    This scene gave me chills, the lighting isn't a gimmick, it isn't rushed. It's Hannibals glimpse into the inferno, a look at the internal wreckage of an emotionally and mentally shattered human being. The drawing analysis was a beautiful touch, the signs of someone who can't cope with what they've endured... it's absolutely chilling.

    When a psycho killer gets into the head of another psycho killer and feels his part of justification of his wrong doings the natural reaction is tears through eyes. Wow greatly portrayed by Sir Antony Hopkins.

    I don't like the background light but Sir Hopkins monologue is just amazing showing some kind of empathy for Buffalo Bill, you can feel the sympathy on his voice. Well, that is for sure a Super-duper-duper-duper-duper-duper moment.

    In a way, I'm glad this was not in the final cut-it's too overwhelming and powerful. The climax of the movie, for me, at least the emotional climax, is Starling's revelations about the screaming lambs. Lecter sheds a tear there, and I think he should only shed a tear once. That was the moment for it. This scene features some fantastic acting, but all this emotion and sympathy, the only time he expresses it, has to come out of his relationship with Starling, whom he loves. If he loves anyone.

    • @Threesom666

    • @YamDelgado

      He have tears on his eyes not because of sentimentalism about what he is telling, but because he was with his eyes open without blinking in the whole scene, try to do the same and you will see your eyes will start to tear.

    • @tommydarko1984

      This and also they didn't want him to give too much information, he was manipulating Agent Starling to get what he wanted. If they included this, it shows a weakness which may make him vulnerable to being used instead. Quid pro quo, Clarice.

    • @chrisbirch4150
      @chrisbirch4150 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, the acting was decent, but this made Lector seem less in control with his emotions than the rest of the film implied. The character is manipulative, but stoic. It's better if he is passionate in his communication but unperturbed by the implications.

    I love that these deleted scenes are available for us to watch, but I can see why they were cut. Both have a different flow that seems out of place, although it might be different with the soundtrack to match the mood. The second scene in which Hannibal is basically telling Clarice the info she needs, feels REALLY out of place; the rest of the movie he's made her work everything out herself. They're brilliant scenes on their own, and all Clarice/Hannibal scenes are amazing, but they'd feel odd if they were left in.

      You can see it takes Anthony Hopkins awhile to re-emerge from underneath Hannibal Lecter's personality. I'm betting that if you had placed a dish with raw human hearts in front of him then, he would have gobbled them up without a second's hesitation.

    • @darkprose
      @darkprose 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      It doesn't seem like him, which is why it is so powerful and climactic when Starling's story of the screaming lambs moves him to tears. That is the true payoff for this character and it could only be in that context. Starling's haunted pain resonates somewhere inside of him, and more deeply than the pleasure he receives from sucking the pain out of others, like the Senator. Shortly after this, he drew a portrait of Starling holding a lamb like Mary held Christ; he orders lamb for dinner, extra rare.

    • @Theemptythroneistaken
      @Theemptythroneistaken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@darkprose I thought that myself that when clarice told him her childhood story about the lamb that it actually for a second made him seem human! Perhaps he looked upset because he actually deeply DEEPLY loves clarice and would kill anyone who would harm her or even take her away from him.

      It's a very beautiful scene, the acting from them both is sublime, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word; they both touch on something that transcends. It's one of my favourite scenes in cinema. Silence of the Lambs is a love story in a lot of ways, I think it has more in common with Lost In Translation than it does with the likes of Seven or other thrillers.

      he has always said "good morning." it is not the mandela effect anymore than 'luke i am your father" being the correct statement - people are fallible and incorrectly remember things. enough idiots in the media repeat the error, and here we are 28 years later with "hello clarice" still being incorrectly quoted.

    • @eduardo_corrochio
      @eduardo_corrochio 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people mistakenly recall his first line as "Hello, Clarice". But if you think about it, for a first encounter, this greeting would be entirely too casual and intimate for someone like him. I think maybe the "Hello, Clarice" line is heard in the final scene, on the phone.

      Interesting, do you think they would have edited out the tears?

    • @Lietiel
      @Lietiel 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      DeathCreationist I wouldn't have. It would be neat to see how different stimuli affect Lecter's passions. To see him tear up over imagining Billy's childhood mindset would be an intriguing nuance.

    • @TheEternalOuroboros
      @TheEternalOuroboros 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Lietiel I feel if they showed that it would destroy Lecter's image. make him look weak and vunerable, therefore he wouldn't show it. Hannibal wouldn't give a fuck about Billies childhood one bit, after seeing the movies and reading the books, he doesn't care lmao. no emotion- no weakness.

    • @Lietiel
      @Lietiel 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      DeathCreationist But he is vulnerable. He's just very guarded about it. In the books, there are a few instances where he breaks down and screams over the memory of his sister Mischa. Will Graham points out that passion is one of Lecter's two weaknesses (the other being his egotistical need to be the smartest person in the room). And Thomas Harris himself states that Clarice has the ability to frighten Lecter, indicating that the Doctor's emotional complexity involves vulnerability.
      I doubt that Lecter would consciously show his weaknesses to others, but his weaknesses are there nevertheless. He simply represses them and armors himself with detachment.

  • @Alan_Page
