I'm a woodworker, therefore I am.
I Built This For My XXL Cat with 30 TOES!!!
Meet Millie Molly Maine Coon! This project turned out killer! But it wasn't without trial and misfortune. This is an adventure you won't want to miss. I build a hexagon cat bed that is just one part of a future video project that will be integrated into a huuuuge Cat Condo.

@@manssearch just feels right to push.
What did you end up with a short/thin one at the top? Why was the thin one not put at the bottom where the crown molding could have covered it?
Did you guys fill in the nail holes with spackle or did you leave nails exposed? I was gonna shoot a shorter 18ga nail thru the tongue to hide it, then shoot longer nail 15ga through bottom of the board. This was a good video thanks! 👍
I appreciate the tips. I still think I will use real wood for my cabin.

My wife would get in trouble for using MY irons! I’m the domestic one in my marriage. 😂🤷🏽♂️
Flippin’ the script!
I just bought it as part of a set and that bevel lever gave me so much trouble. At first it was tighten too much so I could move the lever. I entightened it a little to only realize that every time I would move it, the screw under would come lose. I found the trick though. You need to also screw the other screws around and it stays in place. There is a sweet spot to find. For such brand, they should have worked on a better system...
I agree, I hate it when adjustments don't click and snap into place. Tightening anything allows for quick wear, tear, and loosening.
You need box extensions by code I believe.
I bought this model sander from Amazon for like $55 last year and absolutely love it. For sanding I use 3M 710W and 775L paper in various grits, and have never had a problem with stock removal. I would say getting a couple of backup pads or pad savers is a smart investment, they have the same size/hole pattern pads for like 2 for $6, and they work wonders for preserving your actual sanding pad. Im on my 2nd pad since i bought it, but now use a pad saver everytime i touch the sander, so I dont anticipate having to change this pad again for years. The last couple months I've used it more for paint correction / detailing my car, using Meguiars Ultimate Compoud with a medium foam buffing pad on speed 5 does amazing work on any scratches/scuffs/imperfections. Follow up with 210 polish / sealant / wax and the car looks as good as any car I've ever seen before. Love this sander.
Blending the electric looks great... probably too much work for me
Thanks! Yes, not everyone is up for going beyond just functionality. Since this is on camera, it's sort of fun to make it just a little better. I appreciate you watching!
What a waste of money, never buy this saw!! Dust extraction as on option, it should be included. Nobody wants to clean up after cutting specially with the blowing feature. Dust every ware, it wil take you more time.
I am doing my first shiplap install at my home. We are tearing out old paneling beforehand. They are internal walls save for one. I'm going to redo the insulation on that one and add sound deadening in the other two. Do I need to do drywall first, or can I install the shiplap directly to the studs? Since one wall is exterior, I'm going to use wood instead of MDF.
This is a great question. Personally I prefer the wall drywalled first. But that is not mandatory at all.
I have options 1 - 6, but my con is that the lower speeds do what they are supposed to do, run slower. This guy is funny lol.
On your outlets. Use a beauty ring. Shiplaps 3/4 so install a 3/4 beauty ring
I know why sheetrock is staggered but why shiplap.
MDF swells in basements. Use pvc.
Never would have thought about that. There are very few basements where I live. Great tip
Nobody ever thinks about the Matabo HPT C12RSH3 miter saw. It slides in the front so you can seat it close to the wall and it is cheaper than most of the front sliding saws. It goes on sale quite often. I got mine for $350, but I’ve seen it as low as $250 before. The new version even has a shadow line instead of the laser I have.
This is a great tip. I’m reading this as I sit and stare at my new Makita Miter saw still in the box. And you’re right. I never considered that saw🤔🤔🤔👍
@@DudeSawdust you can always go to Lowe’s and buy a Matabo, try them both out and just keep the one you like better and return the other. Just a thought.

