This video was still helpful for me. I am also installing an OEM backup camera to my 08 Tundra along with a Sony XAV-9500es head unit as my monitor. I was wondering how i would get the wiring from the ceiling down to the dash and you guys are the only ones with a video that shows a clear example of exactly how to do that. Glad you left the video up even though you found out later that it was a bad product. Liked and subbed!
Just wanted to comment and say that I love watching your guys' videos. I've been a fan since ASS2000 days and I'm always pleasantly surprised at how you guys just keep pumping out the great content. Are you serious ... that was just to easy !!! Guys ,you guys are awesome I’m about to buy a Toyota Tundra and it does have the old stereo...thanks for the info man keep it up!😎
im not sure why you put the GPS module on the outside, I usually put them directly behind the rear view mirror on the inside, Ive never had a problem with them either...

I figured out how to wire your 07-13 tundra that has the same wire setup that is in the video. (Red Wire) - Positive Video Wire, (White with Black stripe wire) is Negative Video wire. (Green Wire) - is the trigger wire that connects to your andriod stereo backup wire. You will need to get a RCA Video cable which is the Yellow one. You will need to cut it, strip the wire ... there are two wires inside of it the non-shielded wire is the negative and the insulated (shielded) wire is the positive. You will need to strip the insulated wire of the RCA cable. and the then you will have two wires. attach together the non-insulated wire on the RCA cable which is the negative to the (White with Black-Stripe); attach the insulated wire on the RCA cable which is the positive to the (Red Wire) ; Then you can plug this RCA cable into the camera RCA input of your stereo. Last attach the (Green wire) which is the trigger wire to the back of the stereo which is is usually labled backup. That is what he is showing in the video but did not explain it correctly. It took me a minute to research and figure out what he actually did. You should then have video on your unit.
I've had a Joying android head unit for a year and a half and have really enjoyed it. It was specifically made for my Jeep and installed just as easily. Sounds great. I mounted my GPS on top of my dash and that works well and is pretty stealth too. I did have a problem with my touch screen after about a year. Joying did honor the warranty and sent me a new touchscreen which I installed.

So far I've been really happy with it in the Tundra, plus a friend of ours has one in his E46 and it works great in that car, too. Seems like a really good quality product for the $.
So far the only issue we've had is the Bluetooth pairing between Dave's iPhone and the head unit failing occasionally. A quick re-pair (no pun intended) fixes the problem.
About a year ago my wifes double din died, stock stereo, not knowing the latest greatest car stereo jive, she ordered a sounddesign (cheap china crap, not eveeything made in china is crap, but this was) knowledgable w/electronics but 90's stuff, i installed. My turn to order, 'amazons chioce' pioneer AVH-X390BS ITS SO SWEET, $199, had it in hand 2 days later. Sounds absolutley mint, best of all the wife was super happy. And it ALL works. one thing that worries me is how much shit il break in 20+ years once all the plastic crap goes brittle, i swear it will be the death of future classics
new zealand bro, we aint some 3rd world country but alot of our cars are 10+ years old from japan we dont salt the roads and have 6month expections so cars dont get to badly disrepaired. the newest car ive owned is 97 and that was 7 years ago, i avoid 2000+ models too much plastic and electrics for me as i like fixing my own shit i drive a 80s hj60 toyota land cruiser these days and had 15 cars in 8 years. where you from?
Tom here in tge states well at least here in Michigan, we drive em till they die because of no inspection or emissions testing. But then again most cars dont last 10 years here because we salt the hell out of the roads and road deterioration.

I subscribed a while back and forgot you guys had a Tundra. I JUST started looking to upgrade the stereo in my '11 when I saw this show up on my subscribed videos. Its like divine intervention.
After a month or so you guys should do a update video on the radio . I have heard alot of bad things about those no name Chinese radios and I want to see if these are any good
We've had it in the Tundra for a couple months now and the only issue we've encountered so far is the Bluetooth connection sometimes fails. This is a bit of a PITA, but it's no a big deal to re-pair the devices.
I have one similar to this (actually all those Android headunits from China share the same platform) for about 6 months and it works great, no issues at all. On XDA developers you can find custom ROMs that make it even better
Those interior removal tools/panel popppers are worth their weight in gold. I bought a full set from Bimmerworld. Makes interior removal so much easier.
