Looks like an upgraded version of the Dogs Head Utility knife by them with that butt cap. Great looking knife. I guess I'm gonna have to get one now. I am a collector, who as of yet, has not got a Ka-Bar, believe it or not. I've been after my brother to give me his old USMC he carried in Nam, but he won't part with it. Can't say as I blame him though, lol. He said it did get to taste the blood of the enemy, and he carried it all through his tour of duty, so it's got sentimental value of a sort, not all good sentiments, but sentiments none the less.

I ( needless to say ), have been “ Over The Moon “ with what Ka-Bar has done with an already fantastic knife .
I can’t believe they took something that has already been such a great success for countless decades , and made it that much better .
I always say “ Don’t mess with Perfection “ haha .

As I said in the video , I was really Really Close to buying the D2 Extreme Serrated knife ..... but something kept stopping me .
I wrote to Ka-Bar requesting one made in the straight edge ( as I believe other folks have as well ).
So happy that they finally listened !!

Dude I remembered that I wanted to get a kabar and then I saw this knife, I hesitated and bought the original Leather one. In the hind sight I wish I got the extreme kabar because the original one can rust really easy and the leather would get mouldy if the weather is damp, where I lived. The kabar blade shape is just too unique and even after 100 years we are still very much fascinated by the iconic shape. Good video dude!

This D2 Extreme still rides everywhere with me .
I take it out once in a while just to check for any rust or stain issues .
Nothing to report .
Still looks new .
I have it hidden in my truck just in case of a jacking or I run into a Grizzly haha 😂
And the occasional package opener .

I have this knife, it’s bloody brilliant. When I first brought it, the very tip broke. But I took it to a blade smith and he ground it out. Used it constantly this summer and it never lost its sharpness. I’m talking cutting everything, branches, rope, meat. When I’m out in the back country, it is my everything utility knife.
This has been my EDTC ( every day truck carry haha ).
Goes everywhere with me .
Hidden under front seat .
Love this knife and it’s still as sharp as day one .
I love showing this one to friends , acquaintances.
I think my favorite part is when I tell them it’s made in USA 🇺🇸.

Biggest Improvement I’ve Seen on Any Mass Produced Knife .

I have the 1292 with serrations. They are quite useful when cutting stringy and soft material, like vines and garden material, as well as rope, etc. At first I was sorry I got the serrations, but now I feel they add a dimension of usefulness that makes this knife a true all around utility knife. I've also batonned with the serrations; no problem.

Yeah not a thing wrong with serrations .
I almost bought the serrated version until this showed up .
I just love that clean plain edge .
I have other KaBar knives with the serrations but I don’t think I ever had the need to use really .
But it will come in handy that’s for sure .

@@tubes5150 love it, and I’m the same as you, I waited and waited until I found a straight edge one. I use the Kabar 1216 GFN/pretend Kydex sheath.
Thanks for the review. I have my dad's old kabar from the 50's which he supposed was made in the 40's. While at camp Pendleton he broke an earlier kabar he owned in two parts at the hilt. My best friend gave me a new classic Kabar at my dad's wake. The modern version seems sweet.

@@tubes5150 I would like to find something that is for protection although I have to look into what my country allows because I seem to remember years ago I had this tiny little knife which an old boyfriend gave to me and it was for the baskets that I used to make when I was at the beach and I happened to have it at work with me and I was told that it was an illegal knife because you could flip it open with a flip of your wrist. And though I've looked at different ones I've always been afraid to order one in case say it got seized at Customs or something so I'd probably have to buy one up here. I'd probably be looking at getting a few I'd like to have a big one but then one that's more multi-purpose. Thank you so very much!

They were like a few days apart when they arrived .

I have the serrated Ka Bar d2 extreme I’ve drove it through the bottom of a deer feeder to put the hole we forgot to pre cut considering we had to make the feeder last minute because the previous feeder wasn’t in good condition. It held up fine had a small roll in the edge and it came out with some fine file work and a sharpening stone. I’m going to have to pony up and get the straight edged model.👍
Well at least the deer will be fed now ❤️

She is cool with me bringing in my blades as long as I keep them hidden haha .
But since Covid , that clinic has been suspended.

Probably because I always have it with me haha .

I am very happy with that kydex sheat.
And this Ka bar D2 steel is almost indestructible!
For me this knife is not just a combat knife..its also a survival knife.
I did hard things with it..and this knife keeps laughing at me..

