Things I forgot to mention, or didn't mention because there wasn't much to talk about: - I liked the car list, however it felt a bit bloated with many duplicates (for example having 4 copies of an RX-7 for Drift, Drag, etc.) - Customization was decent, could have been better if they separated lights and splitters into different categories. Wheel selection is still terrible - Still not a huge fan of the upgrading system, but it's far more tolerable than in Payback for example - Engine sounds are actually fantastic, ingame radio had a nice song selection as well - The addition of fine tuning is great, but misses some options (gear ratios were missing as far as I know)
@@yqzu Just like Forza copies car lists from their previous games (hence the car models look garbage) so does the crew, but they do update the models a ton.
Don't forget the Legends point system which are time gated in TCM! These points can increase your nitrous power, refill speed, how much XP you earn, how much cash you earn, how fast you can travel through water, increasing your Treasure Frequency and loot quality, you drafting power, your maximum drafting distance, your speed when you get drafted, the distance whern this effect triggers, your tire wear in Pro Racing events, how fast you get your speed multiplier in drift events, how high the multiplier can get and how much extra speed you gain when you shift up in drag race events! There are also a few minor once which I didn't list here! You can only earn them Via the main stage by ranking up your timeline (Revisit Playlists, Compete against other Players and Explore the Island which is basically playing skill tests around the Island) or by competing in the Summit! There's no way to earn them by playing through the game naturally like it was in the crew 2 and for me it's a Jupiter sized dealbreaker!
I will agree on no pedestrians and blurred mirrors, that needs to be fixed but what makes it even weirder is that it's not even a 1:1 of the map like tdu so blurred mirrors and having pedestrians shouldn't be a problem
I hope test drive solar crown is a good contender for this game . Between the fake ai's in freeroam, and cars that were in TC2 that still have half ass interior gauges (for ex. nismo gtr says push to start since TC2) i really hope a lot of things are fixed before released . Coming from insiders program , this beta was a step back for a lot of us who couldn't even get the game started.
Tbh, i'm excited for TDUSC, but due to the time that is taking and for the progress that their doing, i doubt it Will be bad but i think it will not look what we expect, even if we don't know what to expect
For me, what makes The Crew signature feature is the massive map. Motorfest map doesn't feel massive to me, and having it set on Hawaii doesn't help either. People will just compare it with TDU. EDIT: For FOMO Content, FH4 tried this method when they introduced Rip Rod, and to have it you need to place 1st in PvP drag race. It went as well as you expected, and this kind of event does not appear again.
FINALLY. Someone who actually explains the IMPORTANT parts of the game comparison. Realism, Arcadiness, driving physics etc. I had to skip all the guys only doing graphics and sand,water, destructible environment etc. Thank you sir!
Honestly the only thing that keeps bugging me is how Motorfest just feels more like a DLC than its own game. It was the combination of a smaller map (yet it looks well detailed) and the whole import your TC2 collection into the game. And what worries me more is how much content can even fit in Motorfest without it immediately getting repetitive or have races just going the same way or feel the same. I havent played the Beta myself I only know some stuff from reddit and youtube posts. There were some cool additions but I'm really worried on the longetivity of motorfest because I think TC2 crammed a lot of events in because of the huge map (albeit it was mostly empty at launch). So im still cautious when it comes to this game.
Motorfest was DLC for The Crew 2 at start but they changed it and made into standalone game with big price tag. I keep telling people that game is not worth money and to don't get hyped since i spent good amount of time in insider beta.
It was a DLC but then they got greedy and made it standalone game , just like the new upcoming AC game. Ubi got lazy AF and I really hate how people are praising it and saying it will compete with Horizon. Horizon might have fallen from H3 but it's still the best one in its genre.

@@knightrider6167 lol it pretty much just had the dlcs. not even all of them if i recall correctly. if you didn't get deluxe (or the game at all for that matter), you didn't miss out on much. unless you wanted some cars you couldn't have used anyway since the multiplayer, the only way to use your own cars, was dead on arrival...
I downloaded the Trial, imported my Crew 2 cars, here's my thoughts: "Take away all combat, characters, humor and intelligence of GTA V, then build an arcade racer around the driving mechanics. Now remove all the life in the world, replace it with a combination of basic traffic and erratic ghost racers." Game feels like a demonstration for an unfinished project. Feels like being somewhere that's decorated for a party that hasn't started yet, you're there waiting with a couple other people. So many world assets imported from Crew 2, lame stock photo signage, like this is 2006? Not paying $70 for a dev to slap stock images around the world and generic Hawaiian phrases and call it AAA. Where does this idea come from that the quality has to be lower so it will run on PS4? Have you not played RDR2 or GT7 or any top 10 PS4 game? Only lazy devs make the "last gen" excuse. I predict TCM will be under $30 by Christmas '23. Should be a F2P game considering the quantity of microtransactions. Go play Genshin Impact for free then explain why this is worth $70. Doom 2016 is $5 right now, you could get so much quality game time for $70, don't reward Ubisoft Ivory Tower.
This is also coming from an ivory tower meat rider. I absolutely love the "the crew" series. But 70$ (even though its just 10$ more) is outrageous and should be at MOST 40$. The only reason you would even think about pre-ordering it is if you loved the second game that much
@@wolfynub1343 This is REALLY weird, the second game does better job at offroad and being arcade while the first game had iceskating steering and worse soundtrack and those stupid Destroy Crates missions, and the HP requirements for missions are.a blatant lie- one of stupid offroad timetrials from Crew1's main campaign reccomended me to get 200 more HP yet it was too easy to me- oh, and I liked Crew 2's offroad scenery way more than *cough* Horizon 3-5's ones *cough*

