The liquid nitrogen trick worked so well that it took until the LN burned off for the bomb to explode, 20-30 min if I remember right. They could have just got up, walked to the kitchen made a few sandwiches, and then left.
The "underwater reveal" really got a strong reaction from the audience in theater. Traditionally this would be the start of the "race to save the damsel in distress" moment, and that twist was a real gut punch.
Damn, you two are friends for so long, and still your on-screen chemistry, the little jokes, the friendly banter seems to get better and better with every reaction. It's just so much fun watching you watch movies. Love both of you.
When I was younger we would party a lot and got bags of free Condoms from the health clinic. They were always colorful so we put them on the Xmas tree one year as a joke bit jokes on us every weekend there were less on the tree lmao
Not till after they watch Lethal Weapon 3! Loaded Weapon 1 makes references to the first three Lethal Weapon movies. But they should also watch Wayne's World for those references first, and probably a few 80s and 90s commercials.

The gas tank would get ruptured during a rear end collision, and sparks from the bumpers would ignite the fuel. The station wagon was just as safe as any other vehicle during the same time. I loved my 72 Pinto wagon until a tree fell on it.

I love LW3, the building they blew up in the beginning I was there when they blew it up. It was the old city hall in downtown Orlando and a big deal when it happened. I wish they did more practical effects now a days
One of the best "buddy cop" movies of the genre! This one (the second one) was my favorite, followed closely by the first. But the whole series was really good. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover worked really well on screen together, along with Joe Pesci. Another of the really good buddy cop movie series from the 80's was "Beverly Hills Cop" (again, especially the first two). I watched all of these as a teenager growing up in the 80's and besides the nostalgia factor, they were really damned good entertainment!
Joe got his “ok” from when he went to Disneyland, and whenever he asked for directions to fantasy land the teenage employees would say “ok” like Joe Pesci was saying the movie before giving him directions.
The stilt house is the Garcia house (John Lautner was the architect) it can be found still standing at 7436 Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills. While the real house was used in the move the house that's destroyed by Riggs was a replica built on a backlot at Warner Studios. Patsy Kensit who played Riggs girlfriend stated acting as a child in a Birds Eye frozen peas ad before going on to have a UK top ten hit in 1988 with a song called I'm Not Scared (written by the Pet Shop Boys) the song can be heard in LW2 but was not included on the soundtrack.
The cool thing about the toilet bomb and their escape was that it _is_ actually possible. Mythbusters tested it, and found that pouring liquid nitrogen over the bomb and battery introduced a delay of 15 minutes; Riggs and Murtagh could have just walked out.
Diplomatic Immunity never worked the way this movie portrays. The police would have notified the state department, and barring any major worldwide issues (the possibility of a multinational war), the South African diplomats would have been deported and the consulate shut down. This would have set back relations between the two countries, but the onus would be on South Africa to make things right. But I still love the movie. I put this one right up there with the first one.
Wow, I'm soo impressed when you Simone said-- "They did sound dutch" during the car chase in the begining. Considering that the bad guys are from South Africa, and they speak Afrikaan, and that is pretty close to Dutch(the language in Netherlands). It was the same language back in the days, but they have evolved a little bit different due to the time that has passed.

I might've missed the mark entirely, but I just figured it was dark humour about the frequently dire drug habits of jazz musicians back in the day, with the risk of passing away while having a fix in the bathroom.
Another great Mel Gibson action movie is 'Payback' (only the directors cut though - its one of those few movies, where the cut changes a lot about the story...) it also got an excellent Lucy Liu in it!
Payback is good ... although there's some debate about what version you might actually want to watch. I've seen at least two or three different cuts of it and the overall "feel" is the same - there are some VERY different scenes & it's put together very differently in the different cuts
Honestly I rather preferred the theatrical with Kris Kristofferson as the boss. Ending was rather more coherent compared to the 'Straight Up' cut. Also think it'd be the better one to react to. But all versions are worth a watch.
Another buddy cop comedy to watch is Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Comedies I recommend are: In Bruges, Defending Your Life, My Blue Heaven, Let It Ride.
They've been too old for this sh*t since the 80's, and now with a 5th movie set to start production early this year, well, just goes to prove that this sh*t never gets old.
Lethal Weapon as a whole tackles some really poignant themes. Mental health in the first one. Apartheid in the second. Gang violence in the third. Immigration in the fourth.

