Apple Maps is better on the iPhone and Apple CarPlay. I actually preferred Google Maps over Waze when I had an Android phone.

Mapping software and route planning was much better when Delorme and Microsoft made their suites back in mid '90s to mid '00s. You were able to customize your routes and navigate using a connected GPS. Now the hardware is much better, of course, with the gps built into your phone, but the routes are less customizable.

Apple Maps does tell you about cops, though. You can report and confirm their location.

You can report “speed checks” on Apple Maps now.

I alternate between Waze and Magic Earth on my iPad and iPhone in Australia. Magic Earth has the advantage of downloadable off-line maps.
Waze and Magic Earth will show your actual speed, Apple Maps and Google Maps will not, with the exception of Google Maps on Android.

Definitely Waze in Europe. Nobody ever did the community features like Waze.

Google Maps: Everywhere else.

Yandex Navigator has one big drawback, after using Yandex Navigator, Google Maps feels like a complete suck from fifteen years ago

I don't care about aesthetics. I don't care about the ads.
Waze warns you about police. That's it. That's that makes Waze the winner.
I don't even understand how there is a question. Are there not police where you are?

I would rather have fully functional customizable routes along with fast rerouting with updated road conditions due to road work/construction, accidents, etc. ,than just a warning about police.

(Also, I'm Team Waze because it warns about speedtraps. That's it. That's the killer app. No speedtraps, no care. It's indispensable in rural areas for this reason in a way other map apps can't match.)

It depends on the design language Apple uses.

@@bob_._. I'm referring more to the fact that as Apple users they are most likely to prefer Apple Maps. Waze was only mentioned to oppose the Apple Maps suggestion. Android users are more likely going to suggest Google Maps which has all the same features of Waze without the cartoon look.

Do smartphones have Galileo antennas? No. So no matter how good the software, they are inferior to dedicated navigation devices that can receive Galileo and GPS signals. Galileo is EU funded, but it is globally available Accuracy is less than 1 metre.

Nah, Waze. Traffic routing is the best. Google is second. Here maps, THEN Apple maps.

Waze tries too hard imho. Even if I have “avoid busy intersections” turned off, it’ll still route me through residential neighborhoods to get me places. Sadly, the side roads are where most of the potholes are here so I just suck it up and stick to the main roads.

Waze is much better. Who cares what the UI looks like, Waze has much better functionality, routing you around traffic issues in real time, and warning you of upcoming problems through crowdsourcing.
