Something else I just remembered that went “out” on my Tacoma within 50,000 miles was the Bluetooth on my stock radio. I had it reset by the dealership a few times, tried different phones, but at some point bluetooth just stopped working all together. I’ve since swapped out my stock radio for an aftermarket one with CarPlay and I’ve had no issues since. Anyways, thanks for watching the video and sharing your advice (especially on my steering rack leak)!
Thats probably common with later model toyotas. I had a 2014 rav4 with a stock head unit and it was useless then got a sony with carplay for about 300 bucks with installation included and it changed the whole car.
One thing I usually do when I see something that looks like it could be a leak,is thoroughly clean the area. Dirt, grease, etc. Clean it off make it look new. Then watch it like a hawk, lol. Sometimes, things just happen underneath the truck. Maybe not even a leak. But, unless you start fresh, you'll have a harder time determining if you're leaking and how much.
Yep. Could be just be some residual oil from an oil change that blew onto the boot with the wind blowing under while driving. And it will look fresh for a while.
Hello Chloe, My Tacoma has 149K and is still going strong lots of offroad miles love the decked system, new to your channel keep the killer videos coming Thanks.
If you get sumo springs from superspring international on the front and remove the front Sway bar, you'll have waaay better ride quality with not much added body roll. It's a lot more comfortable going over bumps in the road at speed, and if you ever drop the front tire down, such as off a rock or a curb, the truck will not shake as much. Your front end will also return to center much quicker offroad. Also, there's no more risk of the sway bar hitting the remote reservoir if there's no more sway bar.
I also had the same problem with my steering rack . Problem started at 20k miles . Currently at 31,000 miles (1.5 years later) still haven’t replaced it. 😊
I have a 2020 Tacoma and I’m just about to hit 45K. Some of the issues you point out won’t apply because I don’t have the same modifications as you but I’m all about maintaining my Tacoma to a point that most would consider to be over the top. I love this video because it has me looking for potential problems I hadn’t thought about. Thanks!
@@reedrk88t I don’t - some dealers charge as much as the repairs would cost for the warranty. Over 60k when the factory warranty runs out for power train would be worth it if it covers bumper to bumper. I wouldn’t pay for a warranty overlapping factory.
@@davidb9323 so what exactly is it that's an issue and I'm surprised you didn't get a 100k warranty with that rig. I'm wondering if they changed to a better warranty option in 19' or later. I was given one and it came from the factory.
That power steering leak looks very minor. You could probably get away with adding a small amount of seal reconditioner (i.e. at205 reseal) to the power steering fluid instead of replacing the entire rack
In the 90’s we had this great product called motor purr. It was a little bottle of seal swelling liquid. It was great for power steering leaks and even fixed a handful of jeep rear main seal leaks
Yours is like new looking, so is my 19 cement trd off road 4x4 - turned 164k today . Replaced so far 1 battery , 3 windshields , 3 sets of tires , 3” lift Fox shocks. And a large amount of money on Gas 😞 yours looks awesome and you’ve got a long way to go. Tnx for the videos.❤
I just had my 2021 TRD Sport in for a 40K service. No issues, however, about 30 miles after that, I got a check engine light ( I had a Pedal Commander installed). Took out the PC and brought it to the dealership. It ended up to be a throttle body replacement. The service tech, a friend, said this was the third one they've replaced and the previous two had PCs installed. The PC worked great, but since that event , I haven't put it back in. Probably going on sale on Marketplace. Other than that, the truck works great and no issues! Just a thought.
I have a 17 TRD off-road with an access cab. It has 25K miles on it and is not my daily driver. I noticed the shift lever (automatic transmission) was getting stiff and not wanting to move. Then, the D for drive would not come up on the gage cluster. It would even pop out of drive when I first started moving and I would have to play with the shifter to get it in the right spot to stay in drive. Also the cruise control would not work. Eventually, I got a check engine and traction control lights. Then one day it simply would not go into drive at all. Luckily I was at my house. I took the lever for the shifter cable off and the shifter moved freely. So I knew it was either the shifter cable or something inside of the transmission. I cleaned and sprayed WD40 on the shifter cable lever underneath the truck on the driver side where it goes into the transmission. It has worked perfectly for the last 2 months. I live in Ohio and the rust must of made the shifter lever stick.