@@tubes5150 they're amazing. It's 3V so it's easy to maintain. Strop/hone it before it gets too dull and you'll save yourself a lot of time but it's easy to sharpen too.

I think that steel compares the best to the Ranch Hinderer .

Kabar do not make any steel. They buy it in just like all the companies. A piece of cpm3v does not cost alot of money. But they charge a fortune for it. 1095 is a good working steel. That d2 version has been around a while. I have one, and is not bad! You have just cut a good strop up!

I personally prefer the Kydex sheath because of the option to mount it horizontally on my belt, which makes the draw so much more comfortable as someone with long arms

Straight edge all the way. Also, this morning I went on a little shopping trip to a fabric store where I bought a 6 foot long by 2 foot wide piece of red felt for $3.50. The red actually matches one of my pocket knife cases. My purpose was to roll up my bayonets and other military knives. I secured it with some elastic tiedowns with hooks Viola.

It's really weird, I usually dislike those serrations but... When I saw it I had to get it. I had the Cordura sheath and didn't get along with it as the bottom strap kept getting in the way, so I took it off but never felt safe with that beast in that sheath. I feel much better with it safely locked in the "Kydex" with that reassuring click. I might have to pick up a fine edge now.
Oh I’m sure the serrations are fine .
I almost bought that one too .
My only question would now be “ Why didn’t they produce BOTH serrated and fine edge at the same time “??!
There are a lot of folks out there who already bought the serrated one .
Oh - I bought the cordura to use in my back pack tactical bag .

I wish I invented it haha ( was very close not long ago ).
I am just thrilled that it was the original company ( Ka-Bar ) that took it upon themselves to create and do the upgrades .
I did write to them at one point requesting the D2 Extreme to be made into a straight edge .
I almost bought the serrated one but glad I waited .

Waited all that time for my Ka-Bar D2 extreme straight edge to come in the mail, I haven't used it on any other tasks at all cuz I wanted to keep it meant but just keep it as an everyday carry I just now tried to shave my arm and it won't even take the hair off my arm this is my first Ka-Bar highly disappointed and I'm not trying to use punctuation
If you are that upset about it you have 2 options ….
Sharpen that bad boy up to the point where it will be shave sharp ….
Or …
Return for a refund .

Same here, I've been wanting a D2 extreme for years. But would never buy one because me personally I despise serrations. I use my USMC Ka-Bar as my primary hunting knife, so I have no need for serrations. Last year I almost bought a Ka-Bar Dog's Head because it's sort of resembled the D2 extreme. But I was like no I'll wait another year to see if Ka-Bar actually brings out a plane Edge D2 extreme. And sure enough waiting that one more year paid off.

I’ve heard those plastic Ka-Bar sheaths will dull the blades. You’d think with a heavy price tag as that knife has Ka-Bar would pair it with a nice sheath!
No dulling to report on my end .
Still razor sharp too . Not once did I hate to sharpen . ( then again I’m not really doing any heavy tasks or anything extreme ).
That Sheath material dulls knife 100%

The D2 extreme is a superb knife. It's what I refer to as my Apocalypse knife, because it's the one that I would loop on to my belt if the shit hit the fan. One of the absolute best things about D2, is it's ability to take and hold an edge. By adding the serrated section, it instantly becomes an absolute bitch to sharpen, and removes part of what is so great about the blade. Strengthen wrists and learn how to cut, and you lose the need for the serrations pretty easily.
You continue to show great taste in blades Sir, and glad you enjoy this one as much as I do.

The D2 Steel involved on this blade is made in the USA by Ka-Bar .
( they say it’s the best ever ).
I have D2 in other Knives .
Most I really do like but I have been disappointed with a few .
Take care of your knives and you should not have any problems.
I think some D2 is fake IMO .
I seem to have a problem with the D2 from overseas.

I like the D2 but when it gets dull....and you are out in the woods try sharpening it on a river rock......Have sharpened my 1095 on a river rock on several occasions.....but different strokes for different folks....

The kydex sheath is the best sheath on the market. for any knife. Level 2 retention. The cordura is Chinese junk. You do not want it.

Personally I would never carry D2 in the field. Way too brittle and a bear to sharpen in my experience. I wish they would make an actual full tang version of the 1211 though

Been using off and on and the edge is still like new .
Then again ...I’m not skinning deer or anything.
Just basic use .
Plastic sheath looks terrible unfortunately.
