarded "she looks evil, therefore she's evil" excuse for the retcon makes everything worse.
For me, I liked the movie fine, but my main issue is that it had a lack of focus and wasted a bunch of characters. Whether it be killing them off just for the sake of killing someone to prove it's mortal kombat, or like Kitana who shows up for her one fight and then immediately exits the movie. For the first point, for a movie about scorpion he really doesn't do much for the entire second act and half of the third. It's kind of feels like the writers of the movie wanted to make a Johnny Cage focused movie showing his perspective in the events of MK1, but then Ed Boon cam in and said "No! It has to be about Scorpion because he's the bestest!" So now we have a Johnny Cage movie bookended by Scorpion doing cool things, and also it's the story of MK1 so let's act like chosen one Liu Kang was important to the proceedings in some way too. Also I like how this movie gives us our, what, third, fourth explanation for how Jax loses his arms. And this time he does it before MKII even happened.
Yeah, this movie wasted a lot of characters. Also why even shoehorn Quan Chi as the main villain into this? Now he is dead before he would appear 4 games later.
I want a Defenders if the Realm game, with as many of the original cartoon cast as possible, and with Ciro as a hidden/DLC character. Or at least have them as skins in a future MK game.
Shang Tsung pitting Jax against Goro was actually an exhibition match. Shang Tsung was stacking the deck against Earthrealm by having one of it's fighters knocked out early, while still following the rules. That was why Raiden was able to intervene, it wasn't part of the tournament. Because much like in the games, the host gets to rig the tournament. We get the hint that Raiden and Shang Tsung have played this game before in the past nine tournaments, trying to bend the rules as much as they can to make sure their side wins. I really didn't like how Liu Kang needed Scorpion to save him from Goro. For what the movie was going for, it could have just had Liu Kang win, Scorpion show up, then Shang Tsung is all "Hey I still have a fighter left," and Liu Kang is too worn out to fight Scorpion. Then he attacks Shang Tsung. Also, why did Scorpion steal the amulet from Shang Tsung? There is no reason stated. If he wants it to not get stolen, Shang Tsung seemed to be doing a decent job guarding it.

Again, he didn't technically break any rules, and nobody really forced Liu to accept this challenge - all he had to do was say "no thanks, stay salty, see you in another 50 years".
And yes, I think That other last Lin Kuei on the island who was also slain by scorpion at 22:50 is actually Kuai Liang. Like why else would he be there?
If they did make a sequel, I’d like to see more focus on Kitana. Her scene with Liu Kang in this movie was a good setup for her ark where she turns on Shao khan. Even better would be if it explored her relationship with Mileena. Also, I thought that Nitara’s cameo was nice. I like that her eyepatch outlines her eye socket.
There was no story for MK3 Ultimate, but that was probably my favorite for playing... it has a run button and some pretty cool combos. I think the iconic Mortal Kombat is 2... to me, it had the best atmosphere or maybe it is just nostalgia.
At last a better Mortal Kombat movie AND IT'S ANIMATED!! I have always said that any live-action adaptation of a comic book, cartoon, or video game would be vastly improved as an animated feature if you get the right directors and artists involved! ^^