I love that you point out the big and little things! Little things annoy me too! It is called caring about your huge investment! Keep up the great work!
No, after 149k my steering has no leaks (knock on wood); but I have the Texas assembled version of a 2nd gen pre-runner. Yes, I also have very light swirl marks on my dash. Seems it's an ongoing flaw with different generations. Thank you for your videos.
I also had the rear leaf springs sag over time. I have a camper shell and often load up the bed to go camping. I ended up installing the Ironman Foam Cell Pro suspension kit and the rear springs made a big difference.
Yup my 2022 has the misaligned bumper....3800 miles and the truck is leveled from the dealer. I have a shell and 100 additional pounds in it and at times its looking like it might be sagging a tad. Just ordered Firestone 2407 airbags to add a bit of lift. I don't offroad much but do carry a load when traveling. Bikes, racks trailer with kayaks. Went from American full size trucks to Tacoma again....will see....in the 80's they were tough little trucks. Good video.
The Tacoma beds are composite instead of steel so they will flex, especially since you off road. If you have seen other you tube videos they put stiffeners in the corner of the bed(by the tailgate to help stiffen the bed to handle the add weight of campers. Just something I noticed since I’m planning to do that also and again keep up the videos. Very informative and detailed.
Have about 54k on mine. No major issues. My blind spot monitor went out and also my drivers side heated seat. Which I’ve heard it’s really common on our trucks. I just did a tranny drain and refill, heard they recommend doing it at 60k. I will also be doing the spark plugs very soon. 👍🏽. Love your content btw. Good job!
@@joshuahinojosa2103 I did it my self, actually its really easy. Almost like an oil change but a couple more steps. There is a couple helpful videos on TH-cam 👍🏽
@@SeanStewart88 I have not, I really love the blind spot monitor too but the blind spot module that is on the drivers side which I heard is the “main module” that controls both sides is like $600! I might have to find a used one at a junkyard or something but it did go out like at 30-40k miles. 😤
@@DosbrosTacosandEurosyeah just another gadget to break. Still have my old school 1st gen tundra trd. It's gettin old, but it will probably outlast me. I just can't justify buying anything with the market prices these days. Even on used trucks. If i do buy anything again it would be the last of the dinosaurs...the 5th gen TankRunner. But they're about to go extinct. Maybe get one used when the car market ever freakin settles.
I've had my used Tundra for 2 years now and its at over 140k miles. Surprisingly ownership has just mostly been oil changes and filters. There is recently purchasing new tires after my previous KO2s had finally worn down enough for replacement. Its estimated that they lasted over 60k miles if not more but not sure of exacts as I didn't originally put them on. The only big issue to happen is a part that had to be replaced realting to the brake lights always being on. A few buttons on the stock radio were starting to go out when I first got the truck, however, I had already planned to replace it with an aftermarket carplay option which I did. So glad to say its been mostly regular maintenance! Also would've got a Tacoma but the Tundra won me over with the tow capacity, just wish I had Tacoma fuel economy.
Hello Chloe , I don’t know if you know but the tacomas are known for the needle bearing breaking!! That’s exactly in the area where you see the leak. I just had my needle bearing removed and replaced with a much better bearing from ECGS it’s about $90 bucks and a great mechanic near San Diego fixed it. Don’t even take it to the dealer they’re just going to install another needle bearing. This usually happens when you raise your Tacoma.
That’s right, I can attest to that… I bought the same bushing kit from ECGS and had it installed counting the parts for $240. My Tacoma has a 2 inch lift and started vibrating at around 60 to 65 mph and was making a humming noise the ECGS bushing kit, fixed it up like new.
Thank you for the advice! have heard about the ECGS bushing, although I don’t feel the vibration issues after lifting as described by others which is why I haven’t done it. But it’s something to certainly be aware of prior to lifting a Tacoma though!
I'm coming up to 150k on my 16, keep an eye on your coolant bypass line on the back of the heads. Mine cracked just under 100k. Supposedly the part was updated in 18 but I know of 2 separate 19s that ended up with the same cracked pipe.
