Hey Peter (Jr)...lol I have sailed lasers most of my teenage life...(made in point claire Quebec)....they are FAST and it will fly ....once you aquire a MAST and Sale and rudder.....you will have a blast!! (not as much fun as a kiteboard....because I know you love to surf....so one of these summer weekends if you want, would meet you at oliphant ontario and get you up on a board .....(serious)...AS for the laser (looks not to bad...I would not junk it).... Also you will want a harnass strap in the middle ....it allows you to hike your ASS out the boat...and keep it from Turtling!!! Epoxy and fibreglass ...its a great project and you will love it!! JUST watch out when you jibe....that boom can KNOCK you out!!! lol The effort to restore will be worth the sweat equity and I know you will perservere!!! Our laser was called the Medora Streaker...(Medora lake close to Bala ontario!! Cheers, and loving your Adventure guys START!!! Warmest of regards, 1000 islands Canada!!
Hey Peter - the boat looks great. As you know, fiberglass, with care, will nearly last forever. The HIN # on the stern of the boat is like a VIN # for cars. Includes mfg'r, model #, serial #, and generally the last two #'s are the model year, however, HIN numbers have evolved over the years. I believe the last letter is the month it was build. Not sure if your Laser was built in April or August, but the MY is 1980. For many boat companies the new models will be released in June - August of the prior year. So the build date on this Laser could have been in 1979. Great sailboat and looking forward to seeing it evolve. Sailing is a great skill to learn.
What a fun project! You're going to have so much enjoyment fixing this sailing boat and then sailing it. That meal looked so yummy. Great start Peter, Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼ve
I get calmed when watching all of the Epic Family’s channels. Right now I’m in a move to go off grid/back country with an older 4WD truck. The calming sensations help me to refocus & get back to the move. And I’m the Big 7.. now. Did you know your channels were therapeutic?
Appreciate you taking the time to share your boat project with us. Enjoyed every minute of it. Now you have peaked my interest in trying to recreate that meal you were both sharing.
I built two small wooden sailboats growing up and have fond memories of that time, learning skills from my dad and sailing out of the Santa Cruz harbor in the Monterey Bay of California. Lasers were so popular back in the late 70's and really fast on the water. You will have so much fun with it for sure!
Growing up our dad would bring a boxes and frames of things he taught us 5 kids (2 girls then 3 brothers) to restore. For of us left now and we all still do simple projects. It's a great feeling when it all comes together for a good use or adventure.
There is International Laser Class Sailboat Racing. Many an Olympic medalist in sailing got there start with Lasers. An excellent and fast sailboat. As you are learning be prepared to capsize a time or two. So learn your chops when the weather is warm. What a great project.
Peter I wouldn't be a bit surprised if one of these days you'll be setting sail in a bigger boat. Starting with the boat your working on now should let you learn the basics. Look forward to watching you progress with your new project!
Nice project! Love sailing as well! In my experience, the best way to get it clean; after you've washed it, wax it. Find the best wax for fiberglass, and the wax will take the rest of the dirt off. This is a great project!
I really enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing. Of course I also follow Dan weekly, and the EFRT as well. Also I absolutely loved watching Expedition Overland. Hope you realize how special it is to have the relationship you and Dan seem to have. Watch out for each other, but have fun. Be safe too!
OOOOHH! The Laser is a great small sail boat! Its so fun and very fast once you learn how to maneuver it! I had one comparable to it called Arrow. You will have a blast with it!!
15 minutes into the vlog , sail boat looks much better . y'all ever thought of a small power washer for bigger projects around the island , or a steam cleaner ? the ones they use to clean cars-RVs etc . idk how that steam will affect the fiberglass though
Been sailing lasers on and off all my life, they are lots of fun! Even did a minor restoration on my dad’s old Laser. There’s lots of information online as well as parts. Look into reinforcing the base of the mast step (tube) as this is a weak spot in these boats. The bottom of the tube can also start to leak inside the hull as the mast twists back and forth especially if you get sand in there. Let me know if you have any questions!
Love sailing. Sailed all my life. Is this a sun fish? Laser is a great boat. Learn your nomenclature. Lol you would have a blast. Is it made out of fiberglass? You need to see if it leaks. Look for a center board, mast, a sail… recipe please.
Hull Number 86544 is a 1980 Laser-class sailing dinghy, built by the Les Voiliers Performance company (Manufacturer designated by the "ZFS"). From what I can find they built boats out of Quebec from 1975 - 1985. And yeah... that ramen? wow!
Excellent! I look forward to seeing your upcoming videos! Is your format different for a reason? None of my other channels are like this one. I'm older, so I'm confused how to navigate. Lol.
Now I have to "Like" 3 videos each week. EFRT, Dan's channel and now The Adventure guy (Pete,s) channel. What is next Caroline's channel?, then Lando's. own channel. lol. I hope so
Nice job on the cleaning of the boat! That Ramen looked so good you should share that recipe!!
Nothing is more satisfying than cleaning an item that needs elbow grease and having it turn almost brand new.
Agreed! 👍🏻

