  • Lion Zither, The Anglo American Zither, rare antique circa 1890s. From composer musician Jerrel Dulay, this zither is one of the more uncommon variations of the Zither instrument.

Do you have any antique zithers of your own?

Very nice! I have a collection of Schwarzer zithers and some guitar zithers that I am working on. The Schwarzer zithers, in particular, have an unmatched tone and are very well-built.

Have fun with the restoration and time traveling 😄 (at your own pace and leisure, of course!). Even though you're busy with your work you seem to be in good spirits which is great if that's the case. And the PSA at the end is equally great, and appreciated, as well! 🙂

Would like to see you doing the restoration work in detail. Also the brass strings that you use can you share a source? Nice video. THANKS

That looks like a big project. Is a zither a autoharp

It is in good enough shape that this won't be a huge repair job. An Autoharp is a type of zither, but a zither is not an Autoharp. The autoharp has a mechanism that allows players to make the strings play chords. A zither is the umbrella term that describes all stringed instruments with large flat bodies, many strings, and no frets.

Not many people understand just how much can be lost when you go back in time and prevent your father from meeting your mother. Marty McFly approves of this message :)

It's important we raise awareness. These are the issues that matter most to me.

Since you have to fix or replace some of that damaged wood, would you consider wiring a pickup or something through there? Would help with the reduced projection. But maybe that's too anachronistic for this instrument?

That's a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with adding a contact pickup, but I would rather do that externally in a way that doesn't permanently change the material. After all, it is quite a rare and old instrument so preservation has to kept in mind.

@@MountainHomeJerrel Oh certainly. You don't want your repairs to make it more fragile after all! :) II was just curious more about your philosophy in such a project and if you were willing to go with more modern features or if you were focusing on its original form/sound over everything else. Personally, I tend to like old things beefed up with modern niceties if it improve the experience of using it. Hope you get some time to fix that zither up and show it off again!