Great video and thank you for the content. I drive a first gen 2003 Taco that just last week rolled over 500 000 kilometers (approx 310 000 miles). I replaced my original steering rack at about 420 000 km, so I wouldn't be too happy about a leaking rack at 50k miles. I agree 100% with other commenters here in that I would clean that boot spic-and-span and watch it like a hawk- maybe you caught some sort of splash from a parking lot up onto that boot. It might even have been an oily sheen on a puddle in an off-road location. If the rack actually is leaking, I'd consider taking it to a REALLY good shop that knows how to reseal it before dropping $900 for a new one. Shops that can do this work well are not easy to find. And the leaf springs! The truck I'm driving now is my third first-gen, and all 3 of them were underbuilt on the rear suspension. I had to put helper leafs in each, and I'm nearly ready to put a whole new set into the 2003. It's a little disappointing that Toyota hasn't engineered a solution during the evolution to Gen 3. Thanks again- eat, sleep, and you know the rest.
As an independent import shop, we flush power steering systems every 35,000 miles. We utilize BG automotive additives, lubricants and cleaners. We also utilize Lubegard 100% synthetic power steering fluid when we don’t have their products readily available. I own a 2007 Tundra and other than replacing some of the rubber/nitrile hoses, no issues with the rack/pinion, Ove used the Lubegard fluid with excellent results. Consider adding 4-6 ounces of ATP 201 after the flush. That should solve your issue. BTW, if you must replace your rack and pinion, Toyota also sells remanufactured rack and pinions. Some dealers won’t tell you since they make less $$$ on these units.
Well darn, sounds like some issues with quality. I have an '03 and haven't had any of those issues with 212k miles on it. I have replaced 2 plastic door handles, but the Texas sun can make anything brittle after 20 years. And I accidently pinched the plastic strap off that connected the gas cap, replaced that last year. I currently have 2 led lights out in the instrument panel. No wonder why people come up to me in parking lots offering to buy it! My dad once told me the more the do-dads on something, the more chance of something breaking.
I have a 21' TRD Off Road & I was surprised that my leaf springs went into a big Carolina Squat when I put an Uhaul car hauler attached to it. I was within the limits that Toyota set for the tongue weight and for the overall weight, but that was just the empty trailer & it made my leaf springs squat big time. I have never seen a 4 wheel drive rear leafs bend like that with such little weight applied & I ended up buying the Old Man EMU 2 3/4" inch heavy duty leaf springs, solved that problem real quick, but that did make for a rougher ride when the bed is empty. I am running with the adjustable 31/2" Rough Country Vertex reservoir shocks & front coil overs.
Just wanted to say that I appreciate this look at the truck. I'm considering a Tacoma for my next truck but don't really know much about them, so I've been watching vids & getting schooled up on them. Good stuff ;)
The Toyota TRD Off Road is the best quality with the highest resale value on the market. I took my time looking at the Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet ZR2, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Titan XD, etc. I had to settle for the smaller size 4WD because my garage would not fit the full size Toyota Tundra that I wanted. You will not be disappointed with the Tacoma.
2021 tundra 27k miles list of complaints haha Biggest gripe by far is how easily everything in the interior scratches and I mean everything. All the door panels plastics just the most minor brush of anything against leaves ugly ass scratch marks and it drives me insane!!! Transmission does weird shifting sometimes, doesn’t like being cold. Downshifts way too much while at any slight hill. Not as smooth as my previous 2013 tundra. Seats are not comfortable at all, I actually think my old 2020 Tacoma was more comfortable than my tundra. Just stuff as a board and hard on long trips. Not the best seats by a long shot. Terrible stock tires, which I guess is to be expected. They’re at 5/32nds with only 27k miles . Pretty lame Everything seems to be holding up great. No mechanical issues, nothing broken. Just minor annoyances more than anything.
I have a TRW rack on my 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4. It had moisture like yours at 75,000 miles. I never serviced it. Today it has 149,000 miles on it. Years ago they quoted me a huge number for a new one, and declined the new rack. I bought the truck new and it does not leak any fluids onto my driveway or garage floor. The power stearing pump level is always OK. I would not do anything if it was my Toyota Tacoma. Take care, be safe.