Great video, but the external GPS module is a curious decision. I read below that you guys had reception issues when it was mounted inside the car, it will be interesting to see how the module goes in the sun and elements. PS; Hope my podcast is one of the ones you'll be playing ;)
You guys should install the Android Auto app if you want a more car friendly interface. No need to muck around with Bluetooth if you copy your music onto an SD card Or if you stream through Spotify or something just install the app through the Play store and use you phone as a wifi hotspot for the headunit instead. Might need to mess around with settings in Android so it doesn't decide to update apps in the background
1) Great job on the install. 2) Family friendly, well done video. 3) Awesome head unit for an awesome price. It would have been great to see the GPS in action.
Looks like you have to remove the radio brackets from the old radio and install them onto the new one so you can actually use those 10mm bolts you removed to secure the radio. Looks good though. wish they made a factory type replacement for Ford aswell.
These units are cool, when they work (key word..., "When They Work"). These tend to be soooo hit-or-miss. You will find yourself having to tinker with them more times than not. Also, be very careful with thermals. Many people cut a hole into a safe location on the case in order to install a small PC fan (silent 40mm - 60mm size and 12V). There is a huge community at XDA forum.
So this is like a tablet to where you can run apps like waze and so on, has a 1024x600 res which is not great but blows any other company (most use 800x480) out of the water and is dirt cheap? I've been looking for a product like this for years. Custom solution with a tablet would have cost me thousands to have someone build for me.
Well, you're 6 months into using it, what are you thoughts on it? Also, are you able to retain functionality of your steering wheel controls with this unit?
I realize that it's been over a year but I would like to know if you would still buy the same unit or wished you had gone with a more expensive unit or possibly even swapping it with an OEM Toyota Nav head unit?? Also, my Sequoia has the JBL Synthesis system....any idea on compatibility?
Anyone have that wiring info for the pillar reverse cam? I don’t see it in the description. So I installed the radio and it doesn’t really work well with the iPhone which is a big disappointment to me. Overall it’s a big glitchy but for the price it still looks nice, if I could get the rear camera setup it would be a plus .
i have a 2010, but it doesnt come with the factory backup screen up on the top like that. im hoping there is a factory reverse signal wire in there some where.
What wires did you connect for the back up camera? You said you'd add it in the description. I'm having a tough time getting my camera connected properly so it turns on when I put it in reverse. I've tried everything that DOESN'T work it seems.
So I got the radio from the link description with your discount code, everything was just perfect with the shipping... now, where do I get that Tundra you're talking about??
The part I imagined the whole way through was you guys getting the the point of screwing the bolts back in and wondering where the mount tabs went because you didn't transfer the brackets. :D Also you'd be surprised how well those gps antennas work mounted inside the dash too. They usually have a magnet in them and need to be fixed to a metal base for best signal, just putting it on any part of the metal structure inside the dash probably would have done the trick.
Thats a great tip! We usually dont run them on the outside but there was a gapping hole in the firewall so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to fill it :)
I bought one and have nothing but trouble, no sound, no gps no radio, the sound is due to wrong wiring harness sent, but I not sure if they will ever send the right one, the backup cam they will not let me know what the blue wire is for, when the radio is on it sounds like a ticking clock.
I installed a similar unit in my vehicle it was made by Hizpo though. I also purchased the ODB2 Bluetooth scanner you briefly mentioned and everything works great. My only critique about your install is you should installed the GPS antenna on the dash, inside the vehicle. Installing it outside the vehicle doesn't give it better reception, but it being outside in the elements may effect how long it will operate..
Red from pillar to what side on RCA? White and black from pillar to what side on RCA? 2008 tundra just like the video......help..... no reverse signal to radio. Green from pillar already connected to radio “reverse” Help!!!
The wiring instructions on the video to get the rear camera to work is Bogus!!!! Not like shown in the video!!!! I got it solved. Wish these heckle and heckle had made the instructions correct.