Getting cars in this game takes like 5 days to get em or if you want to waste your life... Well... There are races that gives you big rewards but they are like... Not worth it at all... It takes like HOURS and HOURS to finish them (1,4,6, 10!?!?!?) and your reward is... 100k... Seriously? 100k? All of that 10 hours wasted just for 100k?!? Fuck it. The Crew 2 and Motorfest is less boring. The story and gameplay and car list is alright, customization is awesome tho.
From what I heard tho, TC Motorfest still have old gen in mind, this is a cross gen game However, I remember TC1 and TC2 have pedestrian and wildlife, so I wonder why they can't here....
Thats the thing, Why do the exact same event with your own car you modified and upgraded since you already did with another car that is presetted by the game? It kills the purpose.
I had a lot of fun playing this game and I think it nailed some aspects really well like sound design and music selection, I enjoyed the playlists (some felt a bit grindy but not much), and the driving was actually kind of engaging instead of feeling like the car was driving itself. However, I STILL think the engines Ubisoft use are just not right for racing games, as we've seen with the janky driving phyisics, the weird screen-space reflections on the cars, and the performance issues. Another thing that really bugged me is that yesterday when I finished all the playlists, I found literally nothing to do (other than replaying them with the challenge things which I'm not even gonna bother doing tbh), I thought I would get like to use my cars in actual normal races but... there was nothing..? Like, what is the point of owning and upgrading the cars?!?! The entire thing felt like it was a really long intro to the game so I was expecting to be let free and do my own races and stuff at some point, but instead it was the battle pass thing. I assumed this was because of it being just a beta and them adding more content on launch, or at least more playlists or something. Yet another thing I didn't understand was their attempt at making the world feel more alive with the Drivatar things driving around which on multiple ocations scared the shit out of me and made me crash into traffic (and other players) because I would mistake them with those. I really want this game to succeed, after the massive failure TC2 was (at least to me), and because I think it felt unique enough, and competition really needs to be a thing in the racing game industry. I'll probably buy it but only on sale and if they actually add things to do. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Man snowrunner have working mirrors. And i think they will add pedestrians and animals if people start asking for them i know that they added animals in the crew 2 later with one update
I really hope people watch this through instead of pausing the first second based off the title and making a conclusion. I enjoyed the game a good bit and this is a great, balanced review. I agree with all of the positives here and most of the negatives. I personally like the competition of the Summit, I always have, but the car requirement is ridiculous. As for the playlists, I wouldn't have noticed or been bothered by the lack of freedom but as it does bother you, it is worth mentioning. The best part of this review to me is pointing out all of the things we tolerate in AAA racing games right now. Even though I enjoy most of them, there are annoyances in the back of my head that while they aren't dealbreakers, they are big headscratchers. Like you thought to yourself about "Why are others copying this dialogue, no one likes this" I tend to think to myself "Why can't we get rain effects that look as good as DRIVECLUB from nearly a decade ago?" Game development is complex. But from a consumer point of view, the issues like density in traffic, graphical effects, no working mirrors etc make no sense in a product right now. When you showed that clip of TC1 with the original graphics instantly my mind went "that looked better". As a visual junkie, it just doesn't make sense to me. I was about say "but Motorfest is cross-gen" but with that Crew 1 example, there is no excuse. Even though I enjoy Motorfest and will end up getting it (don't know when but I will) the game did have many head-scratching moments with me as well. I'd love to know why this happens with some of these games - are the visual artists just not as talented and the good ones went into other industries? Are the people working here feel like they "have" to make a festival racer and therefore feel less passionate versus a "new" project like The Crew 1? I don't know, and surely barely anyone here has any idea.
A lot of the issues at least in terms of the technological side is because they are releasing this game on old gen systems as it was originally suppose to be a expansion for The Crew 2 which is why it reuses a lot of assets. There's a reason why you can import your entire vehicle collection and liveries from TC2 and why the map is way smaller than it should be. The devs just decided to make it a standalone game (this isn't the first time ubisoft has done this) and ontop of that, the game has crossplay, which is good, but I'm almost certain the PC version has limitations due to that to prevent cheating/giving a advantage against old gen players. And while crossplay is a plus, it's only for grand races/the battle royal. You can't be in free roam with other cross play players which means you can't play through story missions with friends on other consoles. The Free roam session player count is also still really small with a 8 player limit. They aren't really treating this like a proper next gen sequel when they really should be. On the subject of FOMO, the summit reward cars from TC2 can't even be bought in Motorfest despite them being in the shop. All you get is that "A exclusive vehicle from The Crew 2" and that's it. I'd imagine it's going to be similar with any summit cars you miss in this game. I'm still getting the game on launch. I had a lot of fun with it. But I can't deny that it's an obvious cash grab since TC2 is really starting to show its age at this point so they are selling a expansion for full price when it's probably going to take months to a year, if not longer, to get a substantial amount of content that will make it feel like a proper sequel. If the whole fear of missing out thing doesn't bother you, you'd probably be better off waiting a few weeks to a month for the game to go on sale before you buy it. Games generally don't take long to go on sale these days.
For someone who never played TC2 and kept questioning the car import thing, this is invaluable info, I may wanna give this a pass and look into Solar Crown instead
Was very close to buying the Gold Edition of this game when I started playing the 5 hour trial. What turned me off it was the constant ghost cars driving into you and the fact that you can't use your own car for the races. Every car is a loan car, what's the point. There's also no real story to the game
I played the beta, for around 17 hours and loved it, to be honest, even the playlists. True you can not use your own cars, but it did not bother me at all to be fair, i enjoyed the variety of cars i had to use in those races and I also do not mind restarting them for the full games, I love the map in general and the fact that it is smaller is also good. I did not notice the missing people at all😂, same for the animals, but true they could and should add them into the game to make it more alive. For the multiplier, I only tried the Race and I loved it, was so fun and chaotic, first time in a while that I enjoyed multiplayer in a Racing game. Overall for someone that always wanted to try a Horizon game, this is the closest we get too and for someone that spent over 350 hours on The crew 2, motorfest is a massiv improvement, driving feels more fun and less weird, the map kinda feels more alive to me with all those plants (as I said, I hope they gone add people and animals, to make it better) . Even the Summit I do not mind, just sad that u have to be the top 10k for it. I might get the game on release as I did not buy a game day one since GT7 and I want a new racing game to play for a while, hopefully years😂
You say the multiplayer is fun now but wait until release There is no racing game I know of in the modern day that doesn't have cheaters running wild, ruining the game for everyone else

And the game is not childish at all, besides some cosmetics, which Unbound also added, if you do not like them, do not add them, fot my part I had a lot of fun and surprised that I spent over 17hours on it, I though I would spent max 4-5 hours on it. Something I’ve noticed with TC2 when the Summit requires a car that you could only get by spending CC (aka real money), like what they did either this week or last week with a Hummer variant, it becomes available for normal currency through the car bundles. The car was initially locked behind the Motorpass, but in the Summit bundle it was 170k (normal currency)
Also, having less traffic seems like a downside when you’re just driving around at the legal speed limit, but when you’re running about with a 400mph dragster, having a full gridlock is extremely infuriating, especially when you’re trying to do any Escape challenges in the Summit.
The fact the map is smaller is a immediate downside, nothing else matters to me when it comes to the crew. Just one hawaii island compared to the whole lower 48, that sucks. The crew 3 should have the base map with this island, or Canada + Mexico.

