This is the best video from you I’ve seen. Since I’m already active in the merch space, I will be doing number 1 in 2025. 🎉
Thanks for the kind words, @samiralibabic, good luck!
Very good. Thanks a lot, Rob
1 and 3) Odoo does this and pricing is decent.
Its a hard nut to do with the flexibility (fam runs a big apparel business)
And odoo is already at the point where it can do that, the store as well already and all the business side of things
2) An MSP itself won't have that issue (I know ... I am one)
It is mainly for these NOC services - basically it's a white-labelled MSP that offers additional support to other MSPs - there are not that many in comparison to MSPs
If you could integrate with the systems specifically, then you could make something to make the MSP life better - which in-turn would help the NOC MSP
6) Airtime, notion or any of these simple db apps could do the job.
You can do images (assets), and data simply.
Would be a lot more affordable than the custom solution.
If that is what he was asking
Odoo looks like a nice ERP. I was trying to get a feel for it and its popularity by searching job boards and didn’t find much. Version 18 looks really solid. As someone who has used it, do you think it’s good enough to build a local retail and ecommerce business on?
@@GiantsOnTheHorizon Personally, I hate the thing.
UI is messy AF - stuff is all over the place - I am just glad since v16 that it has got so much faster (understatement here, like, they really have done well with the speed of it)
But at the same time... it works, and there is no other software that comes close to what it offers at the price it offers it at.
So I sit in a stalemate.
I will eventually write a custom frontend for it since I really don't like it lol (I dont want to have to write python code for UI stuff lol)
For what it is, it works pretty well.
My biggest gripe is the lack of documentation (more-so internal side) - since there are 3 ways to do anything in Odoo
1 - you are able to use Odoo studio or the build in tools to do what you need
2 - you get a addon/plugin built by someone else that does the task
3 - you integrate using it's API (enterprise/custom plan)
With #2, upgrades are a problem since you have to wait for all the dev's to test and update the plugins before you can update.
And #3 is a problem since there is sweet no documentation - it's basically an endpoint to access the db, yet there are validations and a whole bunch of stuff that has no documentation so you sit for days trying to work out why it won't accept a certain bit of data (that possibly worked in a prev version) but since it doesn't always tell you what the issue is, you end up head scratching < honestly, chatGPT has helped massively with this
Now, for your question - I run a software development, MSP, ISP and telecoms company on it.
Subscriptions don't really work the way ISPs work, so I have had to do some custom stuff to flow/gel.
But the rest of the stuff (integration with systems, banking, telecoms, isp side) is all integrated with a middleware that talks to the odoo API
- this way upgrades are a bit easier than having to deal with snakes (python is the programming language, I prefer .net and typescript)
I have approx 2 addons installed, 1 to style invoices and the other to fully brand Odoo and remove it's branding from everywhere.
(currently: I just did a server upgrade last night because they released a list of CVEs .... it took me 8h - so currently testing migrating to using containers over a server because its a PITA - so should be easier now).
So, to come around to the answer to your question: yes, with ease.
You can do stock management, POS, e-com for online sales - sales and leads for any sales people or what not.
It'll handle the account, staff, timesheets, payslips and you could handle the procurement from your suppliers ....
It'll take you a while to make it perfect, but off the bat, you can get going pretty quickly with all the things.
For hosting, if you wanna start off simple - Odoo online would work - but you very much will have limitations.
Odoo online doesn't allow you to install 3rd party plugins.
Then you can go to Odoo.sh - which you then can.
Unless you have server management skills, people or time - I recommend sticking to one of the 2 above.
If you do have the ability - then you can also self host (like we do - we need to because regulations) < just remember, they force annual billing for self hosting.
@ Wow! I have to say this is absolutely the best TH-cam response I’ve ever received. Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such a thorough assessment! It’s so hard to evaluate an ERP with how large they are so this type of feedback is invaluable!!
Key points:
• Find real problems people already have
• Start small, not every business needs to be huge
• Focus on business customers willing to pay
• Validate ideas before building anything
• Subscription > one-time payment
• Look for specific industry problems
Flash cards:
Q: What should you ask instead of telling your idea?
A: Tell me the problem it solves and for whom
Q: Why are B2B SaaS businesses often better than B2C?
A: More profitable, customers willing to pay more
Q: What's the first step in idea validation?