I can 100% attest to the saggy leaf pack; I run a camper shell and bed setup all the time, and the stock leafs are very wimpy. When I’m able to lift the truck after saving for a decade and a half, I’m gonna get an entirely new pack.
My mats have begun to roll up too, no heat as it has been winter since I purchase and no off roading either. Just cheap mats in my opinion. I have had my truck for 3 months now.
Thank you for being so upfront and honest with your content! That being said I now have a new gripe 😤 I now know my bumper caps are not aligned. And now my quick response 😂 My first new Toyota was 87 22re, 2016 is my last! I have owned every model year, and most 4Runner model. I have baby'd my 16 Tacoma compared to all others and.... interior is garbage, weak, scratches easy, seat heater shorted out, carpet and mats thin, Exterior gas door tweak, it's garbage, rain drainage clogs up, outside plastic is garbage, scratches easy, weak bumper cover, 47,000 and I have to add power steering fluid every 3months, I have the timing cover leak 🤬 with no Toyota recall 🤬 Tacoma is stock suspension, stock tire size, I have done air intake upgrade and supercharger coil packs to improve shifting and gas mileage 👍. I would trade this truck for a 89 22 re in excellent condition in a half of a heartbeat!! They were the last good Toyota's IMO.
The 16, 17, and part of the 18 years were full of issues. They really fixed almost all of the issues (by 2019)other that the AC not being the best in hot environments.
Good video. Thanks for the heads up on what to be aware of. Although I don't own a Tacoma, I'd like to get a 4Runner for my next vehicle, but may end up getting a Tacoma. I'm still babying my 2005 Tundra. Things just wear out over time.
About plastic and scratches....Meguires Plasti X is a great product to remove scratches. You can use it on almost anything that is scratched. I replaced my rear springs on my 13 Tacoma. The replacement springs made for better ride quality and better towing. The OEM springs were OK but one element of the leaf did crack.
Greatings from a Canadian neighbour! Good review Chloe! I just ordered a new 2023 Taco TRD Sport Premium(long bed) last week. Should be here May 21! I was really lucky to find one that soon in our area. Not to mention it will probably be the last year of this very popular generation. I do enjoy the info you share on the Taco which will definitly help me down the road. Keep up the good vids and looking forward to the next one. Cheers!
Maybe a difference in lighting, but it looked to me like the bed to cab clearance was off, side to side. That might make a difference on your bumper caps too. For the P/S leak, others gave good advice to clean it thoroughly & watch it. Also the P/S seal conditioner sounds good too. 👍✌️❤️
I’ve done two racks on my truck and I’m 60k lol. It’s a pain in the ass but after the first one it gets easy. Pull oil filter off unbolt rack ( some people cut the bolts off cause you can’t reach one) and then slide out the whole rack with tie rods attached from the passenger side. And when u put it back in just put the bolts in backwards to make it easy for the next time.
I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 and I have experienced a lot of issues in my opinion. I had an AC blower motor go out even after the recall, a leaking rear differential, paint failure with the super white paint code 040 in many areas of the truck, rear brake drum problems, and the worst being a rear main seal leak. All of which happened at or before 50k miles.
2015 Tacoma with 368,000 miles and the only thing that I have done is 2 tune ups, brakes all around and many sets of tires. I do change oil every 7,000 miles which happens about every 6 to 8 weeks!
I noticed yesterday that my power steering fluid level had dropped a little. Not much, but enough to notice. I couldnt find any leaks, but with all the snow we've had i couldve missed it. I went by our local dealer and he couldnt see anything either. Its 21 TRDOR with just over 28k on the odo. Im going to get the drop in fluid documented with toyota for any warranty issues that come up.
Best technique I have found for keeping the dash clean specially the clear plastic covering the gauges is a 2 inch paint brush maid of natural animal hair. It’s Bristol ps are the in and soft . Never wipe clear plastic with a cloth. Even the cloth is wet it it will put micro scratch’s on poly carbonate. . My truck is 14 years old. And the clear gauge cover his zero scratches. Same goes for the entire dash . Personally I think chemicals like armor all make dash get dirtier.
