    You're a good teacher with excellent diction -- a rarity on YT. Thanks.

    These are cool units. In 1970-1971 I drove my dad's CJ-5 with one to school. He had the Warn overdrives on both his CJ-5 and his old Willys. In 1970 the retail price for the kit was $325, so today's price seems reasonable.

    Great instructions and videography. A driving/shifting video would be great.

    The best overdrive installation video yet ! Thank you for taking the time to show everyone the process! If I could I would like to ask you for a very brief summary of how you adapted the the mo617 to a B&W t18? On your CJ5. I looking to do the same.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I’m glad you found the video informative. For the om617 I decided to just buy the adapter. It was so cheap I couldn’t justify making it. I got it from Mercedes diesel 4x4. Im not sure they’re in business anymore though. 🤷‍♂️

      Thanks for the help. I'm assuming the kit came with engine plate and flywheel. I will look into that kit. Thanks again.

    Finishing the install in my 1952 M38. Getting the locking tab and then the star snap ring installed properly was the biggest hurdle. I have agonized over this step and can only hope that the snap ring is in properly. Working under the Jeep up on jack stands was a real pain. Thanks for the video.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can definitely be a pain. Especially working on your back. I’m sure if you took your time and did your best it will be fine. When I was young I stressed over that snap ring a lot more than a i should have. If it’s in the groove it’s I good. As long as it wasn’t over-compressed it should be fine

    When I installed my Warn Overdrive more than 40 years ago in my Willys Wagon l did not have to measure the depth. And the syncro ring was already installed. SBC powered. Rebuilt the T90 a couple of times. No problem removing and installing. The Warn has had no problems after all these years. Just make sure the transfer case has oil. Tapered bearings in the intermediate gear works great.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Measuring is just a good way to check for any major variances in cases. I’ve installed a lot of these and never needed shims. These were a lot cheaper and easier to come by back in the day so not as much case was taken with the install. The design and procedure has not changed. Advanced adapters purchased this design from warn. The part is exactly the same. 👍

      I’m almost positive they do make something very similar for rovers.

    18:58 they also make transmission assembly lube that is oil soluble for situations like this. I have a small tub of it I bought when I did the rebuild on my wifes A904 that is thermally activated. Its a grease like consistency until it gets warm from using the transmission then it liquefies and mixes with the oil.

    What would cause the OD to not stay in direct drive? Works great in overdrive.

      This usually happens either because of wear or improper planetary depth. If is a new install it’s the latter. If it’s a new problem on an older install it’s the former.

    It looked like there was a neutral between overdrive and direct? Is it?

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technically There is a neutral but I would always recommend using the transfer case neutral…not the overdrive.

    Are you familiar with Swepco Gear Oil?!? They claim reduced foaming, temperatures and extended life of the oil. The Land Rover guys in the UK swear by it. Keep up the good work.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t heard of them… thankfully I haven’t had any issues with foaming. People (including myself) have been running cheap 90w gear oil in these things for decades with no issues. As long as you keep the levels up they hold up great!

    Oh, how easy it looks when the trans is out of the Jeep. Whoever designed this Overdrive should have been hung out after designing the locking tab and snap ring method. When under the vehicle it is useful to be a contortionist to get the tab and snap ring installed.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it’s definitely easier this way. Filming it properly while under the vehicle would have been rather problematic.
