Surprising how very few people actually understand the purpose of the kata. This guy knows the purpose of each and every movement and why it's used. Nice to see it being explained. A lot of Dojos/Dojangs (in TKD) just go through the motions of the kata to get you to progress to the next belt, but don't ever explain the reasons. It's easy to think all this movement is just fluff, but it's there for a reason.
It's worse than that. Bunkai is the search for what can be done, not what must be done. Additionally, kusho reveals where the body can be hurt, what is best used to inflict injury and what the predictable reaction may be.
@@johnbaddoghellno7751 we explain bunkai as soon as we were taught the katas in white belts. By the time you learn the bunkai, the kata by itself is just a muscle memory of a dance and not practising it with the application in mind.
This channel and the training reignited my love for Karate . The piece about win or lose priceless. I practice JKA since 1977 5years old stopped because of injury ,what a mistake never stop moving people I almost never came back. Watch this space
Hello sensei I am Jordan Barnwell from sensei Yani's goju-ryo karate dojo in George, South Africa and I am currently 2nd-kyu. This Chanel is a very big help for me to go more indepth with what sensei Yani has already taught me. Domo arigato sensei I can't wait to train with you in Okinawa one day
Thank you so much for all the inspiration and knowledge/insight you give us with your Karate Journey! This is again a true master you guys found. Dank je wel uit Amsterdam.
Your're not the only one. I would say maybe 5% of sensei in the west actually teach legitimate karate. If you want to learn the real thing it's almost required to go to Japan.
@Street Deacon I used to think living in the west was great, but are mcdojo's really that much of a widespread there? Plus I think that having a sensei teach you hands on is the best way to learn a martial art.
if you want to have a motivating experience try punching while showering and stop your fist close to the curtain the water wil splash against it with a loud sound :D also gives you an idea which forces our bodies have to resist while excercising like this other than that always great to see knowledge being past down! his movement is fluid and powerfull rare to see
Imagine if this Sensei would allow training with an expert functional sports trainer like the caliber of those used by the NFL? Karate will only continue to improve!

The explaining the function of the moves in kata really only comes after black belt.

When i see videos like this i realize i wasted a lot of time and money with karate instructors that only knew kindergarten school karate.

I felt the same thing when I transitioned from my local Ashihara dojo to Goju-ryu. Felt like I went from kindergarten to university.
White belt are still dangerous I am afraid
I hear you!
kata moves only make sense when explained by somebody who know how to use it. too bad that not many instructors do.
That is why that knowledge was restricted to a select few. The problem arose because of wannabe Grandmasters showing off they have the secret moves.
if you want to have a motivating experience try punching while showering and stop your fist close to the curtain the water wil splash against it with a loud sound :D also gives you an idea which forces our bodies have to resist while excercising like this

Watch again fella
Looking for Goju Ryu in Maryland.
Lo que me llama la atención es que las formas que se practican, en la práctica real no se aplican. Más se parece a una lucha con poca técnica.
