Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely my game of the year. The story is everything that I want, weird character, a fun tone and actual emotion scenes. As someone who has dappled in the comics it’s really cool to see certain Easter eggs for different characters.
I think the trailers were alright it’s just that everyone was letdown by the avengers game and this looked very similar gameplay wise so I think that affected peoples opinion of it quite a bit
Yea initially it looked like the avengers game but you only play as one of the heroes. A few weeks back they started doing shorter trailers showcasing the gameplay over cutscenes, that's when it started to look better.
Despite it being kinda clunky and buggy, it’s still an absolutely fantastic game. It’s genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, which is rare for me. The writing is great and nails the dynamic of the Guardians. For me, the characters are similar enough to their film counterparts where I’m happy with it. Rocket’s voice actor carries a similar vocal tone to Bradley Cooper’s version, which is great, and I’d say Drax’s voice is pretty much identical to Bautista’s. And we NEED to talk about how these crazy fuckers created an actual fake band to emulate 80s rock music because they’re actually genuine bangers. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack nonstop. I hope it does well because I would love a sequel
If you like that you should check out some synthwave/retrowave artists like LeBrock, Maxthor, Gunship, Michael Oakley, etc. Lots of great modern music with an 80's vibe out there

Chris Pratt's Starlord is awesome bro, it's just that you liked this one more. Of course this one would feel more like a leader since it's literally a game mechanic. The movies can't do the same most of the time but has it's moments.
I absolutely loved this game. It was the perfect mix of story, action, and exploration. The graphics were crazy good. I experienced virtually no glitches with it being super polished. Also never crashed. I beat it in 3 days with a lot of breaks but it didn't feel short. I'll wait awhile and most likely play again on new game plus. I bought the deluxe physical edition as well so came with an art book and steelbook case sealed nicely in a box. Hands down one of the best value games I've bought in a few years. Highly recommend!
This game has more heart and character than anything I've played in recent memory. A gem that deserves more recognition. Definitely my Goty. The amazing soundtrack is the icing on the cake.
This was one of the best experiences I’ve had gaming in a long time. I didn’t have very high expectations, maybe that played a part, but I agree with everything u said to a T Jake, the story was the best part!
It’s DEFINITELY more story and going around collecting things than it is an actual action game but it’s still really really fun. The story is awesome and surprisingly deep at times. The one thing that I think that was really cool about the gameplay was that, you’re really only doing real damage when you combine all the team’s abilities and have them bounce off one another. Overall, must play if you like Marvel games or story games in general
I mean so are a lot of the other action games that have been popular these days. Also the rpg stuff is a cool addition to the naughty dog formula this sits atop.
Dude as a fellow comic fan, it made me so happy to hear you talk about how a lot of the fun with these things is on the interpretation, like YES! Seeing new and interesting portrayals of these characters is just so fun to experience.
Man when i got this game for free in epic. I was like "cool a triple A title" and it wasnt until now i had no other games to play that i decided to boot this up and was genuinely surprised. Its got actual good writing, the characters are fun, arent cringe etc. Im in chapter 2 and lovinh every second of this game so far. Coming from a spree of completing the entire resident evil franchise and evil within. It feels so good to play a game which is just fun, isnt insanely hard and doesn't give me nightmares. Im gonna definitely get the trophy in this!
So looking forward to picking this up Black Friday and playing it in the near future. The thing that I saw said about this game that really hit with me, is that it feels like a comic book in ways that even other successful superhero games haven’t necessarily replicated, and that sounds amazing!
The game is epic, there are locations that just blew me away by just how great they looked. But the 1 thing that i hated, and hasnt changed, was that jacket design for starlord..lol. Thank god for the skins! Long story, incredible banter ,between the characters, must buy.
I am loving this game, myself. The story has given me some real feels and I'm about halfway through. The trailers for the game showed nothing of what this game could be and I hope it does well enough for a sequel!
Sparking a joint. Sliding on the headphones. Playing GOTG.... its honestly really fun. Can't wait for the sequel to be even more polished, if we get another one.. hopefully
I was really surprised at how much I liked this game. These days by the time I finish a game I need a good chunk of time before I jump back into it, but with Guardians I started a new game plus play through as soon as the credits rolled. The different dialogue and narrative choices you can make give this game a lot of extra filling.