@@DudeSawdust can't wait to see it
First time to see your videos. Well done! I love that you share your mistakes and how you overcame them. It gives me some hope that it’s okay to make some mistakes and not loose expensive wood. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@reggiek6730 It's sometimes hard to show the mistakes because it involves being vulnerable but I think it helps in the way you explained. If I showed all of my mistakes the video would be an hour long so I try to show the most important ones. Thanks for watching!
Great build, and Millie is adorable! First time watcher, and I enjoyed your style and the honesty about your mistakes. Subscribed! One thing that made this particularly amusing for me is the fact that your shop is essentially the opposite of mine, gear-wise. I have a monster of a 3HP cabinet saw that's way too much saw for my skills and needs, but no bandsaw and a stupid benchtop jointer that looks like a toy. You, on the other hand, have a simple jobsite saw but one massive beast of a bandsaw and a huge jointer. I'm curious and still trying to figure out the directions in which I'll develop my shop, so if you don't mind me asking: why did you decide to build your shop that way? Do you not miss having a larger, more powerful table saw with a cast iron top? Thanks!
Thanks so much for subscribing and watching. You bring up an interesting topic and something I have obviously thought a lot about over the years. Well over 90% of everything in my shop has been completely funded by the money I make through my TH-cam channel. One of the first 3 tools I brought was a table saw, then I started the channel. I really really want a saw like yours, but instead of upgrading I decided to buy what I don't have yet. As I earn more money, I will reinvest into tools. 99% of all of my TH-cam income goes back into tools and maintaining the channel. So the more my channel grows, the better my shop will become. Not having a big table saw doesn't prevent me from building anything, it would just be better. Not having a bandsaw and jointer prevent me building certain things (yes there are work arounds). So that big saw is definitely in my future...good things comes to those (me) who wait!
@@DudeSawdust Absolutely! That's a wise way to go about building your shop, I think. I only have that huge saw because I found it second hand for a once in a lifetime kind of price, so I bought it way before it made sense for me to actually have it ahaha. I had a Dewalt just like yours and it was by far the #1 most used tool in my shop, so I jumped at the opportunity to upgrade! And you're totally right about the bandsaw being kind of a must-have for lots of projects. I'm finding myself thinking of more and more stuff I want to make which kind of demand one, so it's the next tool I'll get. I can only afford a small one right now, but since I've never even had one, it makes sense to start small, I guess. Soon enough I'll also start my own channel, and I'll keep your approach in mind! Thanks for your response :)
@@lgconf having a TH-cam channel comes with lots of highs and lows. Lots of views and new tools are definitely the highs. I hope you find much success with your channel. I definitely splurge by getting more bandsaw then I probably needed but it was treat myself moment for sure. I actually want to get another bandsaw that is smaller with a thinner blade. That way I don’t have to change the resaw blade. I have another plan for extra routers with a similar idea. Those are luxuries. But one tool at a time and also it depends on the project. New Projects bring in new tools.
@@DudeSawdustDon't forget to watch for ads for used tools in good shape! My husband got a jointer and a beefy table saw in great shape for a great price!
@@morticiaaddams7866 There are a lot of great used tools out there. I'm the worst when it comes to looking for them. Half the hobby is woodworking, the other half is outfitting the shop!
really nice!
Thanks! The condo is going to be even better!
I had a similar problem. The way i ended up fixing the problem was by using a metal trash can and lid.
That's a great idea, then the can wouldn't flex and create air gaps. Thanks for the idea. I didn't even think of that!
@DudeSawdust I also cut a square piece of of the trash can. And screwed and siliconed in a piece of plexiglass. To create a viewing window so I know when the trash can is getting full.
Make sure to wait to get your kitty fixed. Doing early can stunt their growth. We got a maine coon from someone my wife knew and they got him fixed to early and declawed his front paws which was a total mess up. Stunted his growth and gave him paw problems. Still cant believe a vet would even declaw a cat.... 😪
Absolutely beautiful piece! Thanks for keeping the mishaps in so we can all learn from them. The one thing I’d change is I’d sew my own organic pillow with a non-toxic filling (or if I didn’t sew, I’d commission one). That gorilla glue is probably really toxic.
Thanks! If I kept every mistake the video would be an hour long but I try to highlight the important ones. You know you bring up an interesting idea that I sort of thought about. I mean the cat’s nose is a lot stronger than mine so I hope there isn’t a scent that turns her off. Hopefully she can plug her nose with her thumbs if it gets bad.
@@DudeSawdust I make mistakes too. It’s funny, but I had to go out and buy a plug bit the other day to bore out a threaded insert and then I proceeded to fill it with an oak dowel /smh. Now I have to drill through a hard wood lol. It always makes me feel better to see others aren’t perfect either. As far as the glue, I’d just be concerned with off gassing for your whole household and the cat. Cats also lick everything so if some of that glue gets on his or her fur, it could spell disaster.
@@DudeSawdustOnce it's fully cured, the glue shouldn't be a problem.
Beautiful project ! 👏👏
Thanks! I can't wait to have the whole condo done. I think it will look sweet!
What do you use for the side trim?
I usually use MDF about 2-3 inches wide
Great video thanks for sharing, I was faced with the same problem on the door location and this video really helped me out.
I'm glad I could help. Thanks so much for watching
Why is router table so high up? Filming or no low bench/table/cart to set the router table on? Seemed like large factor. Enjoyed so much! Bingeing some of your old videos again.
Great question. I’ve put off any router station because I’ve wanted to do a video on the build. The plan is to figure something out this year. I just put it on top of my work bench for the meantime. Thanks for watching some of my old videos. Hopefully you find a gem or two.
Love the use of walnut & maple. It looks great, and I look forward to the full kitty kondo. (BTW, my cat is happy with a bed in a cardboard box under the piano. 🙂)
Thanks! I’m still trying to get her to enjoy her new bed. So far I’m not sure. But once the whole kondo is built I think she will love playing on it. I certainly would if I was a cat. I 3D modeled a pretty sweet design. Just hope my engineering is solid.