I mostly think Motorfest tries to be a mixture of Need for Speed, Battle royale, Forza Horizon, Forza Motorsport, and some other games. But in the system of the previous The Crew games. I respect your opinion tho ^^ I'd wait till it lowers to 20 or something.
The second you talked about dialogue it went from interested to definite no buy. I won't buy another game that's insists on talking at me the entire time with nothing useful to say to the point that I want to drive my car into a tree IRL like Horizon 5 does. Not to mention the common Ubi$oft L of doing Crew Credits to buy vehicles as if it were a F2P game. And that the car list barely has anything past 2020 and so many reskins.
The Summit is a competitive format, hence it works with leaderboards. It's not a casual gathering where you get everything for free, you actually have to earn it. But if you have upgraded vehicles and put a bit effort in it, it's not that hard to get in top 10.000
@@K3ntucky123 Cars for Summit are always on discount. Only 1 of 4 Summit events gives a car reward, so this doesn't seem grindy to me! The grindy thing about the Summit are LegendPoints.
I don't mind the competitive format of the Live Summit too much, but the scoring should be balanced and made so that everyone can have a chance to reach the top. Sure, having an upgraded car and better affixes that boost your score give you a better chance, but I would argue that even just pure stock cars should be able to earn enough points to challenge the top. At the very least, with all the platforms being combined into the leaderboard for the summit, the cutoff for the highest tiers should be increased. Like, seeing the much more strict cutoff in The Crew 2 gave me chills. I'm on the PS, so I have to reach at least top 11K for Platinum, but the poor blokes on Xbox are pretty much tearing each others' throats with that super strict top 2.1K cutoff for Platinum Tier.

To be fair, they switched from Dunia to Snowdrop and it's actually the first racing game using Snowdrop, so probably they still need to figure out how to implement stuff. BUT I think they should definitely address the issues, that it has currently, before release.
At this point i just feel like the term "Next Gen" is marketing speak. Besides a jump in graphical power, AAA games still can't implement split-screen co-op, whether its to force the player to buy multiple copies or the console is just not as poweful as hyped up to be.
TC1 was great, I preordered TC2 because the first one was so good and was severely disappointed, and now the moment I saw TCM I knew I wasn't gonna get it. Gotta thank Ubisoft tho for convincing me never to preorder ever again
When it was called Motorfest, i was hoping they were hinting that it was going to be like a spiritual successor to MOTORSTORM. No such luck. They dont celebrate teh crashes as they should, the festival feels trash, and continues the tradition of the 70 dollar curse. Notice every single game that's come out at 70 has been worse than games coming out at 60 base price. Even Armored Core is SLAUGHTERING right now as a decent game at 60 that knows it's a fun game above all else. 70 USD is proven to be a bad sign for all games if we go by statistics. And yes we need more arcade racers, cuz frankly we need more like MOTORSTORM back. There is none higher still, and we haven't had one of those new nor re mastered since the PS3/ xbox 360 age. Game developing and publishing both have become purely disgusting at large. And its in an age where certain facts cant be kept quiet either. Unlike the first Nintendo Age where OCEAN made an incomplete RoboCop game and hid the fact by making a level that couldn't be completed in time, aside from the fact they missed a glitch in the design that let you beat it faster, and then it showed the next level was incomplete. And when are we also going to start holding game companies legally liable when they dont complete a road map properly or change what they promise when something like Overwatch 2 suddenly bait and switches it's promise for a complete campaign ? But I could go on. I'll just say we really need MotorStorm back and end it here.
the map was great / the traffic is dynamic i think but you got a bug and didnt have any spawn . that was one of the few bright spots for me and the homies. we cruised at night and could hit top speed easier but once daytime hit , traffic increased so i think you had a bug that needs to be ironed out. i agree w most everything else
Regarding FOMO: they could always use Summits to force people to spend money on cars, but they've never done that. Worst thing they done was make an exclusive Eclipse that was buyable with crew credits only, but they eventually reconsidered and made it available to buy for regular in-game currency. Judging by the fact that the Crew 2 monetization got progressively better with time, plus they're allowing you to import basically everything to MF, I don't think they'd ever do such a stupid thing as making Summit events restricted to paid cars. And, BTW, in Crew 2 the Platinum reward was initially given to top 3000 players, now it's top 4000, and in MF it's 10000, so things get progressively better on this front as well.

I agree, I hated his point on FOMO, as it’s not removed content or exclusive content. Summit cars are easily one of the best additions. I like having things to show off my skill and especially a reward car makes that even cooler. It’s boring when everyone can get everything without working for it
You have presented some very good arguments for me to wait before buying. Single player is a big deal for me. If it doesn't deliver, I'm not interested in the game. The second thing is the Fomo content. I can't be bothered with that. I also play other games and don't want to have to constantly keep up to date with whether there might be something interesting somewhere for a limited time. I play games at my own pace. That's why I prefer single-player games.
This game is not really a new game. There is a new map, but every other aspect is the same as before. I feel like there was a lack of originality in the game and that something like the "import your cars" will ruin progression in the game. Which was already atrocious in TC2

I would buy this game twice if it has a 1:1 map. Otherwise there is no reason to play. TCM feels like a waste of your time and money. FH at least always had good graphics, which is not the case for The Crew.
I saw people say that this will be a Forza Horizon killer. I mean, if the game releases in a good state, it'll be a good competition, but seeing that the driving physics are almost the same as The Crew 2, I don't think it'll stand a chance at killing Forza Horizon. In fact, Forza Horizon has more chances of killing itself if they don't keep up with the good updates than getting killed by the release of another open world racing game.