2017 Off-Road w/76K miles; on 2nd set of tires; 2nd battery; maintained at Toyota dealers; no major mods done to this truck; 2nd windshield; I get minor windshield cracks which is likely random rock hits.
Changing suspension is most of your issues. As a Tacoma owner for 17 years, an engineer, and an auto enthusiast, making changes to several aftermarket parts and adding weight via bumpers etc will cause lots of issues over time.
Loved this! Ive done quite a few mods on my 2020TRD Sport 4x4...she only has 11,500k on her but they are all miles Ive put on her since I got her right before the pandemic hit. I did have a 2nd gen (2012 same model...almost stock...just larger tires and a 3 inch lift i had put in around the 50k mark) i did trade her in at 65k for that 2020 and she only depreciated 5k!! Anyway..minor issue that drives me nuts is how easy it is to scratch the plastic on the interior plastic of the doors...I swear I just look at it and it scratches lol. I do take her offroad and she has a few pinstripes from the NM mesquite and catclaw but i wish protech could come up with something for the interior doors like they did for the pillars on the outside...enjoyed the video and the chance to say a little minor issue...she is a beast offroad with her 5.29s, OTT tune and the Dobinson MRR adjustable suspension along with their leaf package. Its been awesome...and yeh i had the bumper cap thing too😆
Hi, about the leak on your rack. Check your transmission lines to your radiator. I had the upper transmission line leak at 5k miles, and it looked just like your leak. Just run your hand along the hoses to check for leaks. Hope this helps.
21 trd Offroad tech package 20k miles, I’ve had an intermittent rapid turn signal flash, typically when it’s cold out but has happened in the summer too. Toyota has no clue what the problem is. Other than that no issues!
It's amazing, my 2006 2nd Gen Tacoma has over 250,000 on it and the list of things I have had to fix or replace has been very minimal. I can always trust that my truck will get me where I need to go.
I've got 242k on my 2007 with a 6 speed manual, 4.0, 4x4. In that time I've replaced the driveshaft u joints and carrier bearing, rebuilt the front wheel bearings, replaced the alternator, replaced the half shafts, replaced the clutch, and did the brakes. I use it as a work truck for my yacht restoration company and tow boats with it. I do all my own maintenance and repairs. 50k is absolutely nothing.
When I bought my Gen 3, the next month was my Bday, so my son gifted me the WeatherTech mats. I'm at 46k and they are holding up nicely. Very pleased. Did you notice the bed being off-center? Mentioned it at the dealership, we walked around and looked, they're all that way. Since all were like that, I assume there's some assembly quirk. Apparently, I was the first person that had mentioned it.. He did mention there's a few things like that from one assembly location to another. Anyway, you're most appreciated. Always look forward to your videos.
I think my bed is centered, but I could believe that some Tacomas are slightly misaligned during assembly! Uneven and off-center body panels appear to be common unfortunately
I get it! Mine is a 2019 off road, as well as, my daily driver and those mats suck, but I haven’t changed them. I’ve been debating because I don’t really care, but I care. I’m the only one ever in this thing so…🤷🏼♂️
I have the same shocks. Those DSC adjusters, especially the high speed knob is so hard to twist… Also, I don’t have an issue with my bumper cap. Flaws from factory for me is the gap between the hood and front grill is different from left and right side. I always look for this on other trucks. That and the gap between the top of my bed rail and my back window is different from the left and ride side.
One major problem with my 2019, at 34000 miles, had to have the right catalytic converter replaced. It was covered by warranty. Toyota had no reason for the problem. At 37000 miles the left one had to be replaced. Once again, Toyota had no answer as to why. Other than this, I really like my truck it just turned over 40000 miles
Well if you had a 1st gen Tacoma you can expect major discrepancies around the 20 year 240K mile mark. prior to that (some where around 150K) just 1 door actuator, reseal water pump with FIPG, cracked rollover valve , starter, and steering rack bushing repalcement. At 240K ... Rear wheel bearings, Lower control arms and ball joints, and third member howling. This truck is so good if they banned ICE I would find a way to convert it. I still can't beleive she's on her same altenator.
