Ka Bar D2 Extreme: Evolution of a Legend Done Right

  • ** THIS IS A RE-UPLOADED VIDEO FROM THE PAST, DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE MUSIC IN THE ORIGINAL.
Here's my table top review of the Ka Bar D2 Extreme, a current iteration of the classic Ka Bar Fighting / Utility military fixed blade. What an awesome update of perhaps the most prolific fixed blade knife in history. There is simply nothing that needs to be done with a knife in the outdoors that this knife can't do. It doesn't do everything perfectly, but it is capable of virtually all things. In this version, with updated handle material, furniture, and a killer steel application, this 70-year-old design is young once again. Bravo, Ka Bar!

swopped a british army wooly pullover much admired by your american paras for a ka bar way back when you were just a lad Rob. On tour in Belize, playing jungle games with my regiment and some of your excellent 101 airborne guys. A GI asked me if I would part with my pullover, well it was jungle and I could always aquire another one, so it was a choice between his jungle boots( american jungle boots far superior to british) or his ka bar. Still got the lady, had to put her in a nice kydex sheath, shes 44 years old, still works now and then in the woods, only on inanimate objects now, lol. Peace and grace to you and yours.

Laurie Campbell Great story, buddy! Good to hear the old girl is still serving you well! BTW, I'm shipping sharpening to the UK today. It's always a blessing to contribute my skill with the greatest military in the history of the world! Undefeated since 1066, baby!!! (We don't really count that little uprising by the colonies in 1776. We know you lost that one on purpose ;) ).

Well being a scot we always say, there will always be an england because scots do there fighting for them. I am sure there are more Macdonalds, Campbells, Camerons etc in the good ol USA than there are in Scotland. You lot did the right thing, no taxation without representation. the pursuit of Freedom is no small thing. Got a really good craftsman Sharpening services just outside Milton Keynes who has brought a couple of my disasters back to life and at £5 a knife for excellent work I cannot complain. He does chefs knives, wool clipping shears, all kinds of saws etc, even sorted out a hand and half sword for me when I had been a bit over enthusiastic with it, dangerous wicked weapon, cant put it in your pocket though, got another one I used to use for mock medieval combat, to old now for sword play. Noticed you shooting bow, I practice field archery, use an american flat bow or a short 45lb recurve, us old boys dont use compounds. peace and grace to you and yours.

Master Tracker Hi Master Tracker, We always carried a pullover in our mess kits, obviously it was not carried up country. I was only in Belize once, my main area of expertise was Arctic and alpine, although European ops would have been my battleground if the shit had hit the fan in the late60s early 70s, Ulster and especially Armagh was a bit dodgy in the Irish Troubles.Good tip about top guard removal, although mine still has it intact and I have no intention of removing it now, we do not have moose, bear or elk in Hampshire, stalk the occasional deer and its always on an estate I have permission on. Bunnys, hares, pheasant, partridge and pigeons are main sport now. Hoo Ra brother, all the best.

My D2 Kabar is the blade of choice for quartering and butchering moose - bear - deer and elk hunting in Alaska - Montana and Northern New Mexico . I have the "baby kabar" and always remove the top guard on all Kabars . This was the first thing we did with Kabars and issue Cammilus - circa 1971 .

I have both the KA-BAR 1211 as well as the Cold Steel Leatherneck SF ( SK 5 Model ) & in my opinion the Leatherneck is better option as it is a 5mm thick blade, thinker tang, guard & pommel then the KA-BAR. It is all so Full flat grind with is better for slicing & comes with a much better plastic sheath as well . As of 2016, Cold steel will be making a Saber Grind, D2 steel version.

Otis010707 That's a Hedgehog sheath (see link at bottom). They make excellent sheaths for a variety of popular (and obscure) survival and military knives... and I will warn you, at least in this case, you will spend more on the sheath than you did on the knife, but, American hand-made, 25 year warranty, hard to beat in a leather product.

In 1971 I was issued a 1219C2 made by Camillus Marked On the left side US below that Camillus. The information about the letter from the old trapper can be seen in theTH-cam Video made by KABAR