Bought this on sale 2 weeks ago and holy flark!!! I enjoyed the heck out of it. The character build up for each of the characters, specially Rocket from being too scared of water to facing that fear for the team! That flarking racoon is so cute when he's angry and making up words. lol
I liked the 'StarLord' band so much at the beginning, I listened to the whole album before going forward! I also love the 80s easter eggs in his room! So far, I'm just in the 2nd chapter(?), but I'm really digging it. Gonna go back to it right after watching this vid! 🤘😁
I got the Platinum in this the other day. Absolutely loved it...this game has no business being as good as it is. Great story, emotional moments, the chemistry between the voice actors is top notch...there's rarely a silent moment in this game, there's so much hilarious banter (especially when Quill and Rocket are arguing over nonsense) or little anecdotes that give character development and backstory. Insanely fun experience that most people won't expect. I played it this year, but it's a highlight of 2021 for sure.
Back here because I’m replaying this awesome game. And the music really pulled me in. I also didn’t expect this game to have the heart that it did. I love it.
Something I really loved along with everything else is the world design and scale of the worlds, they really immersed me and it was just so good, first game in a while where I felt like a kid again, playing something new and just loving it.
I haven't genuinely enjoyed playing a game as much as I did this one in what feels like a very long time. This game was outstanding, a few minor flaws but nothing that ruins your experience.
Jake, can you make a video about the new Marvel game developed by the Uncharted creator, Amy Hennig? Sounds like such an amazing idea and I wonder what superhero she should make a game for.
@@jboom1085 Please, get outta my head! Seriously though, after seeing what an amazing job they did with the Netflix series and how great Henning is, we can surely dream big. Here's hoping it is DD
I don't care for Guardians of The Galaxy at all, so when they announced it I was kinda like "Whatever". But after seeing people talk it up and seeing how much of a Jedi The Fallen Order vibe I got from the videos I watched, I decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. Haven't beaten it yet, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Love the environments, the characters and the constant ribbing and the gameplay is right up my alley. Kinda made me want to watch the movie now.
This turned out what I had hoped the avengers game would be like. I bought it a couple hours ago and I'm still in ch 1 ( where you control the Milano) But I flarking love it. The banter between the guardians is so great. The voice actors also did a great job
Man, if you're into the game this much in chapter 1 already, just you wait for the absolute mad journey that's ahead of you. Seriously, this game just gets better and better as it goes until the very last second. By the end it will be at least a GOTY contender for you, mark my words. Come back here when you see the "this was so... metal" line near the end and tell me I'm wrong! ;-)
Dude this game was one of the best super hero games I’ve ever played. I don’t know how but the game versions of the characters are made so much better than their cinematic counterparts.
This is my GOTY without a doubt and I bought it on a whim. It's a cool mix of Telltale/Mass Effect/Uncharted that really took me by surprise.I definitely prefer these Guardians to the MCU ones as well and the story is seriously one of the best I've played through in a videogame. This was an awesome 20hr adventure I couldn't put down!
Got this game on GamePass. It is an excellent game. I did not expect to get sucked into the story nearly as much as I did. Going and exploring each corner of the envoirenments is not something I do normally do. Just to hear the quips from the crew while I was exploring made it even more satisfying.
I loved this journey the game took me on. I don't think I could choose a favorite member. Like everyone is great. The side characters are amazing too. I just want more of this & this universe. Happy there's a new game plus because I'm going to do that & try to 100% it
Just got my PS5 and the first two games I finished were Miles Morales and Guardians of the Galaxy. One I knew was going to be amazing and the other I expected it to be terrible. Morales was ofc stunning, but if I'm being honest I had a freaken great time with GOTG and enjoyed it more than Miles. I'm so surprised by how hard Drax hit emotionally. That Knowhere scene was so good.
I was skeptical and held off as well. Picked it up on a steam sale and WOW. I would not have been upset paying full price either. Everything he said. It's a really fun and funny game to play and enjoy.
On the topic of the nice adidas shoes in the game, shoutouts to you for the Vessi sponsor spot on the Gameranx channel, actually found a few shoes I love through that!
I bought this full price which I usually don't just so they get the money they deserve and show that these games are amazing to have between all the multiplayer games out there.