The Crew Motorfest may not worth 70$, but in our area it only take about 40$, I may buy it on launch day. Or we can wait for a count in Halloween or Christmas.
They did the absolute bare minimum to repackage all the assets from 2 into this game. Its basically Ubisoft demanding a game out of Ivory Tower and they had to slap something together to sell at full price. The least effort possible. The in car mirrors are clear evidence of it. Its such a big deal because its such a basic bitch element. Its like not bothering to texture wheel sidewalls. Like you clearly just dont care.

Motorfest feels like what horizon 5 should have been, overall its pretty solid the races felt smooth and the A.I felt genuinely challenging at higher difficulty levels
You need to remember this was just a beta with most of the content locked and hidden so we need to wait and see about more multiplayer content and stuff closer to launch
I never understood why arcade racing games just could not copy handling model from either FH or Driver San Francisco ... car handling in those two is simplified, yet intuitive and with some basic logic around counter-steer control. The handling model is putting me off buying this.
I got a feeling that this was originally planned as a sort of expansion for the crew 2. With Ubisoft in the condition it is nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if they just blew the dust of a cancelled dlc project, padded it out a bit and slapped a full game pricetag on it. This is gamepass material for sure. 😂
You are 100% correct. This was essentially confirmed to have been originally planned as a DLC for the Crew 2. They just decided they could charge 70 for it and get away with it.
I won't buy it because it requires a Playstation Plus subscription in order to play the game. I don't usually play online games anyways so I couldn't even play the game if I bought it.
Finally they are not using the havok engine anymore! Made all cars feel like they're driving on Mars, like red faction guerrilla, which is incidentally also made in havok. Might check this out if I get it for dirt cheap, not paying 70 bucks for a game with 2 currencies. At that point I can just play Real Racing on my phone for free...

I hate how sterile and childish this game is. I gave up on TC2 very quickly for the same reasons despite having loved TC1 with its rough edges and all but the straw that broke the camel's back is how Ubisoft monetized and structures progression. The 'stories' are unbearably awful and their MotorFlix bullshit only exists to create FOMO. Playing the insider program for TCMF and seeing the in-game shop with my very own eyes destroyed any interest I had in it. Hopefully TDU:SC comes in hot to make a game that isn't watered down and stupid in every department.

I hope that one of these games will allow you to move the engine layout. There used to be a game about street racing that would allow you to move the engine to the front or the middle of the car and swap engines too. I wish I could remember the name of that game but they really made it realistic. I’d you wanted to swap a v8 into your miata you could but because there is a much space for it they wouldn’t allow make as much power as the same v8 in a bigger car because there wasn’t enough space for bigger turbos. On top of that you could add carbon fiber body panels and also if you painted the panels it would add weight. If anyone remembers this game please tell me. It might have been asetto corso or something like that.

In The Crew and The Crew 2, u had almost the entire United States to explore, but in The Crew Motorfest, u only have one of those States to explore which is Hawaii and the map is slightly smaller than that of The Crew and The Crew 2.
I watched an older vid of yours on your main channel about forza motorsport 6 basically having the same issue about locking you up into cars and races without freedom to drive your own cars. Horizon 3 used to be built with championships but you could also play the regular events if you wanted to.
This games is not worth 70 bucks since you don't own the game completely as it will requirel constant internet connection to play . The servers won't might be working on day of release resulting an outrage

Let's be real. The only aspect that is triple A about Ubishit anymore is the amount of money and resources they have, their games have been mediocre at best for a loooong time now
Bud if you want an arcade game just go to nfs hot pursuit remaster, rivals, heat, payback or just go back to the old forza games quit acting like their all dead. The fact you don't want racing games being realistic is low key mind blowing considering for forza and nfs and even grid all started game development wanting to resemble the real life racing scene thats literally what built all racing games in popularity was the "realistic" pursuits/chases with friends with "realistic" cars being able to make your own build to see how it truly matched up against others even if they are using the same car, one persons tune could destroy the others. Don't sit here and trash something just because it wasn't made with a 2007 gaming mindset. I was hoping this game was gonna be a bigger version of the crew 2 adding more cities and cars but its clear were not getting a full usa map like i wanted nor the additional cities they had potential to make but that doesn't mean they don't have good development ideas for the future, the amount of contradicting statements you make throughout the video is crazy😂
If I remember correctly I thought their company said this was gonna be a “FREE TO PLAY” game when they was showing their line up of games in a Ubisoft video… now it’s $70
I got to play the closed beta over the week-end, and I agree with all of your points, but I would like to point out that this game is coming out on last gen consoles as well (which may have caused some of the shortcomings you`ve mentioned), and the game isn`t final (they still have about a month to tweak some of this stuff), meaning they can still increase traffic, and add pedestrians and working mirrors (the traffic and pedestrians thing may be server related, and while in a crew with my brother, we would constantly dissapear and reappear on each other`s screens, much like what would happens in FH5 when it launched, so there`s that to consider too). In terms of the map, I was initially disappointed with the actual size (and still kind of am, even though I inew going in that it would be alot smaller), and while I did enjoy alot of the roads, the fact that the map has massive mountains and yet there are no asphalt roads that snake their way to the top and back down again is a massive wasted opportunity. There was a decent amount of elevation changes, but none of the roads are as steep and tight as I was hoping, nor do they change enough in elevation IMO, especially when there are dirt roads that do exactly that, and the map isn`t a 1:1 recreation of the roads anyway... In terms of the playlists, I`m bummed out that they do lend you the cars to use (which I guess makes sense, given the curated experience they`re going for), but I did notice that you actually need to purchase specific cars in order to unlock certain playlists (I noticed this because I had to buy the Taycan in order to unlock the Electric car playlist). There is still hope in this system, if they can give us a mix of playlists that require us to use our own cars (either by setting a requirement on brand, decade, country, power, ect) and giving us playlists that use a handfull of specific cars, but require us to own atleast one of the cars from the playlist in order to unlock it... As for the summit, it`s fundamentaly the same as the crew 2, in the sense that it requires you to either grind, cheat, or pay real money in order to get the rewards. I was hoping the blue currency would be gone, but that`s not the case, so I`m not surprised that it works the way it does... Despite all this, the fun factor is real, and much like the crew 2, this game is a great cruising game. I`d say it`s no less worthy of asking price than something like Unbound, for fun factor alone...
@andreanastacio9548 To add The option to turn off nitrous is pointless because on the hardest difficulty, the AI will crash into a wall and immediately catch up thanks to how over powered the nitrous is in the game. I hope In the future they fix the AI and add a manual/with clutch option for controller