@@markalmeida8132 had to tap into the camera on the tailgate, with one wire from back of HU camera run all back to tailgate. Wires in the pillar didn’t work
I have ordered the same unit but Seicane has messed up my connector. I like to know if you have pictures of your connectors. Cause I have exactly same connectors you have. one of my unit connectors is not connecting to any harness they provided. I have 48 email contact back and forward Seicane. but they haven't solved anything yet. can you please help me with the second connector you connected to your new stereo. Or if you can provide your order number I can ask them for same connectors. I think it is steering control harness.. best regards.
I got a little confused with the back up camera, because he ran 3 wires to the radio one for RCA, and the other one for the ground but my question is where does the third wire go in the radio? Thanks
If that screen was just for backup camera up above, I would have like to put dual output on it for people in the back that want to watch the movie still.
Can u explain over head connection to the rca cable..in more detail? Would I connect the camera to overhead connector, then splice the cable located in the window console?
We've had issues with the bluetooth not working properly but other than that its been decent. Cant really recommend it but at the same time for the price if you get a good unit then it's a steal.
I just bought the same radio and I want to connect the rear camera on the radio but I did not understand where you connected the black and white cable (camera ground negative) you connected it with the red signal cable and these 2 cables to the red rca ?
With a backup camera, it'd be a $270 mod for my Fit, and that would bring it up to newer standards very nicely. Is the Nav an app, or is it like a GPS unit where you have to pay for updates?
What about steering wheel controls? My 08 Tundra has steering wheel controls and I want to know if this unit will meet my expectations or do I need to look at another model.
I've just bought the exact same truck and would love to hear your feedback on 6 month ownership of the Seicane unit. Main question - how quick so you see the backup camera when you turn on the truck? I'd be concerned if it takes 30 seconds to boot up the Android before you can see the camera when you shift in reverse. Great video!
Seicane customer service is based out of China and it seems as if they are using google translate to communicate in English. After purchase my unit took almost 4 months to arrive and updates from the seller were basically nill. When I received my unit the power button doesn’t work, the clock memory doesn’t work at all nor does it sync with gps. After a polite request for warranty or refund the company said they don’t offer refunds and it would be my responsibility to ship the unit back at my costs even though the unit is defective. I do not think the risk of dealing with the seicane company is worth the risk of the purchase. The unit does look great, forgot to add that.
Speed Academy oh but you do, that's the beauty of it. Some tablets on some dashboards look better than some infotainment units on luxury cars. As for connecting them to the car speakers, there's a jack-jack cable or even Bluetooth connectivity and you can connect the tablet to an after market car stereo unit (or second hand) with aux or bt - and you'll have free, constantly updated maps, obd2 info (via obd2 dongle), and all the music you can fit on that tablet! And all of these for under 50$. Plus, there are guys that made it possible to connect the tablet directly to the speakers without the need for an additional CD player.
We've found we get spotty reception with the antenna on the inside in our part of the world, but lots of others have suggested interior mounting is fine, so I'm guessing you'll be fine to mount it inside where you live.

Installing it outside the vehicle doesn't give it better reception, but it being outside in the elements may effect how long it will operate..
I ordered the same one how is yours holding up after a year??
@@nickgaray5904 still holding up great!
@@Boxjelly77 Thank goodness I’m so glad to hear that! Thanks for the feedback!
great video Guys! I will be checking out their website.
Red from pillar to what side on RCA?
White and black from pillar to what side on RCA?
2008 tundra just like the video......help..... no reverse signal to radio.
Green from pillar already connected to radio “reverse”
Help!!!
The wiring instructions on the video to get the rear camera to work is Bogus!!!! Not like shown in the video!!!! I got it solved. Wish these heckle and heckle had made the instructions correct.
How did you solve it?!
@@leswalker7990 les can u tell me how you wired it up
@@PhilipLeder Philip did u figure out how to wire it up?
That’s a beauty. Gotta be North of the Border! Great video! Thanks
Are you able to continue the use of the information center of the original set of the Tundra information center?
I got a little confused with the back up camera, because he ran 3 wires to the radio one for RCA, and the other one for the ground but my question is where does the third wire go in the radio? Thanks
Great video, I wish there was one for Toyota 4Runner 2015
I don't get it, how does this make it faster? J/K, love the videos, by far the best youtube channel.
faster at backing up the truck and hooking it up to the trailer? Faster at getting a podcast loaded up? LOL
Hey guys, does it work with the Steering wheel controls in the higher trim level ?
