I straight held my face when it broke. Great lesson in persistence. I would have said "you know what? A bowl is fine."
Thank You
You literally were killing me each time you kept thinning it where it broke. Minus that, it's lovely.
Thank You Troy, you're still here to comment ! I win again !!! lol
Love love love that!! My word! You weren't kidding! Kids and I were like, "Oh No!" every time it broke. We knew you would WIN! Amazing goblet! Gotta get me some planets 😉
Thank you KIM ! lol yeah it was a pain, nothing like starting the project at noon and trying to make it work when you're in a hurry !. lol
Kim, I just ordered my Planet Molds!
Love the finished goblet. Well played to you for your persistence. A lot of people would of given up much earlier. 👍
Thank you Simon, I did give up but then kept going.
The fact that you left the fails in speaks greatly of your character. Inspiring for those of us just learning to just keep at it. Thanks!
@@PohlBarnProductions Jupiter-ish and Mars look super cool. Maybe a translucent dark gray/charcoal resin next time. Maybe bits of soft metal or glow-in-the-dark for starry effect.
I am glad you didn't give up. I had someone tell me when I was a teenager. The test of your character is what it takes to stop you
Thank you for sharing.
Thank You Mark
WoW I didn’t expect to see this piece make the finish line!!! You’re determination and humour got you a big win on this one !!!! The use of the leftover resin in the sphere Mold is a great idea (thanks for the link) it’s a spectacular effect. Tim
Thank You Tim Glad you enjoyed it
I was saying the whole time, don’t make that stem to thin... Then watching it wobble with that tennis ball in there, I kept saying that’s gonna break. And just when I thought you were about to prove me wrong...yep. It broke!
Thank you , it happens
The Pohl Barn Productions still love watching your videos though ☺️
Liberty Micro Farm
... and I was scratching my head the first time he glued bad wood together. 😳
My first thought was, “How the heck is he gonna turn glass marbles?” I had major anxiety until I realized they weren’t glass. 😂 I can’t wait to see more planets, now. 😊
Thank You Jennifer, you can not even imagine how many people still think they are glass marbles
Yeah, that confused me to
I was screaming "oh no!" Glad you persisted.
Thank You Michael
Loved the shape and beautiful colors
Thank You Norma
I'm gonna win, I'm gonna win, I'M GONNA WIN!!! We have a winner 🏆!! That is awesome Doug. What an amazing imagination you have.
Thank You Thank You
Doug...You have got to be kidding me! Your saves are incredible! That is a sweet combination you did!
Thank You Robert
I love it, despite the trouble it gave you. Its so cute! Im happy you didnt give up! Thank you Doug!
Thanks again Texana!
It is 1am here and I am yelling No!!!!! each time it broke off! I was holding my breath too. Who knew wood turning could be so suspenseful!! I love the planets.
lol just like cliff hangers ! thanks for the giggle Tanya and thanks for watching
And it's Doug for the win!!! Never give up. Great project. Love the look.
You got that right! Thank You
That's not a crack it's Thor !!!
Bahahaha I've not laughed as much at a video for a long time Doug, freaking funny man 😂😂🤣
Welcome to my world 😭
Glad you stuck with it and got an awesome end result dude, looks brilliant!!
Thanks for the shout out, much appreciated 👍👍👍👍
Thank You Steve Glad you enjoyed it, this was for you, two days from start to finish, pressing my luck the entire ride ! hope that shout out helps !
@@PohlBarnProductions Really appreciate the time you put into mate 👍
Love seeing someone have the kind of problems I do. It gives me hope that some day I may make something nearly as nice. I only have a mini lathe so I can’t make large pieces but I can break things. Thank you for taking the time to show what can be done with time and practice.
Thank You David
Absolutely loving the color and glitter in this one! This goblet is terrific!
Thank you, I was a afraid you'd forgotten about me, catch up with me next month !
I admire your determination!! Its a BEAUTIFUL piece!
Perseverance pays off. The planetary motif is beautifully brought out.