They dont lock summit cars behind premium currency. You have no idea what youre talking about when it comes to the summit clearly. Its not a participation trophey.
Assetto corsa on pc is where it’s at the graphics look amazing and you can download any car you want and drive on tracks or real life roads like caynons that game is literally amazing all these new racing games are just ass 💀
Its a Ubisoft game that tries to emulate Horizon 5 in the same area many remember from TDU. Why not try something new?, atleast try a different area and not a highly stylized version of Oahu? This will make it a Horizon Copy- Cat without many benefits on old feeling tech. Seeing those dialogs and the forced vibes in the beginning I cringed hard. Also forcing that structured linear start ruins alot of replay value. I get that they wanted to make a fun game with great variety but certain stuff just isnt my style. Lets see how TDU SC turns out :)
I might be wrong but I just gotta add most of your cons of the game is because profit and money. They made more playable for last gen players so they can get more ppl to buy the game. Less things around the map means more fps for last gen
Things I forgot to mention, or didn't mention because there wasn't much to talk about:
- I liked the car list, however it felt a bit bloated with many duplicates (for example having 4 copies of an RX-7 for Drift, Drag, etc.)
- Customization was decent, could have been better if they separated lights and splitters into different categories. Wheel selection is still terrible
- Still not a huge fan of the upgrading system, but it's far more tolerable than in Payback for example
- Engine sounds are actually fantastic, ingame radio had a nice song selection as well
- The addition of fine tuning is great, but misses some options (gear ratios were missing as far as I know)
-Its still Grindy as hell, 20k wasn't enough time to buy one car. yes, ONE car for 20 or 90 races

Don't forget the Legends point system which are time gated in TCM!
These points can increase your nitrous power, refill speed, how much XP you earn, how much cash you earn, how fast you can travel through water, increasing your Treasure Frequency and loot quality, you drafting power, your maximum drafting distance, your speed when you get drafted, the distance whern this effect triggers, your tire wear in Pro Racing events, how fast you get your speed multiplier in drift events, how high the multiplier can get and how much extra speed you gain when you shift up in drag race events!
There are also a few minor once which I didn't list here!
You can only earn them Via the main stage by ranking up your timeline (Revisit Playlists, Compete against other Players and Explore the Island which is basically playing skill tests around the Island) or by competing in the Summit!
There's no way to earn them by playing through the game naturally like it was in the crew 2 and for me it's a Jupiter sized dealbreaker!
I will agree on no pedestrians and blurred mirrors, that needs to be fixed but what makes it even weirder is that it's not even a 1:1 of the map like tdu so blurred mirrors and having pedestrians shouldn't be a problem

I hope test drive solar crown is a good contender for this game . Between the fake ai's in freeroam, and cars that were in TC2 that still have half ass interior gauges (for ex. nismo gtr says push to start since TC2) i really hope a lot of things are fixed before released . Coming from insiders program , this beta was a step back for a lot of us who couldn't even get the game started.

For me, what makes The Crew signature feature is the massive map. Motorfest map doesn't feel massive to me, and having it set on Hawaii doesn't help either. People will just compare it with TDU.
EDIT: For FOMO Content, FH4 tried this method when they introduced Rip Rod, and to have it you need to place 1st in PvP drag race. It went as well as you expected, and this kind of event does not appear again.
FINALLY. Someone who actually explains the IMPORTANT parts of the game comparison. Realism, Arcadiness, driving physics etc. I had to skip all the guys only doing graphics and sand,water, destructible environment etc. Thank you sir!

Honestly the only thing that keeps bugging me is how Motorfest just feels more like a DLC than its own game. It was the combination of a smaller map (yet it looks well detailed) and the whole import your TC2 collection into the game. And what worries me more is how much content can even fit in Motorfest without it immediately getting repetitive or have races just going the same way or feel the same. I havent played the Beta myself I only know some stuff from reddit and youtube posts. There were some cool additions but I'm really worried on the longetivity of motorfest because I think TC2 crammed a lot of events in because of the huge map (albeit it was mostly empty at launch). So im still cautious when it comes to this game.
Motorfest was DLC for The Crew 2 at start but they changed it and made into standalone game with big price tag. I keep telling people that game is not worth money and to don't get hyped since i spent good amount of time in insider beta.
It was a DLC but then they got greedy and made it standalone game , just like the new upcoming AC game. Ubi got lazy AF and I really hate how people are praising it and saying it will compete with Horizon. Horizon might have fallen from H3 but it's still the best one in its genre.

I downloaded the Trial, imported my Crew 2 cars, here's my thoughts:
"Take away all combat, characters, humor and intelligence of GTA V, then build an arcade racer around the driving mechanics. Now remove all the life in the world, replace it with a combination of basic traffic and erratic ghost racers."
Game feels like a demonstration for an unfinished project. Feels like being somewhere that's decorated for a party that hasn't started yet, you're there waiting with a couple other people.
So many world assets imported from Crew 2, lame stock photo signage, like this is 2006? Not paying $70 for a dev to slap stock images around the world and generic Hawaiian phrases and call it AAA.
Where does this idea come from that the quality has to be lower so it will run on PS4? Have you not played RDR2 or GT7 or any top 10 PS4 game? Only lazy devs make the "last gen" excuse.
I predict TCM will be under $30 by Christmas '23. Should be a F2P game considering the quantity of microtransactions. Go play Genshin Impact for free then explain why this is worth $70. Doom 2016 is $5 right now, you could get so much quality game time for $70, don't reward Ubisoft Ivory Tower.

You can use your car after complete a race for the first time. I think is a good way to balance the cars that game offers and your cars
Thats the thing, Why do the exact same event with your own car you modified and upgraded since you already did with another car that is presetted by the game? It kills the purpose.