I got the same steering rack leak actually, right around 53K. Monitoring it and making sure it isn’t anything major. About 57K miles and a 2019 TRD OR. I haven’t noticed anything after 3K miles or seen the fluid level change so I’m not sure.
I’m having the same issues with my passenger fox performance elite shock. I took the knobs apart and had tons of junk in it. Super easy to take apart and clean. I’m going to check my sway bar tho
I got almost 90k miles on a 2017 Accord, brand new, only thing I've replaced is tires, and in the first two month, the motor for the wipers, under warranty!
I have a 2018 taco and my steering rack started leaking exactly the same way as yours at 50k miles and i just left it alone. Now i have 110k miles and the leak has not changed at all. It does not drip and fluid level does not change.
My 2017 is all dry underneath. I would recommend cleaning it off really well and the watch it. That could possibly be something from the road. And also if it is a seep in the rack and pinion unit the moisture will show up again and then you will have a good idea as to how bad the seep is. I’ve only changed fluids and brakes. Nothing else. My 2017 is awesome I Love it. Got a lift and it’s so much fun. Just a daily driver and good to take fishing off road.
I bought my 2018 TRD OR with 42k miles , at 63k miles the steering started leaking but I bought Toyota Premium Care extended warranty with the truck so it was covered. I have coverage for 60k extra miles from the time of purchase so 102k.
Im at 88k miles with a fox 2.0 lift and 33’s. Mostly highway driving and light offroading. My rack have been replaced and was almost dangerous to drive. Completely blown out and heavily damage teeth inside the rack.
Watch your battery. My 2021 just had the battery blow out the bottom and acid everywhere. I had to open a case with Toyota and having the hood and fender repainted along with replacing parts (edit 18k miles)
I've hit 62k on my 2020 Sport and have only replaced idler pulleys/belt/battery and soon tires. I've had it since brand new but will be selling it for another new Tacoma I have showing on pre-order for almost 10 months
I had a first year 3rd gen taco and coming from a long line of previous 4Runner and a second child I thought any shortcomings would be made up by space as I put a camper shell on immediately. I could not get rid of that truck fast enough. All drive by wire and mine sometime would not go into reverse and dealer could not fix it. After 3-4 trips to shop all they did was glacé the ecu as they put it. On the last trip I told them to keep it and I left in a new 4Runner Trd off road premium I love it after 98k and lots of those were earned. Heavily modified and not a single small issue yet. The spot on your lower front bedside looks to me like a bottom out and the tire hit it. Ifs leaf sprung trucks are the worst of both worlds. A tire on a leaf may appear to have tons of room but the it hops and a little axle wrap later and you don’t. Speaking from owning ten 4x4 trucks and 34 years of wheeling. I am far from knowing it all but I know what I know. Also really sucks about your rack.
Do you have a affiliate link to screen protech? I just picked up a new ford in January and plan on ordering one for the center unit but I like that it comes with an instrument cluster protecter as well.
Man...I better go check my bumper caps! Im at about 41K on my 2017 TRD Sport, no issues. Just changed my Manual trans fluid and flushed my engine coolant. Only thing I had to replace was some light bulbs and the battery.
Bumper. I’ve had to install bumpers on my previous trucks. Most bumpers are adjustable up and down. I usually had another person to eyeball it while I tighten. Hope this helps. Although this is my first 21 Off Road Tacoma, I’m slowly modifying it.
Chloe I have a 2019 , when did you have to replace front brakes
Chloe I had them change mine a year after I bought it the instrument cover, it actually had cracks in it , where did you get the instrument cover
Lucas Oil makes a power steering stop leak that is worth trying 🤙🏽
One thing I usually do when I see something that looks like it could be a leak,is thoroughly clean the area. Dirt, grease, etc. Clean it off make it look new. Then watch it like a hawk, lol. Sometimes, things just happen underneath the truck. Maybe not even a leak. But, unless you start fresh, you'll have a harder time determining if you're leaking and how much.
Highly recommend, I can’t tell ya how many times leaks are far more calculable or found by just taking a couple minutes of proper cleaning.
You might want to top off the power steering reservoir with AT-205 seal conditioner. It really works and is well worth a try!
Is that covered under warranty?
What year is your taco?