Thank You James
A Goblet Worthy of it's own pedestal.👑👍♥️😁
Thank you
Great job Doug, my heart sank when it broke, only fellow turners know that gutted feeling.
Still a great result, love it 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank You Mark
I find myself nervous when you are working with something so delicate because it CAN break. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much!
It turned out cool looking! I still can't believe how many times you caught it and fixed it. I love the purple and then the planets are just so cool! 💜
Thank you Tracey
Another great result despite the trouble it gave you. I always like your work Doug.
Thank You Randy Glad you enjoyed it
I had to pause and catch my breath after it broke. Way to come back from all that. It turned out fantastic !!
Thank You Ann
You break my heart. This piece is so beautiful thanks for sharing your work and heartache
Thank you so much!
I love it when you start giggling when things are going well 😃
@ 16:45 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
yes it broke again for the last time while packaging it and I had to refund the buyer
Great project. I was not happy with the foot design, but apparently you weren’t either. Love the refinement you made to it. The breakage was all in the weak point. The next time you turn a goblet with a thin stem, or even a thin area like this one, instead of compression pressure, try taping the cup to your cone center and applying pulling pressure. You also don’t want to stop the lathe once you get pretty thin. The restarting adds stress to the thinnest area that will weaken or even break your stem.
Beautiful piece Doug. Glad you explained the planets. I thought they were wood marbles. It all worked out. Super piece even with the flaws.
had to refresh to find it, Thank You Doug ! I will keep those idea's in mind, I really hate making goblets but those suggestions might just help me out.
The Pohl Barn Productions they helped me. Broke several because of birth situations. When I was clued in on those two things it made all the difference. Got stems down to 1/16th-3/64ths.
I absolutely love this little goblet you made. It was nice to be in the workshop with you again. I love the colors you made with this one. I was nervous that it would break but I didn’t realize how many times. Yet so beautifully done. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You Thank You Linda
You have amazing patience. It's awesome, you are the best Doug 👍 i appreciate
Wow, thank you
I am really sorry it broke Doug. This was a real pearl, but even it broke so many times it is still an amazing project my friend. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Thank you
As soon as it started to wobble, I started getting nervous, and then....
Glad you got it finished. The top is amazing.
Thank You Gail
Great job for a trial. I love the planet idea. It is just beautiful.
Thank You Michele
Beautiful! I love all your work.
Awesome Thank you Kellie
Wow! That was quite the adventure, I'm impressed with your ability to laugh at the problem and battle your way through it. Very good vid for turners and non-turners & the goblet looks good. I'm sure we'll see another one in the future. Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you Harold, you have to laugh at it or you'll never finish anything
You have patience. I would have started crying and thrown it across the room after the first break!
Thank You Mandy
I can't recall ever cringing that many time in a 26 minute span. The planet/space effect was spot on! Nice work in the end!
Thank You Andy
Never yelled during a wood turning project..... till today... ;) nice save and I love the Planets!
Thank You , lol
Such a beautiful goblet, love your design, colours and the finish
Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed your video
Thank you so much!
That goblet is absolutely amazing! Nicely done sir.
The break adds character
Thank You
The planets are really cool! Even with all the problems, it turned into a really cool goblet!
Thank You Levi
It looks like the Holy Grail! So delicate and colorful!
Thank You Thank You
Nice recovery! Glad to see I'm not the only one that has those sort of problems. Great Job.
Thank You Mark

Thank You Kris
Your persistence paid off. It’s absolutely beautiful
Thank You Laura
This is absolutely stunning work 😍 my heart broke when it kept snapping but bless you for persevering ❤️
Thank you so much!!
🤣 I loved your responses to the stem repeatedly breaking. Doug my friend you just seem to know how to turn things from bad into "hey look it didnt turn out so bad after all". I actually burst out laughing to your response after the like 4th break. well done.
Thank You Jeremy, whatcha gonna do but keep going, no reason to get made at it
Love your work and patience
Thank you!
so glad you persevered Doug, goblet is sooooo coooooooool well done mate.