Ugh. There's literally two fatalities that are actually canon in the whole series: Bi-Han ripping out Scorpion's spine during MK Mythologies, and Scorpion burning Bi-Han alive during MK1. That's it. Every other fatality, from everybody, is non canon... and they still left out both of them. Any time somebody else is killed, it's by something random, like a broken neck or a weapon they don't use. Also: Cree Summer is the only Sonya!
took them this long to make a MK animation that is actually violent like the games.Hopefully it becomes a series of direct-to-video movies like they do to Scooby-Doo,Tom & Jerry and DC stuff. and I love how this movie felt like watching those hyper violent anime OVAs from the 80's and 90's,considering we don't get much anime like those these days.
The black lines on their fingers highlighting their knuckles are really weird. I thought it was a tattoo at first when I thought they were just on Jonny cage.
Mortal Kombat 1 was the best, not only because it's the only one that ran on our old computer, resulting it to be the only one I played extensively as a child, I'm positive there are other reasons that I just don't know, since I didn't play most other parts. But otherwise than claimed here, they never did an adaptation of MK 1, they always went with MK2+ Raiden and the MK2+ "tournament to stop alien invasion" storyline.
I have a weird relationship with MK. I enjoy the lore, love the characters (almost all of them have very strong designs), but I'm not a fan of the over the top gore at all.
I saw this pop up earlier, and decided to watch the movie, because I hadn't seen it yet. I just finished it, and omg it was really good. Like way better than I thought it would be. It almost made me puke in some parts, lol. It was so gory. I recently re-watched all of your MK Conquest, and Defenders Of The Realm videos too :)
So Shao Khan rewards his warriors if they screw up? But kills them if they accomplish their mission? Yeah no wander that he keeps losing to earth realm.
The only way I can see this make any sense is if Shao Khan plans to absorb the souls of his best warriors & amp up the failures so he could later absorb them.
My issue with this movie is it makes Liu Kang look useless even though he’s supposed to be the one to save the day. He doesn’t even get to have his showdown with Shang Tsung. Also something I didn’t get is when Shang Tsung is telling the story of the tournament he says he’s the champion of Mortal Kombat and implies he defeated Kung Lao yet when it shows someone standing over Lao the arm of the victor doesn’t look like Tsung’s. So if Goro defeated Lao which canonwise he did why try to suggest otherwise cause if Tsung did win over Lao he would be in his young form because of the reward of being champion

Yeah, this movie wasted a lot of characters. Also why even shoehorn Quan Chi as the main villain into this? Now he is dead before he would appear 4 games later.
Daffy Duck's fatality is easily the best part of the movie.
I want a Defenders if the Realm game, with as many of the original cartoon cast as possible, and with Ciro as a hidden/DLC character.
Or at least have them as skins in a future MK game.

Shang Tsung pitting Jax against Goro was actually an exhibition match. Shang Tsung was stacking the deck against Earthrealm by having one of it's fighters knocked out early, while still following the rules. That was why Raiden was able to intervene, it wasn't part of the tournament. Because much like in the games, the host gets to rig the tournament. We get the hint that Raiden and Shang Tsung have played this game before in the past nine tournaments, trying to bend the rules as much as they can to make sure their side wins.
I really didn't like how Liu Kang needed Scorpion to save him from Goro. For what the movie was going for, it could have just had Liu Kang win, Scorpion show up, then Shang Tsung is all "Hey I still have a fighter left," and Liu Kang is too worn out to fight Scorpion. Then he attacks Shang Tsung.
Also, why did Scorpion steal the amulet from Shang Tsung? There is no reason stated. If he wants it to not get stolen, Shang Tsung seemed to be doing a decent job guarding it.

Jax wasn't a tournament participant, though. In the new timeline, him and Sonya got switched around, so now Jax is the one trying to sneak onto Shang's island uninvited and getting caught. Raiden was able to pull rank here and save him from getting completely shredded by Goro, but technically, Shang wasn't breaking any rules here, he was just showing what happens to trespassers.

Shang Tsung wasn't breaking rules but we do see he likes to bend them with tricks like getting Kano to bring his mercenaries. I would still call that stacking the deck, he's just doing as much as he can without doing anything that would be considered cheating.

Now that I think about it, OT Shang was actually way nicer because when he caught Sonya trespassing, he didn't just throw her in for Goro to dismantle, but instead let her join the tournament bracket, giving her a theoretical chance to win. Sure, he was holding her entire team hostage in the meantime, but still.

That's what makes Shang such a magnificent bastard. The absolute madwizard did it in MK2, too. As a reminder, Shang's plan was to raid the Shaolin temple, massacre Liu's monk brothers and piss him off enough to agree to a kind of an off-the-books, winner-takes-all tournament to take place in Outworld, and you gotta give it to him - it's a pretty solid plan. Again, he didn't technically break any rules, and nobody really forced Liu to accept this challenge - all he had to do was say "no thanks, stay salty, see you in another 50 years".
Also, how was it even not against the rules that Scorpion just kills the champion while he is fighting someone else? Weak.

