This was great. I especially like how you follow your explanations with real life demonstrations.

This is great. I am getting answers to questions I didn't even know I had!

    Dave,
Great video. I'm going to try listening for some of the beacons.

I have been trying to listen to the beacons. I began by reviewing the freqs on this page www.ncdxf.org/beacon/index.html#Schedule I tuned my radio to 14.100000, set it to CW-USB, and narrowed the filter to 150Hz. I have heard nothing. I've been trying to determine if it is propagation, or if my station has a setup issue. I have an FT-991 connected to a four band dipole. I have tried adjusting the width of the filter from 150 to 500 Hz. I have tried changing from CW-USB to CW-LSB, but to be honest, I'm not entirely clear what the difference there is. Based on www.hamqsl.com/solar101vhfpic.php, the 20m propagation should be "fair" right now, so I thought I'd at least be able to pickup New York, but I have not. I'm still learning all the features of my radio, and I have tried to adjust as few settings as possible. I am wondering if you have any suggestions that could help me determine if it is propagation, or my equipment? Note that I have been able to hear HF phone signals from as far away as Florida and Michigan, and I've had one HF QSO, though it wasn't very long DX, so I'm not sure; maybe my dipole isn't high enough in the air.

I also find the beacons hard to hear. It takes patience over an extended period. Congratulations on your first HF QSO--keep it up! The more you're on the air, the more you'll learn and enjoy. 73, Dave