Thank you Ray
I love this goblet only suggestion is that you recast it in similar mold using clear resin and polish it up and clean out cup, Then It be so cool and people will wonder how you did it!!! A goblet in a tumbler!
Great idea!Thank You Pixie
You are a saint.. I'd have thrown it across the room after 3rd break. Thanks for being stubborn! Beautiful goblet..worth the wait.
Thank you Kathi, Thanks for watching!
Well done for keep going it was worth it beautiful job. Top marks for perseverance.
Thank you!
Great perseverance, Doug! That looked intense, but the finished goblet is really beautiful! 👍👍
Thank You David, it wasn't as bad as it looked
Greetings Doug, regardless of the breakage's that is awesome. Love the planets well done you, keep smiling.
Thank you Peter
Really loved the colors on this one. Great job!
Thank you so much!
I really like the way that turned out even after all the stem breakages. I love the planets you got in there. It looks fantastic!
Awesome, thank you Lee!
Doug you did win and didnt allow the breaks to dampen your goal. Great goblet and I hear a good drink in order in the goblet to show who boss.
Thank You Steve
That’s a beautiful goblet Doug, lovely colours and pattern on the wood. I’m sure many people would have given up and put it the bin when it kept breaking but you have so much patience and skills to make something beautiful from what appears to be a disaster. I can see some lovely projects in the future from those resin balls you made. I always look forward to seeing your videos every Friday. You are very talented and you are such a lovely man, and you’re an inspiration to how people should be and what can be achieved
Thank You Steve
Very sweet! I love your persistence Doug. Cheers, Paige C.
Thank you Thank you Paige

Absolutely awesome! Keep up these great videos.
Thank You Jess
Love the planets and the space pour. Sad it broke, but you saved it. I still think it's great!
Thank you Jen,
Well, now you know what to do for the next one's! Lol! Just kidding! 😆 🥰 I just Love the whole thing! It is Gorgeous! There colors and the planets in contrast, just pop! Can see Capt. Kirk and crew drinking out of those on the SS Enterprise! Hope you and Mrs. have a great week ahead! Stay Safe.... Stay Well and God Bless!
Yes! Thank you Georgia,
Very nice goblet, thumbs up.
The number of times this foot's broken, I would have freaked out.
Thanks to your videos, I also put on a little lathe and I'm practicing now.
At the moment I am turning Meranti pallet blocks into tealight holders and give them away in the family.
Thanks a lot for the interesting videos and the inspiration.
Greeting Stephan
Thank You Stephan
Fantastic piece doug....you really didn't give up !! Wow 👏 😮
Thank You Clive
Great recovery you did what you had to do to get her done. Great job
Thank You Robert
Excellent job, it would never have been finished if I was doing it
Thank You Dominic, oh come one you could do it
Oh I’m so sorry that happened! Way to not give up on it! Still quite mesmerizing and a beautiful piece.
Thank you so much Katie!
Lovely piece (in the end) great perseverance.
Thank you very much Graham!
Did I hear you say "Sunny beach"? Good. This was the perfect time for a ripe epithet.
I am impressed and how you stayed positive despite numerous setbacks. For a first effort, it is outstanding. Keep going!
Thank You Lucy, UMMM ERRR I can't remember if I said bad words or not ! I pushed my luck way to far with this project !
Very, very, very good, very crazy, incrible, Congratulations for the genius
Thank you very much Marcio!
Great persistence, Doug! I once made a "Harry Potter" wizard wand for my daughter with maple and walnut. The joint between the walnut and the maple just kept breaking. Eventually, I carefully drilled a hole straight down into each piece, then turned a maple "dowel" that would fit it, then glued it together with the dowel. Big improvement in strength.
Your goblet sure did come out beautiful. (everyone attends the University of Adversity. ha ha!)
Thank You. yeah it finally broke for the last time, I have not fixed it as of yet
As always fantastic pieces
Thank You Edelicio
Beautiful job. Sometimes unexpected things happen, but you handled it very well!