I just finished playing the entire game and gawd the entire time I had a smile I really enjoyed the FLARKING hell outta this one it felt like watching a guardians movie and damn I want moreeee😭
Okay, I’m now thinking I might actually put this on my Christmas present list. Originally it was going to be Dying Light 2, but since that got delayed I’ve been struggling to think of a meaty, fun, story based, single player game that I can get lost in over the holidays. I was also considering Ratchet and Clank.
H3MPY, dude……you’re seriously going to be that cliche that rolls up with a fake Rolex, in a battered up, blacked out Ford Fiesta, pretending like it’s a Ferrari, with your drive by bragging, as if you can afford every game that comes out. Is this the kind of person you want to be in life?
@@azuregiant9258 Uh, there is a big difference between buying every game that comes out and buying 2 of the best games of the year. I'm definitely not that guy you describe, but yea, I can easily afford to buy any games I want. Sorry you are broke.
I started playing this as it's on the ps plus middle tier thing and I'm loving it. The gameplay is repepative BUT the gameplay reminds me of the old school DMC games. The story is fun so far and the music is like the cherry on top. So fun!
This game did a really rare mix of making the comic fan in me happy, making the movie fan in me happy, and doing enough new stuff. Guardians is one of my favorite current gen games.
I’m only about 5 hours in. It’s about to overtake Returnal as my GOTY. And the gameplay is pretty fun, a lot like the uncharted series. Nothing insane but very serviceable.
I am groot! 😂 I love rocket I have a different type of love for raccoons now because of him wish I had one that talks 😂 also the music was flawless one of the best songs chosen for a game it went so perfect with the game! One detail I picked up that’s pretty consistent in the game is the refrigerator on the ship, the door is always open! And when you have flashbacks of young Peter in the house his refrigerator door is also open!
Loved what happens when you finally agree to go for Drax's "request", I thought the game was almost done by then, but it's surprisingly meaty in my opinion
Guardians of the Galaxy really is amazing, it's hilarious, it's very sad at times, the characters and the story are amazing, the graphics are next level good. My GOTY for 2021, Mantis and Drax are such good characters too!
i love the big banter with the squad. you gotta adjust the fighting difficulty to low, so you can actually switch up your fighting style. on easy levels, the enemies go down too quick.
I think to me,the best part was the guardians. Spoilers- I really liked the development of the characters going from hating each other,to singing together and just getting along(to a certain point) some games the characters don't change at all, there still an A-hole throughout the game but on this game I ended up liking some teammates later on, due to how there attitude changed during the game.
The only nitpick I have is that you can’t play the Walkman whenever you’re doing stuff like just walking around. While there’s a mechanic for you to play music on a boombox in the Milano, I think that if you were aloud to listen to some of the music to blend to the atmosphere. Then again, this was probably so that you could focus on the rest of the sound track, so it’s good.
This was the most pleasant surprise of the year for me.. Great game. The main issue (repetitive combat) is improved when you adjust the difficulty. Increase damage done, etc. At standard settings, Quill's quad blasters feel like pea shooters against 'bullet-sponge' enemies. Seems like they may have done this to encourage teamwork with the other Guardians, while also padding the length a bit.. However, ratcheting up damage dealt Really changes it from a bit repetitive, to fast and exciting.
I thought the Guardians where going to be Avengers game style knock offs. But I ended up loving the entire team. Dare I say maybe even more than the movie cast? Im shocked too.
Man I was reallllly hoping you covered this game on this channel. It’s absolutely a “Jake” game but this story was absolutely amazing and I’m feigning for a sequel now plus a Nova game hopefully
Agreed, I love this game. Still at chapter 9 because I am taking my time and savouring it. Will definately do a new game plus to make different choices. Also I love 'knowhere' because it has the Mass effect feel hub world vibe and especially the collectors imporium (make sure to do the song right in Mantlos to get the free pass to save you 5k) Full of awesome Easter eggs if you're a marvel comic fan. Hopefully this game which was a result of the failed Avengers game will bring back the single player narrative game into the mainstream.