The rivalry was between Scorpion and Sub zero but Boon has shoved Quan chi in the middle of it
It was annoying, Sub Zero reduced to a nobody with 2 lines in a Scorpion movie that should have been about their enmity.
Regarding Socrpion killing nearly all Lin-kuei it feels like nearly all palette and cyber ninjas are going to be non existence in the universe.
And yes, I think That other last Lin Kuei on the island who was also slain by scorpion at 22:50 is actually Kuai Liang. Like why else would he be there?
If they did make a sequel, I’d like to see more focus on Kitana. Her scene with Liu Kang in this movie was a good setup for her ark where she turns on Shao khan. Even better would be if it explored her relationship with Mileena.
Also, I thought that Nitara’s cameo was nice. I like that her eyepatch outlines her eye socket.
Not to mention most media pretty much minimizes her. I mean ,what does it say that Defenders of the Realm does the most for her character?

There was no story for MK3 Ultimate, but that was probably my favorite for playing... it has a run button and some pretty cool combos. I think the iconic Mortal Kombat is 2... to me, it had the best atmosphere or maybe it is just nostalgia.
At last a better Mortal Kombat movie AND IT'S ANIMATED!! I have always said that any live-action adaptation of a comic book, cartoon, or video game would be vastly improved as an animated feature if you get the right directors and artists involved! ^^
great point with Scorpion teleportation could have been used to save himself when he killed Sub Zero,also,Quan Chi could have used his sorcery to
disappear,instead of unnecesary fight that cost him his life,at least Quan Chi from MK Conquest tried to do that against SHADOW PRIEST's...

Ugh. There's literally two fatalities that are actually canon in the whole series: Bi-Han ripping out Scorpion's spine during MK Mythologies, and Scorpion burning Bi-Han alive during MK1. That's it. Every other fatality, from everybody, is non canon... and they still left out both of them. Any time somebody else is killed, it's by something random, like a broken neck or a weapon they don't use.

took them this long to make a MK animation that is actually violent like the games.Hopefully it becomes a series of direct-to-video movies like they do to Scooby-Doo,Tom & Jerry and DC stuff.

Mortal Kombat 1 was the best, not only because it's the only one that ran on our old computer, resulting it to be the only one I played extensively as a child, I'm positive there are other reasons that I just don't know, since I didn't play most other parts.
But otherwise than claimed here, they never did an adaptation of MK 1, they always went with MK2+ Raiden and the MK2+ "tournament to stop alien invasion" storyline.

I have a weird relationship with MK. I enjoy the lore, love the characters (almost all of them have very strong designs), but I'm not a fan of the over the top gore at all.
Same here, it really is a big turnoff.
I can't help but feel like that's part of the reason MK doesn't have as big of a following in Japan. Don't quote me on that, though.

I saw this pop up earlier, and decided to watch the movie, because I hadn't seen it yet. I just finished it, and omg it was really good. Like way better than I thought it would be. It almost made me puke in some parts, lol. It was so gory. I recently re-watched all of your MK Conquest, and Defenders Of The Realm videos too :)

The only way I can see this make any sense is if Shao Khan plans to absorb the souls of his best warriors & amp up the failures so he could later absorb them.

My issue with this movie is it makes Liu Kang look useless even though he’s supposed to be the one to save the day. He doesn’t even get to have his showdown with Shang Tsung. Also something I didn’t get is when Shang Tsung is telling the story of the tournament he says he’s the champion of Mortal Kombat and implies he defeated Kung Lao yet when it shows someone standing over Lao the arm of the victor doesn’t look like Tsung’s. So if Goro defeated Lao which canonwise he did why try to suggest otherwise cause if Tsung did win over Lao he would be in his young form because of the reward of being champion
