Urian Hackney is quickly becoming one of my favorite drummers. That dude is a beast! There's a lot going on and he still pushes the drums to a prominent position. Impressive.
Props to the sound engineering team for this recording. The overall vibe is much more raw and organic than in the album, but cleaner sounding as well, somehow.

That's because every single instrument and vocal channel hasn't been run through fifteen different custom made Kurt Ballou distortion pedals I suspect.
These dudes also go to great lengths to conceal their true identity. Hiring actors to play the instruments etc… rumor has it that the armed are made up of mainly members of converge

I'm sure there are a slew of other connections, but The Armed are definitely not comprised of mainly Converge members. Deeply connected to the group, sure. But BK playing drums is the only actual performative connection. Maybe other members tracked a few parts here and there too, but that's about it.
This is an auditory tornado. When it first approached it was wild and overwhelming, but somehow over time I found myself in the eye of the storm - a tranquil place where I got lost in the music and felt really peaceful being encapsulated by that wall of noise raging around me.
Troy kinda looks like they asked their dad to play with them, but boy does he nail those guitar parts. Edit: and yes, in my mind they all have one dad.

It's kind of hard to single out his performance because of the 18 other guitarist, but as an armed fan I can hear his contributions to the songs and they are wonderful. He's such a cool guy
Man the sound is so damn good, give the audio engineer a high five, awesome how you guys manage to sound just like in the album, but different at the same time.

The moment in Bad Selection when the vocalist picks up the PA speaker and is carrying it around on his head, presumably so that it would feedback like crazy with the mic pointed straight at it just inches away, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. I am filled with joy every time I see it and for a moment it does feel like everybody knows that I am great.
Queens of the Stone Age just announced a new tour today and this band is opening up for the Michigan show. I haven't heard of them before but I dig their sound and am excited to check them out live!

Some of them are legit musicians, lead vocalist for example, but some are not. I've read some articles, this band is a deceit, nobody knows their actual members. Some parts were produced and maybe even played by different people. This exact video isn't live, it's made to look so.

This sounds so much better than the album! It makes me sad as the album is hard to listen sometimes and here all the sounds are tangible. Then there’s the fantastic camerawork throughout the performance, both in terms of shooting and editing. I want more of this!

I think it was the point of the production on Ultrapop to be almost completely impenetrable. I do love this live rendering because it clarifies the compositions, but the album benefits from shrouding the catchiness in sheets of noise imo. Without the Ultra it’d be all Pop and then we’d never have to earn it, and we always care more about the things we earn.
I got to see The Armed open for QOTSA in August 2023 and it was really fascinating because they brought this absolutely devastating energy to their performances and were trying to party as hard as possible but almost no one showed for the openers and the people who did didn't seem to care much about The Armed. It was a real shame because there was a unique earnestness to their performance that you don't often see. I've really come to love their aesthetics and style. Very anarchic but carefully harnessed and orchestrated.
seeing and hearing "an iteration" live, my favorite song from ultrapop, made me smile so much, that song means everything to me ever since i've discovered it and it's just as gorgeous live
I would love to hear an iteration of An Iteration where there's another minute of the song playing that chorus at a slower bpm at the end. You can almost hear it already especially with the female vocal at the end. TH-cam algorithm does it again. This band idea is awesome.

I saw this video first and checked out the album after. Holy shit that has to be one of the worst mixed, compressed albums I’ve heard in a long time. Such a waste because these guys kick ass!
It took me a couple weeks to get into the album after hearing this. I love the album now and it has to be played loud or you miss out on the few details you get with how compressed it is. The compression really is a shame because I want to recommend it to people so badly. I've basically just sent people this every time lul
Nah man, nowhere else will you be able to bathe in such sweet, sweet noise! It's as much a part of the art as the (tighter sounding) live performance/recording. I'm sure if they could replicate the sea of tracks that their records are, they'd probably be bringing as many people on stage as possible, but between the two (live and album) you get the full "scoop."
Watching this performance, I need to give the record another listen through. Phenomenal. Major props to the sound engineer. There is so much going on and it all perfectly represented in the mix.