My favorite character was the Lama :D. I believe this game was much richer than the movie. It has more stories and surprising stuff. At first, I was enjoying the gorgeous scenes, but in the end, the story got me. Lovely fun game.
i cried with the mom bit in ch 8, the only other games that have made me cry were rdr2 and spider man, games that make me emotional are my favorite kind.
Returned to replay this game after watching the 3rd movie, and man this game is underrated, it's soo good, the music, the story, the characters, the voice acting, the environments and level design it's all so good, it made me undervalue the movie 😂
The details provided on the skins remind me of superhero games from the early 2000s. That was in the first sandbox spiderman game and in a wolverine game.
Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely my game of the year. The story is everything that I want, weird character, a fun tone and actual emotion scenes. As someone who has dappled in the comics it’s really cool to see certain Easter eggs for different characters.
The most dialogs I ever seen on a game lol
@@dannypassion for some reason, it kinda works here lol.
I usually hate when characters talk too much, but I didn't seem to mind this one.
It’s fine to have lots of dialogue if it’s actually good dialogue and not shitty.
I think Forza horizon 5 will rival it for game of the year but this a great game also

" Budget Cuts!" Drax
“There was a character limitation” Rocket
As soon as the game starts you're hit immediately with that "wait...this is different" feel.
and the game only gets better from there
I bought this full price which I usually don't just so they get the money they deserve and show that these games are amazing to have between all the multiplayer games out there.
Don't choose between ratchet and Guardians. Play them both. Absolutely worth your time^^
Just go buy the games now. Are you 12?
H3MPY, dude……you’re seriously going to be that cliche that rolls up with a fake Rolex, in a battered up, blacked out Ford Fiesta, pretending like it’s a Ferrari, with your drive by bragging, as if you can afford every game that comes out. Is this the kind of person you want to be in life?
@@azuregiant9258 Uh, there is a big difference between buying every game that comes out and buying 2 of the best games of the year. I'm definitely not that guy you describe, but yea, I can easily afford to buy any games I want. Sorry you are broke.
Play them both eventually ratchet is better gameplay but i still like guardian more especially it's story
I started playing this as it's on the ps plus middle tier thing and I'm loving it. The gameplay is repepative BUT the gameplay reminds me of the old school DMC games. The story is fun so far and the music is like the cherry on top. So fun!
Just got the ps5 slim and so impressed about this game. I'm not a marvel guy but I gotta say this game is absolutely amazing and fun
This game was in the words of rocket flarking amazing this and riders republic are games of the year for me
This game did a really rare mix of making the comic fan in me happy, making the movie fan in me happy, and doing enough new stuff.
God you're a great reviewer. I was really hesitant on this game, but you gave me the push i needed. Cant wait for this story
The game is freaking great! I found myself smiling throughout the whole story, and that is something i havent done in a while! And the soundtrack!!! 👌
I think to me,the best part was the guardians.
Spoilers-
I really liked the development of the characters going from hating each other,to singing together and just getting along(to a certain point) some games the characters don't change at all, there still an A-hole throughout the game but on this game I ended up liking some teammates later on, due to how there attitude changed during the game.
Biggest surprise of the year. I got it for x mas expecting it to be okay. Have loved the shit out of it so far. On chapter 9.
I felt the same way at first BUT then I PLAYED it,I love this game.
Haven’t played it yet, came for the ramble. 10/10 will Christmas list
Loved it !! Finished it !! Favorite character is Kammy but I loved everything
I thought the Guardians where going to be Avengers game style knock offs. But I ended up loving the entire team. Dare I say maybe even more than the movie cast? Im shocked too.
Just beat chapter 6, i'm enjoying this so much. Full of surprises, worth every dollar
Jake, your enthusiasm for this game is palpable; I couldn't stop myself from buying it after hearing your glowing recommendation. Cheers dude!
I tyhought you would say the music immediately. I can't possibly pick a favorite. It is like picking my favorite of my vehicles.
My favorite character was the Lama :D. I believe this game was much richer than the movie. It has more stories and surprising stuff. At first, I was enjoying the gorgeous scenes, but in the end, the story got me. Lovely fun game.
I have 100% achievements in GOTG
Its great and i love it
i cried with the mom bit in ch 8, the only other games that have made me cry were rdr2 and spider man, games that make me emotional are my favorite kind.
That was in the first sandbox spiderman game and in a wolverine game.
yes!
