    7:20 "Martial arts have to be for the training of your own spirit, to not escape from the fear. You win or lose. It really doesn't matter, just one of you lose your life. One of you will be killed and that's it."

    Surprising how very few people actually understand the purpose of the kata. This guy knows the purpose of each and every movement and why it's used. Nice to see it being explained. A lot of Dojos/Dojangs (in TKD) just go through the motions of the kata to get you to progress to the next belt, but don't ever explain the reasons. It's easy to think all this movement is just fluff, but it's there for a reason.

      The explaining the function of the moves in kata really only comes after black belt.

      It's worse than that. Bunkai is the search for what can be done, not what must be done. Additionally, kusho reveals where the body can be hurt, what is best used to inflict injury and what the predictable reaction may be.

    • @PhinTheShoto
      @PhinTheShoto ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnbaddoghellno7751 we explain bunkai as soon as we were taught the katas in white belts. By the time you learn the bunkai, the kata by itself is just a muscle memory of a dance and not practising it with the application in mind.

      Your're not the only one. I would say maybe 5% of sensei in the west actually teach legitimate karate. If you want to learn the real thing it's almost required to go to Japan.

    • @Sujiceel
      @Sujiceel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Street Deacon I used to think living in the west was great, but are mcdojo's really that much of a widespread there? Plus I think that having a sensei teach you hands on is the best way to learn a martial art.

    kata moves only make sense when explained by somebody who know how to use it. too bad that not many instructors do.

    • @raymondfrye5017
      @raymondfrye5017 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is why that knowledge was restricted to a select few. The problem arose because of wannabe Grandmasters showing off they have the secret moves.

    if you want to have a motivating experience try punching while showering and stop your fist close to the curtain the water wil splash against it with a loud sound :D also gives you an idea which forces our bodies have to resist while excercising like this
    other than that always great to see knowledge being past down! his movement is fluid and powerfull rare to see

    La base para practicar y practicar un arte Marcial es el miedo. Primero es el miedo a que te gane uno de la calle y cuando sos maestro, terror a que te gane otro maestro.