I had a lot of fun playing this game and I think it nailed some aspects really well like sound design and music selection, I enjoyed the playlists (some felt a bit grindy but not much), and the driving was actually kind of engaging instead of feeling like the car was driving itself. However, I STILL think the engines Ubisoft use are just not right for racing games, as we've seen with the janky driving phyisics, the weird screen-space reflections on the cars, and the performance issues.
Another thing that really bugged me is that yesterday when I finished all the playlists, I found literally nothing to do (other than replaying them with the challenge things which I'm not even gonna bother doing tbh), I thought I would get like to use my cars in actual normal races but... there was nothing..? Like, what is the point of owning and upgrading the cars?!?! The entire thing felt like it was a really long intro to the game so I was expecting to be let free and do my own races and stuff at some point, but instead it was the battle pass thing. I assumed this was because of it being just a beta and them adding more content on launch, or at least more playlists or something.
Yet another thing I didn't understand was their attempt at making the world feel more alive with the Drivatar things driving around which on multiple ocations scared the shit out of me and made me crash into traffic (and other players) because I would mistake them with those.
I really want this game to succeed, after the massive failure TC2 was (at least to me), and because I think it felt unique enough, and competition really needs to be a thing in the racing game industry. I'll probably buy it but only on sale and if they actually add things to do.

I really hope people watch this through instead of pausing the first second based off the title and making a conclusion. I enjoyed the game a good bit and this is a great, balanced review. I agree with all of the positives here and most of the negatives. I personally like the competition of the Summit, I always have, but the car requirement is ridiculous. As for the playlists, I wouldn't have noticed or been bothered by the lack of freedom but as it does bother you, it is worth mentioning.
The best part of this review to me is pointing out all of the things we tolerate in AAA racing games right now. Even though I enjoy most of them, there are annoyances in the back of my head that while they aren't dealbreakers, they are big headscratchers.
Like you thought to yourself about "Why are others copying this dialogue, no one likes this" I tend to think to myself "Why can't we get rain effects that look as good as DRIVECLUB from nearly a decade ago?" Game development is complex. But from a consumer point of view, the issues like density in traffic, graphical effects, no working mirrors etc make no sense in a product right now. When you showed that clip of TC1 with the original graphics instantly my mind went "that looked better". As a visual junkie, it just doesn't make sense to me. I was about say "but Motorfest is cross-gen" but with that Crew 1 example, there is no excuse.
Even though I enjoy Motorfest and will end up getting it (don't know when but I will) the game did have many head-scratching moments with me as well. I'd love to know why this happens with some of these games - are the visual artists just not as talented and the good ones went into other industries? Are the people working here feel like they "have" to make a festival racer and therefore feel less passionate versus a "new" project like The Crew 1? I don't know, and surely barely anyone here has any idea.

A lot of the issues at least in terms of the technological side is because they are releasing this game on old gen systems as it was originally suppose to be a expansion for The Crew 2 which is why it reuses a lot of assets. There's a reason why you can import your entire vehicle collection and liveries from TC2 and why the map is way smaller than it should be. The devs just decided to make it a standalone game (this isn't the first time ubisoft has done this) and ontop of that, the game has crossplay, which is good, but I'm almost certain the PC version has limitations due to that to prevent cheating/giving a advantage against old gen players. And while crossplay is a plus, it's only for grand races/the battle royal. You can't be in free roam with other cross play players which means you can't play through story missions with friends on other consoles. The Free roam session player count is also still really small with a 8 player limit. They aren't really treating this like a proper next gen sequel when they really should be.
On the subject of FOMO, the summit reward cars from TC2 can't even be bought in Motorfest despite them being in the shop. All you get is that "A exclusive vehicle from The Crew 2" and that's it. I'd imagine it's going to be similar with any summit cars you miss in this game.
I'm still getting the game on launch. I had a lot of fun with it. But I can't deny that it's an obvious cash grab since TC2 is really starting to show its age at this point so they are selling a expansion for full price when it's probably going to take months to a year, if not longer, to get a substantial amount of content that will make it feel like a proper sequel. If the whole fear of missing out thing doesn't bother you, you'd probably be better off waiting a few weeks to a month for the game to go on sale before you buy it. Games generally don't take long to go on sale these days.
For someone who never played TC2 and kept questioning the car import thing, this is invaluable info, I may wanna give this a pass and look into Solar Crown instead

Was very close to buying the Gold Edition of this game when I started playing the 5 hour trial. What turned me off it was the constant ghost cars driving into you and the fact that you can't use your own car for the races. Every car is a loan car, what's the point. There's also no real story to the game
I played the beta, for around 17 hours and loved it, to be honest, even the playlists. True you can not use your own cars, but it did not bother me at all to be fair, i enjoyed the variety of cars i had to use in those races and I also do not mind restarting them for the full games, I love the map in general and the fact that it is smaller is also good. I did not notice the missing people at all😂, same for the animals, but true they could and should add them into the game to make it more alive. For the multiplier, I only tried the Race and I loved it, was so fun and chaotic, first time in a while that I enjoyed multiplayer in a Racing game. Overall for someone that always wanted to try a Horizon game, this is the closest we get too and for someone that spent over 350 hours on The crew 2, motorfest is a massiv improvement, driving feels more fun and less weird, the map kinda feels more alive to me with all those plants (as I said, I hope they gone add people and animals, to make it better) . Even the Summit I do not mind, just sad that u have to be the top 10k for it.
I might get the game on release as I did not buy a game day one since GT7 and I want a new racing game to play for a while, hopefully years😂

Something I’ve noticed with TC2 when the Summit requires a car that you could only get by spending CC (aka real money), like what they did either this week or last week with a Hummer variant, it becomes available for normal currency through the car bundles.
The car was initially locked behind the Motorpass, but in the Summit bundle it was 170k (normal currency)
Also, having less traffic seems like a downside when you’re just driving around at the legal speed limit, but when you’re running about with a 400mph dragster, having a full gridlock is extremely infuriating, especially when you’re trying to do any Escape challenges in the Summit.

The fact the map is smaller is a immediate downside, nothing else matters to me when it comes to the crew. Just one hawaii island compared to the whole lower 48, that sucks. The crew 3 should have the base map with this island, or Canada + Mexico.