yes, thats what my wife says@@morticiaaddams7866
Yeah that fabric bed turned out great! I’ll definitely be looking into that method of doing it! Great video!
Thanks! I'm no upholstery pro but it seems like a great idea.
Nice man. Gotta let that router eat a little less material next time. How were your shorts after that incident?
Man! it was the worst!. Soiled front and back. Still have to repair the hole in the dry wall, hand cast comes of in 6 weeks.
Crazy cat guy here! Grew up with Persians and have had 3 Maine Coons over the years (my last passed from diabetes a few years ago). Will definitely get another one sooner than later though. They are such a joy!
I'm new to the Maine Coon Lifestyle. So far its been great. My wife came home with this cat and never told me what she was doing. It was a "surprise" for me...AKA not me but her. Thanks so much for watching!
@DudeSawdust VERY food motivated, crazy kitten stage lasts longer due to them being slow-growing, (3-4 years until full size) and have the annoying habit of getting real smart just when you don't want them too! Be sure to keep feeding high protien food (dry and wet) to feel their growth and general health. Sass and Squatch get kibble that's 40 percent protien. Higher protien kibble is just too expensive! Ours aren't as highly bred as Millie, but are wonderful just the same!
yes, my wife has been on top of the food thing, just like you said. She id the cat whisperer of the home, I'm more of the just build stuff person...3-4 yeas? I did not know that, very interesting@@morticiaaddams7866
I don't get it, when you want to use them to hold a piece you're gluing up, do you lift one end of the pole and then pull off a few clamps or do you carry the whole pole over to the table? Is it easier to put them all away this way, just slide them back on? I like the French sloped cleat wall, I built a slat wall many years ago with my dad. He was an old woodworker that would give me advice like "don't do it this way in your shop". Kind of hinting, buy the right tool for the job.
It's not frequent to have to use a lot of the clamps at once but there are times that is needed. I only have so much work space and my work bench is so close to where I store them. I usually just unclamp what I need from the pole but for big jobs I will transport the whole pole to the workbench. I'm a big fan of the french cleat wall. I like open spaces and having everything on or near the wall makes plenty of room for large projects and temporally storing materials.
This model can work with 2ah battery? I've the same model with 2ah battery and not working 😢, just turn on for a few seconds and turn of againg!
I haven’t done any research with batteries. But I hope you find one that works.
DRAMA......................what an opening, NOT
It's hard to take you seriously with a Rioby in your hand.😂
I sympathize with your comment...but they actually make a really good brad nailer!

nice!
Dude great teamwork. Question it appears that you have many gallons of paint or food which you did not mention. Talk to me
That's a good question. I have a lot of food storage that we keep on hand as a security in case of disaster, hard times, etc. I wouldn't call myself a "prepper", but to some I am. It's best to keep that stuff in the house where it will last longer but my wife and I are at odds on that topic. On top of the food storage we keep all of our well labeled paint cans: just in case we need to touch up something in the house or from any previous projects.
I used my wife’s fabric cutter on edge banding. It didn’t hurt too much when she found out.
Strong move indeed! This little fabric cutter has come in handy quite often. I even used it to cut fabric of all things, yesterday!
$55 for the little black&decker guide..that isnt even black & decker....no thanks ffs.
When I first made this video black and decker made the guide. It’s currently not available. The price used to be a lot cheaper.
@@DudeSawdust I see, the price was a bit of a shock lol
thank you
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