What made it funnier was the accent all the 'South Africans' used. It was the equivalent of having an American ambassador speak with an uneducated redneck accent usually found in the most remote hillbilly mountains. Then again, with the state of US politics at the moment, that might have actually been the case at some US embassy parties.
He brought that house down San Andreas style or to be more specific San Andreas brought the house down Lethal Weapon 2 style. To me the Lethal Weapon franchise is better than the Die Hard franchise other than part 1 and 3 i really could care less about the rest of the Die Hard movies while i love all 4 of the Lethal Weapon movies
Just FYI for everyone watching this, in a couple of scenes in this film, the South African characters say a word that starts with a 'k' and rhymes with 'gaffer'. This is the South African version of the 'N' word that rhymes with 'Digger'. No one should be saying that 'k' word anywhere in south africa as it is considered 'hate speech' and people have been fined and even been sent to prison for saying this word in fits of rage when directed to africans. Just don't say that word.
It was only on recent rewatch, decades after first watching it, that I realised Murtaugh makes a pun on the word. "They were decaffeinated" which I only realised when I saw it spelt out how he had actually said it. I hate that word. For its meaning and its value and even phonetically. I hate it
Lethal Weapon is one of those rare franchises like Rocky and Back to the Future, where every movie is very enjoyable and watchable. Everyone has their own favourite and people may debate which ones like they like the most, but every LW movie is very entertaining and worth a watch, especially, like with Rocky, as you get to know and love the characters, you just want to see more of their lives
@CineBingeReact The diplomat and his goons were the ideal villains for the time LW2 came out as the Krugerrand was actively being banned by most Western countries due to apartheid. This was a HUGE deal back then because the coin dominated the world's gold investments. The movie was reflecting the prevailing socio-political attitudes towards South Africa and the economic sanctions the US had just made against South Africa that made it illegal to import Krugerrands to the US, that's the main reason Murtaugh and Riggs were like wtf when they found the coins. We lifted the sanctions in the 1990s after Nelson Mandela was released from prison and So. Africa ended apartheid.
Let's not pretend the US was entirely the saving grace in this situation. The Reagan administration opposed sanctions and Reagan himself vetoed a bill already watered down by congressional Republicans. Only a Senate override of the veto by Democrats and a few Republicans with conscience (some still had integrity back then) put the sanctions in place.
@@Hexon66 Calm yourself, no one said anything about the US having been the saving grace and which party held what stance is irrelevant to the point being addressed: namely, Daniel & Sam noted the choice of movie villains being Afrikaners was unusual, not realizing the significance of the choice during that era or how it wasn't just a horde of gold coins but specifically kuggerands and what weight that carried at the time.
12:44 Hong Kong stunts were even riskier back then given that insurance coverage wasn't required to make movies. Plus, limited budget & production schedule also meant less time spent on the actors' & stuntmen's safeties. There's a sequence in Fatal Termination (1990) where a real little girl is grabbed by the hair and dangled outside of a speeding car. There was also little concern for animals. Jackie Chan's Project A 2 (1987) has a sequence where he fights someone in a cage full of birds.
My apologies if someone else has already mentioned this, but if I remember correctly, that's one of the ways Houdini was able to get out of straitjackets - he could dislocate one or BOTH of his shoulders.
At this point, it pays to see the whole series through. There are only two more, after all. It's been rumored Mel will direct a fifth entry, since the prior director of the previous four has since passed, although nothing happened yet.

A friend of a friend of a friend, worked in Ireland in the early 80s. They said that the outfit the bomb squad wore had very minimal protection and was really used to hold the body together after an explosion. Don't know how true this is though
Shock wave would probably be fatal, even if the armor held up. Most fatalities outside of the shrapnel/blast radius are killed by concussive internal injuries.
Leo Getz is the character we didn't know we needed from the first one. Just hilarious. The third one is just as good and introduces another good character.

I miss movie stars that had balls to do their own stunts and heaps of charisma. Mel Gibson should have never gone away. Fantastic actor! Owns the screen in every scene. Love it.
Fun fact: The original script for the movie had Riggs die at the end. The studio changed it before filming but they decided to keep the scene, they just had Riggs pull through. Imagine the ending of this movie with Riggs bleeding to death on the ship in Murtaugh's arms as the camera pulls out to see all the cop cars racing in, but too late. In the rewrite, Riggs lives and so does Rika. They filmed a closing scene at Murtaugh's house with Riggs and Rika joking about eating a living turkey. The director thought the movie would have much more impact if the bad guy killed Rika so they cut that ending scene and filmed the parts with Rika dead in the water, but you can still find the scene on TH-cam.
The song playing is "Knocking on Heaven's Door". Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan. It is played in the 1973 film "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" as a lawman lay dying. Bob Dylan actually also appeared in the movie. The lyrics refer to not needing his badge and guns anymore, because he is knocking on Heaven's Door.
Mentioned it before on your Transformers video, but you should check out "The Island" (2005), starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johannson, and directed by Michael Bay. Vastly underrated action film that is surprisingly thought-provoking as well.

