    in my humble opinion, the Saint Matthew's Passion is the greatest piece of classical music ever composed, and I would practically put the St Johns' Passion in the same category, they are just incredible, monumental, epic, spiritual masterpieces

    Bach's music transcends the vocabulary of words in conveying meaning. The language does not matter. Bach's language was and remains his music!

    I SO prefer this approach with heavier orchestration and larger choruses than the stripped down "more appropriate" early music approach. It's overwhelmingly beautiful.

    Bach: The masters’ master. Not only a mysical genius, but a brilliant Lutheran theologian. All his music was composed to glorify the Triune God for His gift of forgiveness, life, and salvation in Jesus Christ, the Savior!

    Come, ye daughters, share my mourning,
    See ye-(Chorus II) whom?-(Chorus I) the bridegroom there,
    See him-(Chorus II) how?-(Chorus I) just like a lamb!
    Chorale
    O Lamb of God, unspotted
    Upon the cross's branch slaughtered,
    See ye,-what?-see him forbear,
    Alway displayed in thy patience,
    How greatly wast thou despisèd.
    Look-where, then?-upon our guilt;
    All sin hast thou born for us,
    Else we had lost all courage.
    See how he with love and grace
    Wood as cross himself now beareth...

    The meaning is lost in translation, or the context at least; Novello translates "Herr, unser Herrscher" from the opening of the St. Johns Passion into "Hail, Lord our Master".
    Herr = Lord. It is a direct cry for the Lord.
    Hail doesn't have the same kind of impact, nor context, as Lord/Herr. Everything sounds best in the original language, because something shall always be lost in translation.

    • @williamfulgham2010
      @williamfulgham2010 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course there are two theories to recording choral and orchestral productions. The recording studio method obviously involves many directional microphones and requires a complex series of soundstage procedures involving several hours of set up using recording Engineers and a crew. The method used in this video only uses 2 high quality directional microphones raised above the audience by about 20 feet, resulting in the approximation of sound that an individual would hear, if present in the audience.

    False. You need to understand the meaning of the words, and the context they were applied in, in order to fully know how to convey the right emotions.
