So, Chinese companies are investing in Ethiopian housing, specifically in Addis Ababa with large scale residential projects. The fact you thought china is actually spot on. Great watch as always!
@@jakelyonsgeo These roofs in Addis Ababa were extremely confusing to me as well, I totally thought Central Asia or China. Just the forests feeled wrong, quite tropical, which got me on the right direction at some point. Probably took me a similar long time. Definitely wasn't the first one taking me 30 min+ though...
You're not crazy for thinking Addis Ababa looked like China. The government of China has invested billions into the economy and infrastructure of Ethiopia, many of those newer buildings were designed and built by Chinese companies.
The big stadium complex is a massive giveaway for Munich, it's the Olympic stadium. But yhea, once again that is semi-obscure European sports knowledge, so I don't fault you for not knowing that. I was confused with Munich until I saw that one because the angle looked weird to me. Hilarious that it gave you Munich from Zurich (especially since their German names München and Zürich are further apart) but oh well. Tough one, man. Congrats!
In Munich, that big bean-shaped open space is where they hold Oktoberfest. The Stadium is where the Olympics were held. Just northeast of it across the big intersection is the huge BMW factory. The Airport in Addis Ababa is a giveaway that it's not in China. Chinese airports are all either completed modern-looking airports or are huge building sites where you can see the organic-shaped, almost Zaha Hadid style, statement architecture. You can see that more than the minimum is being spent.
I’m clearly no expert compared to you, but I’m surprised that you’re not zooming in more. Looking for landmarks, churches, temples, mosques etc. Maybe you’re worried about spoiling it by seeing the football stadiums, i don’t know.
Finally my city of São Paulo showed up. Was able to identify it within 3 seconds and confirmed it once you zoomed in on Morumbi (São Paulo FC stadium).

That's really interesting, thanks!

Kaliningrad was cool, I recognized the island at spawn from the bridges of Königsberg problem!
Great series ‼️
What? 10:32 Why did it give you Munich if you guessed Zurich?
Loved the laugh you did btw
😂 (please don't hurt this comment)
I spent more than 45 minutes on VIctoria. Was barely aware of that city's existance. Great work, can't wait for the next one:)
Ethiopia was on friendly terms with USSR. Makes sense they imported the 'micro-district' concept.
It was funny, when you were struggling with Muscat, and me literally being in this place rn.
You’ve improved so much since the first episode in this series!
17:25 Kiel mentioned, it’s my hometown🤩
Lowkey waiting for the chipmunk voice

Great video but I’m a little sad we didn’t get chipmunk voice Jake 😊
a chinese city at the size of addis would have far more high rise residental buildings, for future reference
I’m increasingly convinced I should visit Ethiopia… I thought Nicosia was easy - that might be because I was there two weeks ago 😊
Super impressive as always. Say hi to Alvin next time 🤣
Nice job
Rendition of the Benny Hill theme music?
Every time I see red roofs I think it must be Italy, and I can't shake the thought out of my head.
I was convinced that adis ababa was Pyongyang
- This is weird
- This looks weird