Thank You Danny
You never gave up and it turned out amazing.
Thank You Michael
I like the planet idea. It's good to learn, and I guess you did. It looks cool!
Thank you Diedre
I love watching your videos your very creative and a positive impact on American socail media
. God bless dont stop
Thank You Thank You Brandon
I was rootin’ for you! Man! That had to have been frustrating. G’job sticking with it! Next time, cushion your shop with lots & lots of bubble wrap🤣 And marshmallows😜
Very cool way to stay with it and get it done
Thank You Phillip
lovely finished goblet, the planets look great like that!!
Thank you!
Looks good. I had a feeling it was going to break. You never give up an it definitely can out beautiful ✌💨💨
Thank You Larry
Love it! And I really like the honesty of your work it’s awesome.
Thank You Mikk Thank you so much!
You are very cool under pressure! The goblet is out of this world!😁 Great job.
Thank You Ellis
Doug -- your perserveance is incredible! The outcome is awesome! You actually taught me a lot in managing my temperament. Woodturning for me is a hobby, so no sense frustrating myself. !!! I guess the mindset skill for me to learn is to calm down and persevere. Thanks for sharing. Dennis
Thank You Dennis... Laugh at yourself and keep going, that works the best for me !
it looks great hun you did an amazing job even if it did break you can 't see it at all, love your work ty ... Anna
Thanks again Anna
Love it - well done
Thank You Jude, Glad you enjoyed it
Who else is was watching waiting for the moment it broke?
Thank You
I know I was. You could see that goblet just wobbling as the stem got skinnier.
@@PohlBarnProductions Maybe it's just the engineer in me but after the first break - saw it wobbling and hoped not but it did, and then again, and again, thats when I mostly stopped breathing altogether - I was thinking after you pull the blank from the mold why not find the center and drill it out and sleeve in a thin steel/metal rod from the base to the bottom of the cup part and glue it with resin or araldite for a bit of stability? You wouldn't see it once the turnings done but it would help strengthen up the weak bits. I don't turn, but the engineer in me immediately jumped to that solution. Would it work maybe?
@@PohlBarnProductions oh yeah, it was beautiful, forgot to add - maybe unnecessarily lol Absolutely stunning!
You got it man!! You did it brother! I was rooting for you the whole way!! Awesome goblet Doug!👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank You Thank You Bruce
You have a great personality and it shows in your art.
Thank You Tammy
It's a stunning goblet .Mars ,Saturn or Jupiter.Dummy "ME" When you were holding it closer to the camera I automatically held my phone close to my desk lamp ,as "if" I could see light through it 🤣🤣🤣I did ,I did .The way you hold glass up to light .I'm grateful you did not give up on this piece because it truly is a be as beauty. Thank you ,I know this makes it all worth while 👍😁🤜💥🤛
there were 3 planets, Mars, Jupiter and Mercury was in there also, it's funny you did that, Thanks for sharing it gave me a good giggle,
Still turned out really cool! Love the planets!,
Thank You Christy
That goblet Doug, is planetarily beautiful.. seen the neck wabbling a lot before it broke.
Thank You Skip, yeah you can pick it up better when it's sped up on film
Very nice. Like your planets. Good job!
Thank you very much!
Even tho you broke it, and broke it, and broke it and broke it it still turned out incredible. It's an awesome goblet to be proud of. The planets were a fantastic add and the coloring was purfect. I need to get some pigments like that but it's way too hot here in the California desert to do anything with resin now. Hell it's to flipping hot in my wood shop lately to do any thing, I have so many things I want to turn but this heat spell needs to end.
I can't tell you how bad I felt every time it broke but you saved it which is very inspiring. Well done again Doug you are definitely inspiring and a major help for new Turner's around the TH-cam world. Thank you very much for showing the mistakes instead of deleting them it helps us so much. Definitely a win.
I don't think I have any finger nails left after the breaks 🤣
Thank You Tom, I have enough fingernails for all of us ! LOL
