  • Actor Brandon Lee may have had a short career as an actor in Hollywood but his breakthrough role as Eric Draven in the dark fantasy film The Crow made him into a legend. His starring role would sadly be his last because he was shot and killed as a result of negligence during filming.
The son of Bruce Lee was only 28 years old when the tragic accident took his life away. After his death, his performance as Eric Draven received high praise and the movie became a cult classic.
But what else is there to know about this actor that was taken away from us too soon? Here is the untold truth about Brandon Lee.

I went to the same college, I knew him and my best friend shared an apartment with him in Allston Massachusetts.
He had a full size poster of his father on the ceiling over his bed. He had photographs of celebrities who were famous before age 30 displayed around his room. He was in a hurry to "make it" as soon as possible because, as he often told me, he knew he would be dead before he turned 30. He was one of the most driven and intense individuals I've ever met.
He was indeed reckless, but thankfully talented enough that he will always be remembered.

"Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. And yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you cannot conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

    1) To save money, the film’s weapons safety expert was sent home prior to filming the scene.
    2) Actors using prop guns are never to aim the gun directly at the other actor but are instead taught to aim the gun to make it look as if they are aiming at said actor.
    3) To save money, the props expert emptied real bullets. Real bullets once opened can sometimes fragment within the gun chamber if improperly handled.

And this demon was coming after Brandon and Bruce Lee tried to protect Brandon and it looked like the demon was defeated. But years later Brandon dies at a younger age than his father. I believe that demon represents his family being cursed, and the demon walking towards Brandon represents Brandon eventually dying from murder. It's just weird that even the movie is called "The Crow" and one of the people involved claim the set was haunted.

With his good looks and pedigree, I just knew Brandon Lee was gonna be a HUGE star. The son of Bruce Lee and a pretty good actor and martial artist in his own right, it was only a matter of time before he became the next big thing. Sadly, just like his dad, he died before the release of the movie that was to be his breakthrough film. As someone who grew up watching his dad, I was heartbroken by Brandon's passing. It honestly pissed me off for a while. How could the Fates take Bruce and Brandon? It just didn't seem fair.

I think it was an incredible flick. But I think mostly because how it struck me and mayne hownit was based off the graphic novel and how well it was turned into a movie. Even my sons name is draven. Sont get me wrong I can see its not perfect. I wasnt a fan of a few parts. Even the judge being cut from the movie. In fact when you see the electrical tape around his hands was to tape up a wound the judge wouldn't let him self heal. Because he strayed from the path to help Sara when his only job was to seek revenge

They kinda did. The production crew decided to "save money" by making their own props. When they made dummie bullets they didn't set off the primers which have enough energy to put a bullet cap into the barrel of a gun. Then a blank round sends that jammed bullet at about 70% power which is more than lethal. He died of other peoples incompetence.

I used to make music videos, just for fun(I'd be hit with Copyright strikes like a mofo these days)… but I used footage from The Crow and paired it with Metallica's "Unforgiven", and it was a masterpiece. I no longer have the VHS tape it was on, so I'm going to attempt to recreate it, but obviously I won't be able to upload it to TH-cam. Still, I'm going to remake it. When I showed it to people(back in the late 90s/early 2000s), most people thought it was a European Import never shown in the US. Yeah, it was that good, and I'm very proud of it.
It was made as a tribute to Brandon Lee, as I love him in that movie, and the story worked very well with that music.

I spent a lot of time working on the backlot at Screen Gems doing grip and stunt crew jobs in the 90s (not on the Crow though). The first film after the accident on the backlot stage where he died was an industry for a Swedish company about mental health in the workplace. It was surreal, everything was painted up bright colors and we had picked up like 15 brightly colored Hyundai(s) to line the "street" but it was all on the opposite side of the backlot stage where his accident happened. Everyone spoke in hushed tones about it. It seemed like the darkness had overtaken that part of the lot. It's a strange place, that backlot. That's why most "city street" filming moved either to Southport or to downtown Wilmington. I never saw the final of the industry film. I can't imagine how it all translated.