I have a 2020 Tacoma and I’m just about to hit 45K. Some of the issues you point out won’t apply because I don’t have the same modifications as you but I’m all about maintaining my Tacoma to a point that most would consider to be over the top.
Could you just put this in as a preventative?
Yours is like new looking, so is my 19 cement trd off road 4x4 - turned 164k today . Replaced so far 1 battery , 3 windshields , 3 sets of tires , 3” lift Fox shocks. And a large amount of money on Gas 😞 yours looks awesome and you’ve got a long way to go. Tnx for the videos.❤
That's impressive mileage for a 19'
wow. No oil leaks or spark plugs ?
@@davidb9323 nope, nothing. No dings, dent’s ..probably going to get plugs and brakes in April
3 windshields? Hitting low tree limbs much?
@@cydonianman full send 🤣
I’ve been meaning to order the screen protectors but this video finally pushed me to get them before the scratches happen. Thanks for the reminder
Oh man, that sounds like a terribly annoying issue, but glad you got in there and seemingly figured it out!
I'm glad you shared your experiences. I'm at 17k on a '21 and it's not my daily driver. So far so good.
I have a 21 and I just broke 10k
@@hardenxx1335 Awesome, I hope you do let it get out to stretch its legs
@@hardenxx1335 Mine just broke 13k.
@@ryanm4013 living in Hawaii my mileage will slowly creep lol
Steering rack looks good. There’s a guidance on amount of drip within standard.
And will crack if you drive motorcycles on the tailgate as well.
Total Chaos has the best designed bed stiffeners 🤙🏽
Have about 54k on mine. No major issues. My blind spot monitor went out and also my drivers side heated seat. Which I’ve heard it’s really common on our trucks. I just did a tranny drain and refill, heard they recommend doing it at 60k. I will also be doing the spark plugs very soon. 👍🏽. Love your content btw. Good job!
Did you do the drain yourself, and was it complicated? I've been wanting to drain mine and replace fluid.
@@joshuahinojosa2103 I did it my self, actually its really easy. Almost like an oil change but a couple more steps. There is a couple helpful videos on TH-cam 👍🏽
Mine has 54k also, my blind spot monitors went out also. Have you fixed yours?
So happy to see Cody 🐶 get a cameo 😀. Great video 👍. I hope everything is ok with your steering box. ♥️🌮🐕🐾
My 17 off road bypass cracked, cant miss the red fluid on the floor. Toyota wanted $2200, I called corporate, they paid the bill. That was stand up
Great video and thank you for the content.
Thanks for the insight! I’m going to follow this
Well darn, sounds like some issues with quality.
Screen Protech is so worth it. Bought it on your recommendation and glad I did.
Another great video Chloe! I too have just begun to notice the scratches on my odometer plastic, I definitely need that film!
2021 tundra 27k miles list of complaints haha
Biggest gripe by far is how easily everything in the interior scratches and I mean everything.
Pretty lame
Everything seems to be holding up great.
The instrument panel “glass” in my ‘15 scratches so easy also. I replaced it, and it was scratched again very soon. Thanks for the solution!
I think your honesty is refreshing. Love your videos!
I can 100% attest to the saggy leaf pack; I run a camper shell and bed setup all the time, and the stock leafs are very wimpy. When I’m able to lift the truck after saving for a decade and a half, I’m gonna get an entirely new pack.
I installed the 2,75" lift heavy duty Old Man Emu leaf springs. It did not break the bank. It cost me around $500 to buy & install them.
My first gen taco has 185k miles. Rock solid. Nice to see that Toyota still builds their trucks to the same build quality. :D
So… I’m pretty sure that the off-roading is making your floor mats curl. 😊 That my take on it anyway! Thanks Chloe. I appreciate your content!
I bet its the heat
My mats have begun to roll up too, no heat as it has been winter since I purchase and no off roading either. Just cheap mats in my opinion. I have had my truck for 3 months now.
Get weather tech mats
Sucks to be you 🤣
Thanks to your videos Chloe, I had the Screen Protech before my taco showed up. Put it on as soon as I got the taco home the first day
Great video! Do you have a link or video install on the bigger stereo screen?
