PR & 5J Pros & Cons from someone who flies them: PR Pros: - better seats COMPARED TO 5J - they're not strict with the amount of checked bags you have as long as it is within the weight limit (varies depending on which country you're going to since some have baggage rules imposed) - in flight snacks (domestic) / meals (international) are already included to your fare. - if you're lucky, you might actually fly on planes with revamped cabin. - checked baggages are also included to your fare (all fare classes for international, while economy supersaver on regional doesn't get one) - domestic rates are actually competitive with Z2 and 5J, you'd want to book early though as the cheapest fare class sells out quickly! PR Cons: - being a full service airline, it's expected that the price would be higher especially for overseas flights. - their fleet consists of older aircraft compared to 5J, so quite a lot of their planes have older seats with old IFEs or NONE at all. (their planes aren't that old for an aircraft since most are in their 10th to 13th year of flying, most planes retire at 20+ years). - seats might be uncomfortable for people above the average asian height. 5J Pros: - very low fares! you'd get a MNL-BKK roundtrip ticket for around 9k php during regular days (PR can cost up to 16k) - their fleet is much younger so their cabin is more modern and most planes are equipped with charging ports. - they serve asian destinations that PR and Z2 don't offer such as Da Nang, Vietnam. 5J Cons: - their seats may be modern, but they sure as hell are uncomfortable to sit on for more than 2 hours. they are thin af and cannot be reclined! (I flew with them last year, the flight was around 4 hours and my back was in so much pain during and after the flight) - strict checked baggage policies, you're only allowed to bring ONE BAG for a 20kg allowance. (back then we were able to check-in two carry-on sized bags for the same price, now you have to buy TWO). - everyone knows this already, their flights especially domestic ones are always delayed even during the morning. (might be because of how congested terminal 3 is or just because manila air traffic is bad) I honestly can't put the flight cancellations against them, because both are experiencing maintenance issues with their Airbus planes (due to global shortages of parts) so they have quite a lot of planes that can't fly. I do not want to compare their meals because I haven't tried PR's international flights where they offer full meals and I do not order food during my 5J flights. Most of my pros and cons just come from my personal experience and my observations from aviation reviewers. Ultimately my winner would be Z2 though 😂. I get the best of both worlds! Cheap fares, seat comfort is right in between PR and 5J (no head cushion but seat is more plush than 5J + it can actually recline), and they're not strict with their baggages (they use this as marketing lol, a loooot of people hate 5J's baggage policies!). They might want to purchase newer planes though because their planes are getting old, having a bigger fleet will also enable them to offer more flights and be of competition to PR and 5J especially with international routes.
I highly disagree with "value". I just booked Iloilo to Manila direct flight and PAL costs $160 each, while CebuPac is $120 for 2 people. Flight consists of 1 carry on at 7kg and 1 checked baggage at 20kg and seat selection.

Philippine airline CONS: legroom is tight(it's like lowcost airline), meal was average(dessert is only 2pcs of dried mango.. should have ice cream or a piece of cake), very limited inflight entertainment (not all aircraft have it). PROS: on-time take off (depends if there's no traffic in the runway) and very smooth landing. CEBU PACIFIC CONS: tight legroom, cancelled flights or delayed. PROS: cheap fare 😍 WINNER: Cebu Pacific. (I only experienced cancelled flight going back to the Phils and they're generous giving us free hotel accommodation and meal voucher).
