In CSGO, I always thought that it was in Spain ( in the Basque country to be precise) because of the aesthetic and because of the default terrorist skin on the map called the separatists being based on the ETA (The basque terrorist organization)

Yeah I thought the same, that it was Spain, and because of the terrorists, but before CS:GO, I honestly wasn't sure. In the original Counter-Strike, there were a lot of desert backgrounds because of Half-Life, so I figured it was near some desert, lol.

@@daboos6353 Your assumption was understandable though since the CT faction in both Dust are Israeli. But then again, ETA, a Basque based terrorists terrorize Inferno in Italy. So, it's also safe to assume the factions are purely aesthetic.

The first CSGO version of inferno is based on the Vasque Country (North Spain) and the T side resembles a real terrorist faction called "E.T.A" with the berets and the white masks looking the same.
I would love to see them add weather effects to the game, maybe not rain, snow or fog that changes how a game is played but stuff that just change a little how the map looks such as spring, summer, fall, winter and day/evening/night. This system could be seasonal and add something that people want to come back to just try the effect, on christmas day there could be snow and fun stuff everywhere.
Hail, the size of baseballs would be cool too.

CSS inferno was a weird mix... but it had a vibe... maybe it could be re set in croatia to explain the eastern block cars... but idk why destroy the village when there is a nice factory jsut a grenade throw away at T spawn in Css...

Adding the flag of Italy in Counter Strike 2 wasn't necessary. But at the end of the day is all marketing to attract players so...

Level design back then was just random thoughts of a dev, but throughout the years, map makers want a more logically designed map based on reality, so it makes sense.
That surely applies to the updates for CS maps, but not at all to Valorant maps ;)

The only Cs I played was CSGO(and cs2 beta), and i always thought inferno was set in Spain

First version of Inferno definitely looked middle eastern, it had a similar tone to Dust, although I liked the textures in Inferno better, specially the indoor sections.

The T song is made by Sabicas, a famous Flamenco guitarist from Spain.
Am I the only one who thought that maybe Inferno was at some point set in northern Spain? Like in basque country or Catalonia. It would explain the separatists, even though my gut instinct was that the map was Italian.

So in conclusion:
-1.6 Inferno located in Middle East, since the same texture also used for CPL Strike, which got remake as de_mirage in CSGO that located in ME. But asthetically, it is closer to Italy.
-Condition Zero Inferno is in Italy since it mostly use Motorcade Assault textures from Deleted Scenes, which is located in Venice, Italy.
-CSS is surprising since I never thought it was located in US, but thanks for information.
-I don't remember about early CSGO version but I remember the latest version that has wall paint with Italian language, so it is in Italy.
-CS2 has similar sign as CSGO late version.
About Havana, it is funny since only some wall use cs_havana which is not justified enough, so I assume no Inferno version is located in that town.
OH PLEASE ANUBIS HAS SIGNS WITH ISP AND TELEPHONE SERVICE PROVIDERS LINKED TO MOROCCO WHICH IS A RENAME OF MAROC TELECOM AND ACTUAL BRAND HERE IN MOROCCO WHICH IS HILARIOUS FOR A MAP SET IN EGYPT.

The de_inferno of the CSS is actually in Havana, the radio in Spanish with a type of Cuban accent refers to the capital of Haiti

you’re forgetting that the csgo terrorist lore for inferno is called the “separatist” which is 100% based in a well known spanish terrorist faction called “ETA”. That and the guitar at the beginning were the reasons I thought it was based in spain…

Whose weapon caches are the Ts even destroying? Are CTs protecting random weapon caches in civilian areas for a third party? Does this mean the Ts are secretly the good guys, while the CTs are defending irregular militias on behalf of the state? Or maybe they're at least morally equivalent. The map lore is so strange.
And if those are weapon caches of the military, why are they standing around in some random village

I'm Italian. I can say that the new inferno looks more like Italy than any other Inferno.
i think it looks like a mix of tuscany and cinque terre funny thing is that cs go map de tuscany is actually full bassed on cinque terre and Italy i spot a very similar spot like cs spon when visiting tuscan town of Montepulciano.
I dont know anyone that claimed it is, looks more like Spain or portugal, or mediteranian side of France, Marseiles....

Why would it make any sense for _terrorists_ to bomb weapon caches? Surely Counter-Terrorists would not want any terrorists getting hold of them.
To me the name "Inferno" always fit the best for the more Mexican/Southern California location since the temperature there gets pretty hot and dry. If the original location was meant to be the Middle East maybe that's also why he chose the name.

The map is most probably made in Italy. You can see this by the many writings written in clear italian on the walls and the typical tuscan architecture. Moreover, the map name, "Inferno", is a reference to Dante's Inferno, in the Divine Comedy which is one of the most important pieces of literature in Italy.