Greatings from a Canadian neighbour! Good review Chloe! I just ordered a new 2023 Taco TRD Sport Premium(long bed) last week. Should be here May 21! I was really lucky to find one that soon in our area. Not to mention it will probably be the last year of this very popular generation. I do enjoy the info you share on the Taco which will definitly help me down the road. Keep up the good vids and looking forward to the next one. Cheers!
How do you like your TRD Sport? Waiting for mine to arrive early August!
Going to roll 50k on mine this weekend! It’ll be 5yrs old in April too. Mine has been great overall too.
Good information, thanks! I'm working on 16k miles at this time, so the heads up are great to have.
I have tried adjusting my rear bumper lol. Mine is just like yours. Thanks so much, now I know I am not alone
I absolutely love all of your videos! Keep it up!
Don't worry, my Hilux has the same problem at 267,009 miles.... keep it clean after off-road trips
Its been awesome...and yeh i had the bumper cap thing too😆
my 1999 taco has 300k miles and I've never replaced that rack ! Tacos are solid
floor mats: perhaps warping due to heat if the truck is consistently in the sunlight without any shade or tinted windows or anything like that
my 2018 trd off road with 2in lift bilstein 6112 1 in rear 285/75/16 4.88 nitro gear with 65050 miles no problems with steering rack!
I have had 3 tundra’s and 3 Tacoma’s .
I prefer my 2022 Tacoma TRD 4 wheel drive.
Best truck I have ever had.
Hi, about the leak on your rack. Check your transmission lines to your radiator. I had the upper transmission line leak at 5k miles, and it looked just like your leak. Just run your hand along the hoses to check for leaks. Hope this helps.
Great video. I have a 2021 TRD Sport. I just checked the alignment on my rear bumper and everything is good. I guess I got lucky.
Another good video, how's the OTT tune treating you? Will you be doing an update video on the tune in the future?
2015 Tacoma. Have Leer camper shell. Noticed sagging before but especially after. Added Firestone air bags and no more sagging problems.
Thanks for all your videos as they have been very helpful to me.
congrats on 100k, being genuine shines through
I get it! Mine is a 2019 off road, as well as, my daily driver and those mats suck, but I haven’t changed them. I’ve been debating because I don’t really care, but I care. I’m the only one ever in this thing so…🤷🏼♂️
I have the same shocks. Those DSC adjusters, especially the high speed knob is so hard to twist…
Also, I don’t have an issue with my bumper cap. Flaws from factory for me is the gap between the hood and front grill is different from left and right side. I always look for this on other trucks. That and the gap between the top of my bed rail and my back window is different from the left and ride side.
Great video as always Chloe ,we love you.
How bout using a good quality silicone spray on the boots and suspension bushings? Also works really good on the door window rubber.
My 2019 had the rear bumper cap issue. I messed with it a bit and loosened up the bumper and did the best I could to make myself happy.
As always, thanks for the great detailed information!
My 2018 had the evaporator core fail at 59,000 miles. Toyota took care of it. Buried behind the dash, complete dash removal to change it out!
Chloe, as always, I love your videos! Super helpful. One question, where did you get the front bumper light bar/bully bar? What brand is that?
My front bumper is from 4WP. Here is a link to my install video!

I bought my 2018 TRD OR with 42k miles , at 63k miles the steering started leaking but I bought Toyota Premium Care extended warranty with the truck so it was covered. I have coverage for 60k extra miles from the time of purchase so 102k.
My 2021 floor mats curled up on the same place you showed in your video. So I went with weather tech
Chloe the only problem that your Toyota has is the rack and pinion. I don't consider the other parts because they're aftermarket.
Try using NOVUS scratch removal on plastic. It really works. There are a few different pastes for the depth of scratch.
Hi Chloe great content! , should your fire extinguisher be at you driver side seat?..Looks unsafe
Nice video!! Apreciate your transparency with your Tacoma mods! ……..maybe heat that plastic trim piece and mold it would help?
Bumper. I’ve had to install bumpers on my previous trucks. Most bumpers are adjustable up and down. I usually had another person to eyeball it while I tighten. Hope this helps.
Although this is my first 21 Off Road Tacoma, I’m slowly modifying it.
