I’m an alto female and when I first heard this song I was like there’s no way that I can sing this but I’ve always been told you never know unless you try. And I tried singing this and I was very surprised especially for a female like me. I’m not saying that females can’t say in this song I’m just saying it was a surprise for myself, me specifically, because every time I’ve sang a song I was off or couldn’t hit the notes, but now I can. This musical is one of my favorites, and I hope one day that my college can perform it or get the license for it cause I would love to be in this, even if I’m not the main character or in the background, I would not care I would just like to be in this show.
Coming from someone who has had the privilege of playing Quasimodo this song is one you need to relax into and work with to allow for the beauty of this piece to really come through
@@joshuanielson5682 yeah I can see that. But this song is so beautiful besides Heaven’s Light. Also, I’m 5 ‘1 so even if I tried out for Quasimodo, I highly doubt I would get the part. I would be lucky enough to be an understudy or something. But given the gymnastics background that I have, I am not a fear of heights and I also like climbing around it’s really fun.

These tracks are fantastic. I’ve been really looking for good karaoke tracks for songs like this, but I couldn’t find any good ones. These are fantastic and much appreciated. Keep up the good work!
In need of vocal advice: I am a tenor, however when I have to go for the higher notes in this song such as the "take all your lies and leave me alone" and "as if I were made of stone" sections, my voice tends to crack. Can anyone offer some tips to help with this problem? Be advised I'm not in puberty so no jokes please.
zeldaglitchgamer - Tighten your abs, only breathe from your diaphragm, and think up an over. That’s what my teacher taught me.
@@isaiahbaston thank you for the advice. I have also noticed that it seems that I instinctively switch into falsetto for "I" in the lyrics "as if I" even though Michael Arden is able to push it out. Is that a head and diaphragm mix note? Perhaps I am looking at it with the wrong approach. I have no formal vocal training.
@@zeldaglitchgamer He's belting and basically that means you push as much air out as you need to get the note and then you try to keep a consistent flow of air to sustain it as you need.
zeldaglitchgamer hi! I’m currently studying vocal technique so here’s some tips that can help you. what you can do is really engage your lats which keeps the diaphragm down. Tightening your abs gives false support and causes more constrain and increase possibility to damage so you want to avoid that thought. Put your hands right above your waist and cough. Feel how your lats expand. From there, try to keep your lats in that same position because that is how you will sustain your breath support. Every time you take a breath, fight the urge to exhale and keep your lats in that position. For the vowels like “Oh’ and “Ah” make sure your mouth is in a “bite’ form as if you were biting an apple. this increases the twang necessary to increase the volume and sustain the note safely and make sure the larynx goes up as it naturally does (twang is that buzzy feeling when you are talking in your throat when you talk and could be exaggerated by mimicking a baby cry, a cat meowing, or a plane falling. Use as much twang as needed). To practice, say the phrases as sentences. Say it as if you are calling someone from across a large room. With each time you shout it (with support), raise the pitch until you reach the desired note. Now the tricky part, is doing all of that at the same time ahhhh. But if practice these steps one by one and i know you can do it :) i hope this helps!
Edit: stuff like cracking, singing off key, and strain are 9/10 because of lack of breath support. The three principles of breath support are necessary twang, breath support, and avoiding the tightening of the lips and jaw. Master these and you’ll be good to go!
Alternatively to the above suggestions, try to sing it within your own ranges. Singing something naturally to yourself rather than trying to match someone else’s performance always has a more favorable result.

The original ending notes to this are wild and, to my knowledge, few actors who played Quasi but Drew Sarich, were able to achieve them, which is why the American version of the show features a lower octave for the finale, and it's honestly not as powerful. I only got to see Drew in Lestat the Musical, and he was sorely underutilized in a show that was campy and corny but also took itself too seriously

Can anyone give me advice? With songs like this and any other songs that require me to sing any louder than a whisper, i find that my voice is very weak and wobbly, it's very annoying :(

Hey! I'm also an alto girl. Honestly it just comes practice and getting more sure of your voice (but don't strain your voice), plus it can be harder since a lot of the time the more belting notes are higher
