the most amazing part of this story is that Jonah had the respect to NOT ask Martin what the problem was with his performance after doing so many takes.....he kept his mouth shut and did what he was told no matter what!
Wait, so Scorsese is like a master troll? First he makes him nervous and sweat just to have an excuse to read the newspaper, to then making Jonah think he is some kind of genius?
As long as you can get A lot of screen time and do cool stuff on camera, me too!!! Loved Goodfellas and Casino , so as an aspiring actor MYSELF, I definitely would work for free for Scorsese and most definitely... Steven Spielberg!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞🎬🎬🎬🎬🎥🎥🎥📽️📽️📽️📽️
why is everyone here giving hate to this story?? I've heard many other interviews with actors working with renowned directors who've done some weird stuff. it just happened to work in the moment and made for a nice take idk why everyone's taking this so bad
@@richierich2229....that's not true lol. Look closely enough at most celebrities and you'll that a huge amount had some kind of connection to the industry.
Hey guys if you didn't know this already Scorsese had the option to become a child molesting Catholic priest, or a Hollywood bigshot who has directed some of the most violent movies in American history. Cool story right? I'm just wonder if Martin experienced both worlds?
So basically after the break they did it a couple more times, Jonah was exactly the same, and Scorsese thought "Ugh, guess that's the best it's gonna be, let's just move on..."
Giving direction is probably not always the answer, different directors have different styles. Scorsese is at a point in his career where he probably does not need to worry about time as much as other directors. And as Jonah said they only had those two scenes probably around 3-4 PGS to do in one day which is not a lot in terms of dialog scenes (There is no special effects, stuns, choreography in the scenes). He had the option of just taking time to relax everyone down instead of giving someone specific details on how to fix it, specific instructions can often make the situation worse rather then better when nerves are involved. This is a situation he has probably been in more times then we can Imagine and as per the video clip above he handled it like he's Martin F**** Scorsese and got the best out of it. What a legend!
You can't just tell an actor to relax if they're physically not relaxed because they're on a film set with Martin Scorsese. If it was so easy everyone would do it.
That is actually bad directing I have to admit - the film is great - Scorsese is great - but no need to waste time for everybody and make the actor repeat the same scene with no actual notes to make it better?! Humiliating him in front of all crew for a 2 min scene on the phone - it makes a good story for Jonah... still unproductive
Considering his output lol, I think Scorsese was right in that instead of pointing what Jonah needs to do and telling him to relax or shouting it in front of the whole crew, maybe repeating it until he did and then seeing that wasn't working to take a break until he was relaxed and then doing it successfully was the right way to go.
Wouldn't a great director explain to the actor what he wasn't doing right in order to make him happy? Seems like a huge waste of time because of a huge ego.
Jonah Hill seems like such a nice and
affectionate guy
MRA 1 Jonah is still so sexy ;)
Tash Chica lol
Yeah

It has nothing to do with respect. If he asked him what was the problem, it wouldn't be considered as disrespect.
How on earth is lack of communication respect? That makes no logical sense.
Jonah always has the best stories to tell...
Dhrit ; the way he tells stories he's super hot ;)
You mean jonah bo-bona?
it's cause he's a compulsive liar
Wait, so Scorsese is like a master troll? First he makes him nervous and sweat just to have an excuse to read the newspaper, to then making Jonah think he is some kind of genius?
oh wow
Good Morning U.S.A! lol
You know shit about actors obviously.
Or it’s a director teaching a young actor to give up the ”anxiety takes over me” mindset & the world learns it from Jonah.
lmao.
Working with Scorsese! I would do it for nothing. The absolute master of filmmaking.
@Juani Di Cianni bless you to my brother.

Jonah Hill also did it for nothing (for the minimum salary required by the union).
Jonah looks good with a beard and the hair like that. Keep it Jonah
The studio should have payed him a decent wage AFTER he killed that performance. Amazing supportive role!
It was Jonah’s choice to work for minimum because he wanted to work with Scorsese so badly.
Jonah start to look like Zach Galifianakis
or any of the other millions of chubby bearded white guys

@@patronsttroll5712 maybe 10% made it from the bottom of say, pulling that out my arse tho
Great ep.. Besides them interrupting each other (Bill interrupting Jonah)
Holy shit he lost a lot of weight.
Nice !
Nice.
Yeah she's my cousin but it ain't like that
direction without directing
want to relax your hands, ok, squeeze your hands so much as hard as you can, take a deep breath and let go.
WTF this works
The Sam Peckinpah, Wild Bunch story is better.
"After like 20 minutes... After five to seven minutes..."
What?
Hill started to relax after five minutes and they reshot the scene after twenty.
Sometimes when people speak they remember they want to say something else first and start over
jonah is so headass that Scorsese needed to bring him down to earth
What the hell does "headass" mean?
30 takes... with zero direction.
hush Jonah.
His hands are weirdly small
Careful you might push him into running for President.
NOBODY LOOK NOBODY LOOK NOBODY LOOK

Never used enough this guy?
So basically after the break they did it a couple more times, Jonah was exactly the same, and Scorsese thought "Ugh, guess that's the best it's gonna be, let's just move on..."
oh come on don't be mean lol
just rude behavior from scorsese...no other meaning to be taken from here. just because jonah is a nobody compared to him, he cant say the fact
Pity he couldn't have just said something, given DIRECTION! [ a director ] instead of blowing 20 takes and 20 mins.

What the fuck do you know about directing
Or it was ultimately a bonding moment, and he didn't have to do anything like that for the rest of the movie.

I'd imagine he figured that telling Jonah would only get him further into his own head. The point was he had to relax. That's what I took from it.
Well to me he figured it out himself
Because explaining doesn't mean they'll do it. Especially telling someone to relax.
Making someone relax now that's quite different
When did jonah hill become some pretentious.. asking for a friend
Around 2012 I think
Its called luck and bad casting. Remember Scorsese do not choose his actors, unless you are Tom hanks, Dicaprio or Day-lewis.
Vincent Video De Niro?
Are you crazy???? Do you actually think Scorsese doesn't help pick the actors in his movies???? You are completely uninformed.