I mostly think Motorfest tries to be a mixture of Need for Speed, Battle royale, Forza Horizon, Forza Motorsport, and some other games. But in the system of the previous The Crew games. I respect your opinion tho ^^

Why say don't buy the game over a beta
The second you talked about dialogue it went from interested to definite no buy. I won't buy another game that's insists on talking at me the entire time with nothing useful to say to the point that I want to drive my car into a tree IRL like Horizon 5 does. Not to mention the common Ubi$oft L of doing Crew Credits to buy vehicles as if it were a F2P game. And that the car list barely has anything past 2020 and so many reskins.
The Summit is a competitive format, hence it works with leaderboards. It's not a casual gathering where you get everything for free, you actually have to earn it. But if you have upgraded vehicles and put a bit effort in it, it's not that hard to get in top 10.000

@@K3ntucky123 Cars for Summit are always on discount. Only 1 of 4 Summit events gives a car reward, so this doesn't seem grindy to me! The grindy thing about the Summit are LegendPoints.
I don't mind the competitive format of the Live Summit too much, but the scoring should be balanced and made so that everyone can have a chance to reach the top. Sure, having an upgraded car and better affixes that boost your score give you a better chance, but I would argue that even just pure stock cars should be able to earn enough points to challenge the top. At the very least, with all the platforms being combined into the leaderboard for the summit, the cutoff for the highest tiers should be increased.
Like, seeing the much more strict cutoff in The Crew 2 gave me chills. I'm on the PS, so I have to reach at least top 11K for Platinum, but the poor blokes on Xbox are pretty much tearing each others' throats with that super strict top 2.1K cutoff for Platinum Tier.

To be fair, they switched from Dunia to Snowdrop and it's actually the first racing game using Snowdrop, so probably they still need to figure out how to implement stuff. BUT I think they should definitely address the issues, that it has currently, before release.
At this point i just feel like the term "Next Gen" is marketing speak. Besides a jump in graphical power, AAA games still can't implement split-screen co-op, whether its to force the player to buy multiple copies or the console is just not as poweful as hyped up to be.
TC1 was great, I preordered TC2 because the first one was so good and was severely disappointed, and now the moment I saw TCM I knew I wasn't gonna get it. Gotta thank Ubisoft tho for convincing me never to preorder ever again

When it was called Motorfest, i was hoping they were hinting that it was going to be like a spiritual successor to MOTORSTORM.
No such luck. They dont celebrate teh crashes as they should, the festival feels trash, and continues the tradition of the 70 dollar curse.
Notice every single game that's come out at 70 has been worse than games coming out at 60 base price. Even Armored Core is SLAUGHTERING right now as a decent game at 60 that knows it's a fun game above all else.
70 USD is proven to be a bad sign for all games if we go by statistics.
And yes we need more arcade racers, cuz frankly we need more like MOTORSTORM back.

Game developing and publishing both have become purely disgusting at large. And its in an age where certain facts cant be kept quiet either. Unlike the first Nintendo Age where OCEAN made an incomplete RoboCop game and hid the fact by making a level that couldn't be completed in time, aside from the fact they missed a glitch in the design that let you beat it faster, and then it showed the next level was incomplete.
And when are we also going to start holding game companies legally liable when they dont complete a road map properly or change what they promise when something like Overwatch 2 suddenly bait and switches it's promise for a complete campaign ? But I could go on.
I'll just say we really need MotorStorm back and end it here.
the map was great / the traffic is dynamic i think but you got a bug and didnt have any spawn . that was one of the few bright spots for me and the homies. we cruised at night and could hit top speed easier but once daytime hit , traffic increased so i think you had a bug that needs to be ironed out. i agree w most everything else

Regarding FOMO: they could always use Summits to force people to spend money on cars, but they've never done that. Worst thing they done was make an exclusive Eclipse that was buyable with crew credits only, but they eventually reconsidered and made it available to buy for regular in-game currency. Judging by the fact that the Crew 2 monetization got progressively better with time, plus they're allowing you to import basically everything to MF, I don't think they'd ever do such a stupid thing as making Summit events restricted to paid cars. And, BTW, in Crew 2 the Platinum reward was initially given to top 3000 players, now it's top 4000, and in MF it's 10000, so things get progressively better on this front as well.

I agree, I hated his point on FOMO, as it’s not removed content or exclusive content. Summit cars are easily one of the best additions. I like having things to show off my skill and especially a reward car makes that even cooler. It’s boring when everyone can get everything without working for it

You have presented some very good arguments for me to wait before buying. Single player is a big deal for me. If it doesn't deliver, I'm not interested in the game. The second thing is the Fomo content. I can't be bothered with that. I also play other games and don't want to have to constantly keep up to date with whether there might be something interesting somewhere for a limited time. I play games at my own pace. That's why I prefer single-player games.
This game is not really a new game.
There is a new map, but every other aspect is the same as before.
I feel like there was a lack of originality in the game and that something like the "import your cars" will ruin progression in the game. Which was already atrocious in TC2

TCM has good graphics I mean by today standards they are amazing also it is 1:1 with 1:1 recreation on Maui and other hawiann islands
I saw people say that this will be a Forza Horizon killer.
I mean, if the game releases in a good state, it'll be a good competition, but seeing that the driving physics are almost the same as The Crew 2, I don't think it'll stand a chance at killing Forza Horizon. In fact, Forza Horizon has more chances of killing itself if they don't keep up with the good updates than getting killed by the release of another open world racing game.

The Crew Motorfest may not worth 70$, but in our area it only take about 40$, I may buy it on launch day. Or we can wait for a count in Halloween or Christmas.
I don't think I'd ever pay $70 for a Crew game. The cars look good, but the environments are lifeless and dated looking.
They did the absolute bare minimum to repackage all the assets from 2 into this game. Its basically Ubisoft demanding a game out of Ivory Tower and they had to slap something together to sell at full price. The least effort possible. The in car mirrors are clear evidence of it. Its such a big deal because its such a basic bitch element. Its like not bothering to texture wheel sidewalls. Like you clearly just dont care.