This movie was so popular that Warner Brothers sold the videotape as "priced to buy," at about $24.99. That was unusual, especially for something that wasn't a general family audiences film. Tapes were largely for the rental market. South Africa's apartheid was a major topic at the time, and I use to joke that the movie's popularity led to Nelson Mandela being released from prison the following spring. Condom commercials were also a new controversy, with a debate over whether they should be allowed on TV.
Of all Mel Gibson's movies that became unwatchable after he revealed what a bigot he was, Lethal Weapon 2 is the worst. All I can do is think how much Mel actually sides with the South Africans. When he says, "....I will just call you Adolf", that comes off as a compliment in Gibson's mind.
Ya South Africa is such a great country now isnt it. And lets not forget Nelson Mandelas peaceful sister "With our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country." Protip people, the majority of "Africans" in South Africa arent even the natives to that region. They went there after the Dutch and real natives, the Bushmen, made it prosperous with the creation of Cape Town.
Sadly, the way the villains use diplomatic immunity to avoid the cops is pretty realistic. For instance, in New York City where the U.N. building is, diplomats and their families have committed all kinds of crimes over the years, ranging from parking infractions and drug-dealing all the way up to sexual assault and vehicular manslaughter, but have avoided prosecution by hiding behind their diplomatic immunity. I imagine it's the same just about anywhere that an embassy exists around the world. This is the only movie I've seen that comments on this particular issue.
That’s a really bad Afrikaans South African accent. It seems to be a tough accent for foreigners to get right. Strange. I’m an English South African, and when I was a little girl, I wished I had an accent and didn’t realize that I already had one…🙄

in reality the moment they had suspected the diplomats were in a big drug ring. they would have contacted the state department who would proceed to decalre them persona non grata which would mean they would be kicked out of the u.s
Richard Donner placed a LOT of social commentary in these movies. You can see it in the posters in the background, the whole thing about not eating tuna, and so on. When this game out, South Africa was in the news on a regular basis, so them being the bad guys fit in with the current events. After you do the third one, you'll want to be sure to see Loaded Weapon. You need to see Lethal Weapon 1-3 to get all the jokes, but it's actually holds up well as a movie, and a parody of this series.

Another buddy cop comedy to watch is Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.
Comedies I recommend are: In Bruges, Defending Your Life, My Blue Heaven, Let It Ride.

The lethal weapon movies are so good, it’s like one long movie combined and the bond between friends into family is great. Plus all the action too.
Lethal Weapon as a whole tackles some really poignant themes. Mental health in the first one. Apartheid in the second. Gang violence in the third. Immigration in the fourth.
Mel should of kept working on the mental health after.

You both should watch the movie National Lampoons Loaded Weapon 1. It is a spoof off the Lethal Weapon movies. It’s a very funny movie. Samuel L Jackson is in it
What made it funnier was the accent all the 'South Africans' used. It was the equivalent of having an American ambassador speak with an uneducated redneck accent usually found in the most remote hillbilly mountains. Then again, with the state of US politics at the moment, that might have actually been the case at some US embassy parties.
You really have to watch the parody of this and other Cop movies, Loaded Weapon!
He brought that house down San Andreas style or to be more specific San Andreas brought the house down Lethal Weapon 2 style. To me the Lethal Weapon franchise is better than the Die Hard franchise other than part 1 and 3 i really could care less about the rest of the Die Hard movies while i love all 4 of the Lethal Weapon movies
Just FYI for everyone watching this, in a couple of scenes in this film, the South African characters say a word that starts with a 'k' and rhymes with 'gaffer'. This is the South African version of the 'N' word that rhymes with 'Digger'. No one should be saying that 'k' word anywhere in south africa as it is considered 'hate speech' and people have been fined and even been sent to prison for saying this word in fits of rage when directed to africans. Just don't say that word.
It was only on recent rewatch, decades after first watching it, that I realised Murtaugh makes a pun on the word. "They were decaffeinated" which I only realised when I saw it spelt out how he had actually said it.
I hate that word. For its meaning and its value and even phonetically. I hate it

Lethal Weapon is one of those rare franchises like Rocky and Back to the Future, where every movie is very enjoyable and watchable. Everyone has their own favourite and people may debate which ones like they like the most, but every LW movie is very entertaining and worth a watch, especially, like with Rocky, as you get to know and love the characters, you just want to see more of their lives