A: 2-hour online research looking for similar problems
Sounds like a general business idea, one can give to anyone, anytime.
I love the idea of a video showing nothing but a variety of these pitfalls, or what to look for that will NOT make a good idea
yeah, bad ideas seem to have more in common than good ones.
There’s a gazillion ways something can go wrong and very few to go right. It is great content but bad advice.
At this point, anything without AI at its core.
Hey @alastairtheduke, thanks for the suggestion! I'll add it to my list of potential future topics.
I’d take idea #5 and call it “It’s MAM!!!”
So are there Reddit threads where business owners essentially just submit software requests like this? 🤔
Not that I've found. You can see from the video that they're searching for these posts and I'm guessing it's not that easy to find. I've looked for stuff like this and never had much luck so kudos to the team.
The idea of an app where people make serious suggestions, then upvote based on who needs it would be fun. Sort of like a reverse product hunt.
Greg Isenberg has a great video on how he comes up with ideas he find on Reddit. At its core, he uses a freemium tool called Gummy Search. Pretty clever process...
@SOBEYOND Absolutely! Reddit can be a goldmine for these kinds of requests. It's a great way to uncover potential SaaS ideas that solve real problems.
Tons of companies are going to struggle with the spreadsheet mindset of their employees. Few of them understand the data nightmare they have created by churning out a dozen incompatible spreadsheets for every process.
@jdanorthwest Spreadsheet chaos is a real problem for many businesses, and that’s why it can be an opportunity for SaaS founders.
Title is wrong should say six not eights SaaS ideas
I would love to see a video on how you discovered these Reddit threads.

i wanted to work on web app or saas product that is about Electric Vehicles. What kind of problems people are facing frequently. so, that i can put them in my application. can anyone help me out?
@amancharahul5008 I'd recommend digging into EV forums and subreddits to uncover more specific pain points that EV owners are discussing frequently.
lol .. the historical museum catalogue software could be built in a few minutes... I'm serious. (unless there is far more stuff they want) Wish I had access to the person looking for it :D
ideas are just 6 and views are more than 33K :) and before someone else does
why don't you focus as well on B2C SaaS strategies?
There’s a video talking why. Very few - currently none - B2C SaaS are successful
B2C suck without vc funding is the TLDR
I’m a hard pass on B2C ideas. I have at least one video on this channel that covers why B2C is so bad.
Here's the video where Rob talks about B2B vs B2C: th-cam.com/video/CW5N1KjwJlc/w-d-xo.html
So, Rob wants us to race each other to start these? lmao
If someone reading this is at a company that would like one of these proposed SaaS products, let me know.
If you're willing to work with me I can build it for free for your use as I'm building it for a larger market.

What are you supposed to build when AI agents are supposedly going to wipe out every SaaS company in the next few years?
no they won't wipe out because each and every Saas product is an idea that solves real world problem. if anything the owners of the idea can make even more profits sice ai agents do the heavy lifting.
@oksdoksaodkad Great question! While AI is certainly changing the landscape, there will always be opportunities for innovative SaaS solutions that solve specific problems. Consider how you can leverage it to enhance your SaaS idea or create a unique offering that AI agents can't easily replicate.
✔️
It is not a good time to build a startup unless it's value proposition is a real world benefit based on AI at its core.
@brianWreaves I respectfully disagree. While AI is certainly a hot topic, there are still countless opportunities for startups that solve real-world problems without AI at their core. The key is finding a genuine pain point and addressing it effectively, regardless of the technology used.
@@MicroConf Perhaps, but how long until an AI solution can perform the same task and thus the product having a very short shelf-life.
video about saas ideas and in the middle of it you selling your own product, it's awful.
omg there are more ads
If you are this against capitalism you may be watching the wrong video.
it's exactly what all the youtubers do, it's what they've been told to do.. set up their funnels, use videos to draw people in, then send them to the real "business" since youtube doesn't really pay enough. it's hard to find nuggets of useful information in all the drudge.
It would be really nice if people were more honest about it. I guess they expect you to understand. After all, nothing's free.
@@fox4snce yeah, I know that's how it works, but I hate it when people don't even try to be at least somewhat honest.
@@doingwell5629it’s a sponsorship not his product. He has to pay his bills and eat too.