Motorfest feels like what horizon 5 should have been, overall its pretty solid the races felt smooth and the A.I felt genuinely challenging at higher difficulty levels

I never understood why arcade racing games just could not copy handling model from either FH or Driver San Francisco ... car handling in those two is simplified, yet intuitive and with some basic logic around counter-steer control. The handling model is putting me off buying this.

you can invite players into a crew and then you can do races in multiplayer. tc2 and tc1 had competitive multiplayer but it was barely used.
I got a feeling that this was originally planned as a sort of expansion for the crew 2. With Ubisoft in the condition it is nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if they just blew the dust of a cancelled dlc project, padded it out a bit and slapped a full game pricetag on it. This is gamepass material for sure. 😂
You are 100% correct. This was essentially confirmed to have been originally planned as a DLC for the Crew 2. They just decided they could charge 70 for it and get away with it.
I won't buy it because it requires a Playstation Plus subscription in order to play the game. I don't usually play online games anyways so I couldn't even play the game if I bought it.
I hope the game will be good after a few patches (and once its finished ofcourse), The crew 2 also got better after a long time.
if you go in a crew and enter a normal event you can invite your crew to the event to play multiplayer

Finally they are not using the havok engine anymore! Made all cars feel like they're driving on Mars, like red faction guerrilla, which is incidentally also made in havok.
Might check this out if I get it for dirt cheap, not paying 70 bucks for a game with 2 currencies. At that point I can just play Real Racing on my phone for free...

I hate how sterile and childish this game is. I gave up on TC2 very quickly for the same reasons despite having loved TC1 with its rough edges and all but the straw that broke the camel's back is how Ubisoft monetized and structures progression. The 'stories' are unbearably awful and their MotorFlix bullshit only exists to create FOMO. Playing the insider program for TCMF and seeing the in-game shop with my very own eyes destroyed any interest I had in it. Hopefully TDU:SC comes in hot to make a game that isn't watered down and stupid in every department.

I hope that one of these games will allow you to move the engine layout. There used to be a game about street racing that would allow you to move the engine to the front or the middle of the car and swap engines too. I wish I could remember the name of that game but they really made it realistic. I’d you wanted to swap a v8 into your miata you could but because there is a much space for it they wouldn’t allow make as much power as the same v8 in a bigger car because there wasn’t enough space for bigger turbos. On top of that you could add carbon fiber body panels and also if you painted the panels it would add weight. If anyone remembers this game please tell me. It might have been asetto corso or something like that.

In The Crew and The Crew 2, u had almost the entire United States to explore, but in The Crew Motorfest, u only have one of those States to explore which is Hawaii and the map is slightly smaller than that of The Crew and The Crew 2.
Car handing is bad. The car zifzags and can't hold a smooth trajectory around corners. Compared to FH5 and NFS Unbound, it's night and day.

I watched an older vid of yours on your main channel about forza motorsport 6 basically having the same issue about locking you up into cars and races without freedom to drive your own cars. Horizon 3 used to be built with championships but you could also play the regular events if you wanted to.
This games is not worth 70 bucks since you don't own the game completely as it will requirel constant internet connection to play . The servers won't might be working on day of release resulting an outrage

Bud if you want an arcade game just go to nfs hot pursuit remaster, rivals, heat, payback or just go back to the old forza games quit acting like their all dead. The fact you don't want racing games being realistic is low key mind blowing considering for forza and nfs and even grid all started game development wanting to resemble the real life racing scene thats literally what built all racing games in popularity was the "realistic" pursuits/chases with friends with "realistic" cars being able to make your own build to see how it truly matched up against others even if they are using the same car, one persons tune could destroy the others. Don't sit here and trash something just because it wasn't made with a 2007 gaming mindset. I was hoping this game was gonna be a bigger version of the crew 2 adding more cities and cars but its clear were not getting a full usa map like i wanted nor the additional cities they had potential to make but that doesn't mean they don't have good development ideas for the future, the amount of contradicting statements you make throughout the video is crazy😂

I got to play the closed beta over the week-end, and I agree with all of your points, but I would like to point out that this game is coming out on last gen consoles as well (which may have caused some of the shortcomings you`ve mentioned), and the game isn`t final (they still have about a month to tweak some of this stuff), meaning they can still increase traffic, and add pedestrians and working mirrors (the traffic and pedestrians thing may be server related, and while in a crew with my brother, we would constantly dissapear and reappear on each other`s screens, much like what would happens in FH5 when it launched, so there`s that to consider too).
In terms of the map, I was initially disappointed with the actual size (and still kind of am, even though I inew going in that it would be alot smaller), and while I did enjoy alot of the roads, the fact that the map has massive mountains and yet there are no asphalt roads that snake their way to the top and back down again is a massive wasted opportunity. There was a decent amount of elevation changes, but none of the roads are as steep and tight as I was hoping, nor do they change enough in elevation IMO, especially when there are dirt roads that do exactly that, and the map isn`t a 1:1 recreation of the roads anyway...
In terms of the playlists, I`m bummed out that they do lend you the cars to use (which I guess makes sense, given the curated experience they`re going for), but I did notice that you actually need to purchase specific cars in order to unlock certain playlists (I noticed this because I had to buy the Taycan in order to unlock the Electric car playlist). There is still hope in this system, if they can give us a mix of playlists that require us to use our own cars (either by setting a requirement on brand, decade, country, power, ect) and giving us playlists that use a handfull of specific cars, but require us to own atleast one of the cars from the playlist in order to unlock it...
As for the summit, it`s fundamentaly the same as the crew 2, in the sense that it requires you to either grind, cheat, or pay real money in order to get the rewards. I was hoping the blue currency would be gone, but that`s not the case, so I`m not surprised that it works the way it does...
Despite all this, the fun factor is real, and much like the crew 2, this game is a great cruising game. I`d say it`s no less worthy of asking price than something like Unbound, for fun factor alone...

@andreanastacio9548 To add The option to turn off nitrous is pointless because on the hardest difficulty, the AI will crash into a wall and immediately catch up thanks to how over powered the nitrous is in the game. I hope In the future they fix the AI and add a manual/with clutch option for controller

Assetto corsa on pc is where it’s at the graphics look amazing and you can download any car you want and drive on tracks or real life roads like caynons that game is literally amazing all these new racing games are just ass 💀

Its a Ubisoft game that tries to emulate Horizon 5 in the same area many remember from TDU. Why not try something new?, atleast try a different area and not a highly stylized version of Oahu? This will make it a Horizon Copy- Cat without many benefits on old feeling tech. Seeing those dialogs and the forced vibes in the beginning I cringed hard. Also forcing that structured linear start ruins alot of replay value. I get that they wanted to make a fun game with great variety but certain stuff just isnt my style. Lets see how TDU SC turns out :)

I might be wrong but I just gotta add most of your cons of the game is because profit and money. They made more playable for last gen players so they can get more ppl to buy the game. Less things around the map means more fps for last gen
