    You really spoke to me when you were talking about your 44 years of life. I am virtually having the same experience. All of what you said in that statement really "hit the nail on the head " in my perverbial journey of life. You kind sir are a very thoughtful inspiring individual.

      Your words are too kind. Birthdays are always a great time to do some personal inventory, I think that time of year is more effective than new years personally. Thanks for watching!

      Same here, just turned 50, High School Scholar Athlete, Penn State Grad (BS in Earth Sciences), Turned Environmental Lab Tech and Paleontology curatorial assistant, into a large format printing tech and QA manager, turned commercial/residential carpenter and now woodworker also. Your path is never paved the way you think it will be.

    I enjoy your content and sense of humor! I just turned 50 and understand your Journey through life. High School Scholar Athlete, Penn State Grad (BS in Earth Sciences), Turned Environmental Lab Tech and Paleontology curatorial assistant, into a large format printing tech and QA manager, turned commercial/residential carpenter and now woodworker also. Thanks so much! I appreciate your viewership. Sounds like you have had quite the path in life. There's still a lot of life left to live and who knows what is in store for us both. Cheers my friend!

    Deep thoughts on an early Sunday morning (oh my!) Rambling down the hill towards 55 myself and renovating my first house so feeling a little behind the 8 ball. Appreciate hearing the inner monologue as I think we are on similar paths...

      Sometimes doing a personal inventory helps. I recommend it. At 44, 55 doesn't seem that far away. Good luck on your house reno! and thanks for watching!

    2x3's have been used a long time for stretchers on fencing to attach the pickets to. You're probably right about the new interest in using them for other things due to the cost. Also usually cabinets are screwed together instead of using glue to be able to remove them easier. Great series, looking forward to seeing the rest. As for turning 44, I remember that era of my life being one of the best, but that was 24 years ago, so who knows if it's true or not. - Chris

      You’re right about the glue, in fact when I do the other side I’m planning on glue less cabinets just to show another way of doing things. Thanks so much for watching! Don’t go anywhere, I have 24 years and then we’ll be tied.

    Loved this video. I like when you talk about why you do woodworking, and what excites you about it. The next project is always the most exciting. It’s sometimes a curse 😂. On average I think I’m building 5 projects in my head on any given day. If only there were 3 of me….
    Also, I like how you show the tight fit in the closet and how you fixed it with the belt sander. Damn crooked walls….such a common issue I’m SURE some
    DIYers out there will run into, and panic.
    Great project….Good on you dad, I’m sure they love it!!

      Thanks! I’m working on the other side of the closet right now and ran into the same problem. Spoiler alert: I destroyed some drywall this time…much easier that way.

    Dude. This was just great. I was skeptical about whether I should dedicate the 30 minutes I had (cause I really need to work on other stuff) but man am I glad I did. So many relatable moments shared. Also learned we share a birthday month! Woo woo! Shine bright like a diamond baebay!

    16:51 On the Stud issue you should look into getting a Walabot, I have one and love it. It attaches to your phone and when you run it on a wall it will show you what is inside the wall. Its like X-ray vision for your walls. I had to get it when hanging a TV after using a normal stud finder and ended up with 10 drill holes that never hit a stud.

    • @DudeSawdust
      @DudeSawdust  ปีที่แล้ว

      The walabot is an amazing tool that I have considered in the past. The price tag is a bit steep but I'll probably add it to my wishlist. I just spent a bunch of money on my new Jet Jointer last week so I have to start saving my pennies again.

    • @michaelamos75
      @michaelamos75 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, the next things on my list are I a Jointer and a Planner. Right now, I'm having to stick to a jointing table saw jig I made and an electric hand planner that I attached to extruded aluminum and casters to assure it is level.
      It's amazing what you can build when you can't afford.

    Fantastic job - especially the energetic painting montage by Mrs Sawdust! To feel less claustrophobic, could you consider re-hanging the door to open outwards or even go with a barn door instead?

      Thanks so much! Actually the Mrs and I have discussed this. We are leaning towards just hanging some curtains. But ultimately it will be up to our daughter. Conversation pending 👍. Results to be featured in the next video.

    Based on your Steve Ramsey comment being 3 hrs N. of you, sounds like you're close to my neck of the woods - Monterey Bay area? If so, either way, nice to another have a content creator close by as there's another about 30 min from me as well 💪.... looking forward to more future content.

      Thanks! Actually I am in the Fresno/Madera area. Interesting you should mention Monterey. I was there Thursday and Friday. The wife and I took a much needed 2 day vacation. We ate at some nice restaurants (groto and Rosines), saw a couple of movies at the Monterey 13, visited 17 mile drive, and hiked some trails down in Big Sur. We had such a great time. I appreciate your support and look forward to putting out much more content 👍👍👍

    8:18 I took some furniture I was going to throw away and decided to either tear them down for wood or use them as an outfeed table. The nightstand that I spent $300 at Ashley furniture 17 years ago. I was heavy and at the time seemed really nice. Come to find out it was all MDF and veneer. So take 2, a nightstand made in the 80s. Hardwood supports and plywood with a veneer. Much better made joinery.
    The best example of this are my grandfather's desk and my father's desk. During a large move both got damaged. My father's desk will require alot of work, while my grandfather's will just require a little glue and pushing the dovetails back together, plus every bit of it is solid mahogany. It from the late 1800's when they knew how to build things.

    • @DudeSawdust
      @DudeSawdust  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like furniture from the good ol' days! Our current kitchen table: when I bought it 3 years ago the sales lady told me it was made of solid wood. When I asked her what that meant she had a blank stare. Solid wood is a red flag for not hardwood. But if it was hardwood then it would definitely be a lot more expensive...in that case I'll be making it myself.

    • @DudeSawdust
      @DudeSawdust  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. Come on by the house when I shim the other side of the closet and you'll know. Actually it's important because it help level everything, keeps the boxes from moving around, lines up all the seams, stabilizes it.