You could've put the GPS antenna under the dash. It will work as long as there's no metal above it.
Have you guys Done a ATOTO Review?
If that screen was just for backup camera up above, I would have like to put dual output on it for people in the back that want to watch the movie still.
Did you consider upgrading the camera as well?
now that its been a month... how do you like it\
Can u explain over head connection to the rca cable..in more detail? Would I connect the camera to overhead connector, then splice the cable located in the window console?
Hi, It's been almost a year since this was posted how is the Seicane holding up?
We've had issues with the bluetooth not working properly but other than that its been decent. Cant really recommend it but at the same time for the price if you get a good unit then it's a steal.
Also, watch the link in the top right for an update.
@@speedacademy looking online it seems this is not a good company. Generally people are unhappy with products and service.
@@speedacademy have you tried using an iPhone to connect with it?
What year tundra
That unit looks clean
GPS doesn't need to.be outside, I mounted mine right on top of the headunit inside the dash and I have no problems with GPS signal.
Link to where the stereo can be purchased??
Why is the gps antenna on the outside and not in the onside?Because of metal layering in the glass?
Trust me there isn't a logical explanation.. I agree
I just bought the same radio and I want to connect the rear camera on the radio but I did not understand where you connected the black and white cable (camera ground negative) you connected it with the red signal cable and these 2 cables to the red rca ?
I like the custom scratches you put on the dash from laying the radios on it 😂
Curious to know if it's still working nearly a year later
With a backup camera, it'd be a $270 mod for my Fit, and that would bring it up to newer standards very nicely. Is the Nav an app, or is it like a GPS unit where you have to pay for updates?
I've been thinking about getting this, but I wasn't sure if it would support the rear-seat entertainment.
Does the original small monitor still work after tapping into the back up camera wires
I have been trying to figure out what wires you used for the back up camera ( green, white/black) but missed the last wire.
Does that reverse camera stuff come with the new stereo or a different purchase?
Did you try steering wheel controls, TPMS and OBDII?
What about steering wheel controls? My 08 Tundra has steering wheel controls and I want to know if this unit will meet my expectations or do I need to look at another model.
Chris fix - "Out with the old, and in with the new"
I've just bought the exact same truck and would love to hear your feedback on 6 month ownership of the Seicane unit. Main question - how quick so you see the backup camera when you turn on the truck? I'd be concerned if it takes 30 seconds to boot up the Android before you can see the camera when you shift in reverse. Great video!
I have a 07 what radio are you currently using in your 08? Looking to upgrade mine and I noticed you DON’T recommend this one?
Nice..you know if fit on Tacomas?
Did you guys do a bypass to allow the dvd to play while the truck is moving? If so, how’d you do it?
I see the comment you replied to asking for an update a couple of weeks ago, did that update fix the Bluetooth problem?
Does it have rear camera and other camera recording hookups?
How is the sound quality on these android unites? would it compare to a high end double DIN pioneer?
more of this plz, i love diy :D
Seicane customer service is based out of China and it seems as if they are using google translate to communicate in English. After purchase my unit took almost 4 months to arrive and updates from the seller were basically nill. When I received my unit the power button doesn’t work, the clock memory doesn’t work at all nor does it sync with gps. After a polite request for warranty or refund the company said they don’t offer refunds and it would be my responsibility to ship the unit back at my costs even though the unit is defective. I do not think the risk of dealing with the seicane company is worth the risk of the purchase. The unit does look great, forgot to add that.
How's the glare on that unit?
Did the stock microphone work with this unit
I have a 2015 4runner limited. Do you take request for a review on a andriod stereo?
37% off and its 400$, in the mean time a second hand tablet that does more or less the same things is only 40$. Great deal!
Except you have no way of mounting it up and powering your speakers...
So why have you put the GPS out side as over time it we not work and it sould go behind the radio
What about boot time for the android device? It seemed to start instantaneously... Never seen one of these things take less than 20 seconds to boot...
Greetings guys. Just wondering why the GPS antenna module has to be mounted outside? I'm sure it'll be fine mounted on the inside?
We've found we get spotty reception with the antenna on the inside in our part of the world, but lots of others have suggested interior mounting is fine, so I'm guessing you'll be fine to mount it inside where you live.