This is a great project Peter! Nothing more satisfying than making something old new again!
I agree! I look forward to having it on the water again.👍🏻
Lasers are great little boats! We always had them at Boy Scout summer camps here in California
Looking forward to seeing your adventures Peter. Good luck with this exciting channel.
Thank you! 🙌🏻👍🏻
Once you're sailing, you'll be very proud of yourself! Love your soup bowls too... cute!
Yes! Thank you! 👍🏻
Great project. Looking forward to how this plays out. Oh! And great looking “simple, little meal” 😂
Glad you enjoyed it! I can’t wait, lots of learning… which I’m sure will be entertaining to watch😂
Appreciate you taking the time to share your boat project with us. Enjoyed every minute of it. Now you have peaked my interest in trying to recreate that meal you were both sharing.
Great video! I'd love the recipe on the soup
It's great to listen and look at young people who grasp from the pass & share in the present!!

This was so awesome. I love it and Peter Jr...I am hooked on watching more. Blessings to you and Dan. 🙏❤🤗

So looking forward to seeing your adventures Peter. Sailboat progression will be interesting and also watching you progress as a filmmaker.
I’m glad to have you along for the journey! 👍🏻

Thanks for watching!

Lasers are about as much fun as one can have sailing!! Cool project all around 🙌👊
Great to hear! I can’t wait to learn how to sail with it.
thank you for sharing with us, take care stay safe and looking forward to your next video👍🎉
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks. 👍🏻
Absolutely love the video! And Uncle Rodger would be proud of your ramen
Thank you!

Terry Nielson from Toronto (Kipling area) and Hank Lammens from Brockville.....yepp Olympic racers with the laser!!
That’s super cool! I can’t wait to get in the water.👍🏻⛵️

Great advice! Thanks 👍🏻

Glad you enjoy! I’m very thankful for Dan, we’ve done almost everything together and have always had each others back. Thanks for watching!
Love "The Beginning" and can't wait to see the ongoing story.
Awesome! 👍🏻
Nice Job Pete!! Soup looked good too!!
Thanks! 👍🏻
I want to do the same !! you are one step ahead of me !
Nice work! I think the restoration project will be educational and gratifying vs a new purchase. Excited to see there progress!
I agree! Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
Good luck with the new channel!
Thank you!
Your Ramen looks amazing!
Thank you!
OOOOHH! The Laser is a great small sail boat! Its so fun and very fast once you learn how to maneuver it! I had one comparable to it called Arrow. You will have a blast with it!!
Good to know! I can’t wait to have it in the water. 👍🏻
That soup 🍜 looks delicious yum 😋
Thank you!
Lasers are great because minimal rigging. It’s more about the boat having soft spots. 😊
Good to know!
How cool! can’t wait to see you on it!
15 minutes into the vlog , sail boat looks much better . y'all ever thought of a small power washer for bigger projects around the island , or a steam cleaner ? the ones they use to clean cars-RVs etc . idk how that steam will affect the fiberglass though
Thanks! A pressure washer would help for sure but this side of the island has no running water. I’m not sure about steam either.
Great video

Love it PJ.
Glad you enjoyed!
I sure you long done with this now, but thought a garden sprayer would help with some pressure washing. Looks exciting!
Thanks for watching! There is no running water on this part of the island yet, otherwise a garden hose or pressure washer would be great. 👍🏻
P.s learning to kite would be amazing video!!! Just saying....lol THEN a surf board for you to try strapless.....YOU will be Hooked!!

Great information! And thanks, I was happy I didn’t mess up the ramen 😂. Both Dan and I were too hungry to have it not work out.
I wonder if the sails mast etc. were stored in one of the cabins before the boat was stored?
Could be, I’m definitely going to look around. Thanks for watching!
Looks like a perfect job for a pressure washer
Thanks for watching! If I could get running water on that side of the island it would be great! 👍🏻
Excellent! I look forward to seeing your upcoming videos!
Is your format different for a reason? None of my other channels are like this one. I'm older, so I'm confused how to navigate. Lol.
P.s with the harness strap buy a pool noodle to go over the seat belt strap....much easier on your feet...(you will thank me later)
Good tip! Thanks 👍🏻
I agree you should get a a pressure washer
Now I have to "Like" 3 videos each week. EFRT, Dan's channel and now The Adventure guy (Pete,s) channel. What is next Caroline's channel?, then Lando's. own channel. lol. I hope so
Thanks for all your support! 👍🏻
Im loving those bowls. Where are they from please.
The bowls are from ( World Market ). We picked them up in Montana.
How about Simply Green?
That probably would have worked as well.
i think the serial number of your Laser starts with a "zed" not a "zee"
Should have worn some kind of gloves for that led. I am not sure if I was sending you or your brother a text. Thanks.