@CineBingeReact The diplomat and his goons were the ideal villains for the time LW2 came out as the Krugerrand was actively being banned by most Western countries due to apartheid. This was a HUGE deal back then because the coin dominated the world's gold investments. The movie was reflecting the prevailing socio-political attitudes towards South Africa and the economic sanctions the US had just made against South Africa that made it illegal to import Krugerrands to the US, that's the main reason Murtaugh and Riggs were like wtf when they found the coins. We lifted the sanctions in the 1990s after Nelson Mandela was released from prison and So. Africa ended apartheid.
Let's not pretend the US was entirely the saving grace in this situation. The Reagan administration opposed sanctions and Reagan himself vetoed a bill already watered down by congressional Republicans. Only a Senate override of the veto by Democrats and a few Republicans with conscience (some still had integrity back then) put the sanctions in place.
@@Hexon66 Calm yourself, no one said anything about the US having been the saving grace and which party held what stance is irrelevant to the point being addressed: namely, Daniel & Sam noted the choice of movie villains being Afrikaners was unusual, not realizing the significance of the choice during that era or how it wasn't just a horde of gold coins but specifically kuggerands and what weight that carried at the time.

Plus, limited budget & production schedule also meant less time spent on the actors' & stuntmen's safeties. There's a sequence in Fatal Termination (1990) where a real little girl is grabbed by the hair and dangled outside of a speeding car. There was also little concern for animals. Jackie Chan's Project A 2 (1987) has a sequence where he fights someone in a cage full of birds.
Forgot how great the character chemistry was in the Lethal Weapon series and how they quality doesn't gall away from the first, seems to get better.

At this point, it pays to see the whole series through. There are only two more, after all. It's been rumored Mel will direct a fifth entry, since the prior director of the previous four has since passed, although nothing happened yet.

A friend of a friend of a friend, worked in Ireland in the early 80s. They said that the outfit the bomb squad wore had very minimal protection and was really used to hold the body together after an explosion. Don't know how true this is though
Shock wave would probably be fatal, even if the armor held up. Most fatalities outside of the shrapnel/blast radius are killed by concussive internal injuries.

I miss movie stars that had balls to do their own stunts and heaps of charisma. Mel Gibson should have never gone away. Fantastic actor! Owns the screen in every scene. Love it.

Fun fact:
The original script for the movie had Riggs die at the end.
The studio changed it before filming but they decided to keep the scene, they just had Riggs pull through.
Imagine the ending of this movie with Riggs bleeding to death on the ship in Murtaugh's arms as the camera pulls out to see all the cop cars racing in, but too late.
In the rewrite, Riggs lives and so does Rika.
They filmed a closing scene at Murtaugh's house with Riggs and Rika joking about eating a living turkey.
The director thought the movie would have much more impact if the bad guy killed Rika so they cut that ending scene and filmed the parts with Rika dead in the water, but you can still find the scene on TH-cam.
The song playing is "Knocking on Heaven's Door". Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan. It is played in the 1973 film "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" as a lawman lay dying. Bob Dylan actually also appeared in the movie.
The lyrics refer to not needing his badge and guns anymore, because he is knocking on Heaven's Door.
Mentioned it before on your Transformers video, but you should check out "The Island" (2005), starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johannson, and directed by Michael Bay.

Of all Mel Gibson's movies that became unwatchable after he revealed what a bigot he was, Lethal Weapon 2 is the worst. All I can do is think how much Mel actually sides with the South Africans. When he says, "....I will just call you Adolf", that comes off as a compliment in Gibson's mind.
Keep going....all 4 are good movies. 4 might not be quite as good as 1,2,3 but still pretty good and a fitting ending to the series.

Protip people, the majority of "Africans" in South Africa arent even the natives to that region. They went there after the Dutch and real natives, the Bushmen, made it prosperous with the creation of Cape Town.
Sadly, the way the villains use diplomatic immunity to avoid the cops is pretty realistic. For instance, in New York City where the U.N. building is, diplomats and their families have committed all kinds of crimes over the years, ranging from parking infractions and drug-dealing all the way up to sexual assault and vehicular manslaughter, but have avoided prosecution by hiding behind their diplomatic immunity. I imagine it's the same just about anywhere that an embassy exists around the world. This is the only movie I've seen that comments on this particular issue.

in reality the moment they had suspected the diplomats were in a big drug ring. they would have contacted the state department who would proceed to decalre them persona non grata which would mean they would be kicked out of the u.s
Richard Donner placed a LOT of social commentary in these movies. You can see it in the posters in the background, the whole thing about not eating tuna, and so on. When this game out, South Africa was in the news on a regular basis, so them being the bad guys fit in with the current events.
After you do the third one, you'll want to be sure to see Loaded Weapon. You need to see Lethal Weapon 1-3 to get all the jokes, but it's actually holds up well as a movie, and a parody of this series.
